You are not the only one, no.
I don’t know this particular song or musical, but I can relate. Every time I hear or read the word “Ohio”, I burst into “Four dead in Ohio!”. Same with “Ontario”, where it’s “There is a town in North Ontario”. Yeah, I’m a Neil Young fan.
“Four Dead In Ohio” should be the official state license plate slogan instead of “Birthplace of Aviation”.
When I hear ‘Ohio’, I always think ‘Good morning!’ in Japanese (Ohayo).
A friend of mine, whose wife is Japanese told me that when he first introduced his wife to his father who had grown up without any real knowledge of the Japanese, his father wanted to at least make an effort to communicate with her. So, like you, he told his father that saying good morning was like the name of the state. The next morning, when his father when to greet her, he said to her, very kindly and sincerely, Idaho!

For those of us that don’t know Japanese, the state that sounds like ‘good morning’ is Ohio, not Idaho (I had to look that up).
Yes, I know, his father remember that his son had said it was like the name of a state, and that it was short, and that ended in O, he just go the state wrong.

And the capital city of Ohayo is Gozaimasu.
Ohio, go sigh miss!
(Almost, “go zigh moss” is closer but that doesn’t mean anything.)
It’s funny, for me it was the other way around. My mom and all of her family is from Ohio, and I used to visit there a lot as a kid. So when I studied Japanese in high school, every time we’d say “good morning” (which was frequent; it was a morning class for me for three years in a row) it made me think of the state.
Of course, in English the state that sounds like a greeting is Hawaii.
Oh, why did California, why did Californ’?
Why did California, was she all alone?
She called to say Hawaii, she called to say How are ya
She called to say how are ya, that’s why she did phone
I’m actually not familiar with this one, but I assume it’s about the Kent State massacre?
Yep, the song “Ohio”, written by Neil Young and recorded by CSN&Y within days of the Kent State massacre. One of the greatest protest songs of all time.
From “Trump4TheWin” on Twitter, reacting to Texas legalizing over-the-counter sales of ivermectin:
“There have been smaller studies that it also help shrink tumors. I just had my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer with a positive lymph node. Instead of dumping tons of radiation into my body, I opted to take Ivermectin. There are lots of ignorant people in this thread.”
True believer or internet troll?
Poe’s Law is inexorably cruel
DEVO, friends of Neil:
(With a Kent State tie in of their own)
“I’ve got a rhyme that comes with a riddle
Ohio
What’s round at the ends
And high in the middle?
Ohio”
By the way, Ohio has the most convenient rest stops on I-80 between Chicago and the east coast. IMO.
This is local news but I’m so agitated over this nonsense I have to get it out somewhere, and the Stupid MFers deserve the label mightily.
Stupid MFers #1 - the Board of Ed. They hired a business administrator without doing their due diligence, based mostly on the word of the Superintendent who vouched for her (he subsequently passed away from a medical condition). This BA then decided to hide $10,000,000 of overdue invoices in a desk drawer, and lied about the upcoming budget she crafted as being “balanced”. End result we are nearly $20,000,000 in the hole, and she left our district before it was discovered to take on a new job as BA of a different district.
As a result of this hole, the district will take an advance on state aid and have issued 100 pink slips for teachers, aides, paraprofessionals, and staff.
Stupid MFers #2 - the BoE lawyers. The BoE and new Superintendent decided to ask the people of my town for $20 big ones to fill that hole via a Referendum. Both ballot questions asked if the BoE should seek approval from voters for money. They did not say the board shall raise school taxes to fill these shortfalls, the questions asked if the board should seek approval to raise taxes.
People thought the language was confusing but the BoE and Super said that our legal team said it was all legal. As noted above, a judge deemed the questions confusing, so the vote is cancelled. The district still has to pay $40,000 for the printing and mailings that were already done.
Stupid MFers #3 - the BoE and their Lawyers and the new Superintendent. They had an emergency session last night. During the public portion not a single one of them took responsibility for this Referendum failure.
No embarrassment at having failed to support the children of the district, or having to keep the 100 pink slips effective, or being unable to do the simple task of crafting effective ballot language, no apology for wasting 40 grand. All they noted was that the ballot was actually correctly worded before going back into the private “executive session”.
One of the ironic aspects of being stupid is being too stupid to know how stupid you are. (Also the reason why the Dunning-Kruger Effect exists.)
