Experts on teleporting?
I took it as a tongue-in-cheek title. Real both-sidesing it would have involved trying to frame it as a metaphor or some other attempt to sanewash it.
I thought the exact thing on reading the story.
I’ve “teleported” to a Waffle House before… the process involved consuming a copious amount of alcohol, to the point of blackening out… and if you’re that species of Christian, coming out of a blackout in a Waffle House is going to probably feel like god himself picked you up and moved you there… that idiot is going to fit right in with the other drunk at the Pentagon.
Must respect his Christian faith don’tcha know.
More likely experts on Waffle Houses.
Reading up on the company that organized this, it started as an annual Harry Potter con and branched out into organizing events for other fandoms after JK Rowling’s brand became toxic. It sounds like they have a lot of experience putting these things together as opposed being cheap grifters throwing everything together with AI like the Wonka guy did, so it’s a little baffling that this one turned out so horribly.
Their Wikipedia entry says they were supposed to host a “Jewish Joy Fest” last month that got postponed until next year, so they might be having financial issues in general right now considering that people don’t exactly want to do a lot of travelling and discretionary spending right now.
I’ve been to some shoe-string fan conventions, but the difference was that I knew ahead of time they were going to be a bit sparse and they certainly didn’t have $69 entrance fees. This event did not meet expectations.
I’m not surprised both attendees and vendors were disappointed. And for sure the vendors lost because they probably sold next to nothing. Didn’t see anything about refunding vendor fees, either.
This headline… there’s a LOT to unpack here.
“Jonathan Majors Fell Through A Window On Daily Wire Action Flick, Leading Crew To Walk Off Set; Producers Say They “Don’t Negotiate With Communists””
Among the unpacking is spokesmen for the injured parties passing on that they’re not worried about safety (without direct corroboration from the injured parties themselves), a guy in charge of explosives who’s barred by law from handling explosives (but that’s just “a paper infraction”, no big deal), cleanup crews not being told about people falling out of windows, a total lack of lines of communication with producers, a lack of firearm safety documentation, and producers “too busy blowing shit up to concern themselves” (their words).
You’d think that Rust would have prompted folks to be more careful.
Not to mention the asbestos and black mold.
Workplace safety is too woke, I guess. Real American Men die on the set the way God intended.
In the year 2076, crimes against society are punishable by community service… in show business. A time traveler moves forward in time and discovers a future where the business is anything but entertaining; and where stunts and special effects often lead to death.
CNN published an obituary for Michael J. Fox on their website.
News of Fox’s death came as some surprise to Fox.
“Michael J. Fox. He was the guy from Family Ties and Back To The Future. And, I think, a farcical teenage werewolf movie.”

School bus driver in Florida tried to beat a train. Didn’t quite make it but it could have been so much worse.
Surveillance video captured last Thursday’s crash at a railroad crossing in Sumter County, which deputies described as a near catastrophic disaster.
The fast-moving freight train clipped the rear of the school bus with 29 children on board at the crossing.
[T]he arrest addifavit … states that the responding deputy said Hampton can be heard on video saying, “Not gonna stop for no train.”
No one was injured, but Hampton was charged with 29 counts of child neglect and one count of endangering an adult.
She’s been fired.
Sumter County School District Superintendent Logan Brown said the train clipped the back of the bus, and the driver is no longer employed with the district as of Thursday.
“A matter of 6 inches is the difference in all of this, and it could have been an extremely catastrophic situation,” Brown said in a social media video released on Monday.
Brown said the bus driver, employed with the district since August 2015, was terminated following the incident. He also praised the train conductor’s response, calling him “a hero in this situation.”
News 6’s Tylisa Hampton looked at Yvonne Hampton’s personnel file with the school district. She had all “good” or “excellent” evaluations prior to this incident.
Holy crap, that could have been A LOT worse!
IME school busses are supposed to stop at train crossings even when there is no train!
Here, school buses are required to stop, the driver must turn off any noisemaking equipment, open the front door and the driver’s window, visually check for an oncoming train, and listen for an oncoming train.
Most of those are going to be the same for most states, including Florida, to match Federal regulations for school buses crossing railroad tracks.
Worse, those regs weren’t even relevant. She absolutely knew 100% there was a train coming and just didn’t want to wait. Ain’t no law in existence that can fix stupid
It’s a federal law. (And was the law depicted in the classic Schoolhouse Rock episode “I’m Just a Bill.”)
