TIL about the existence of Zardoz. The 70s were a very weird place. I was there and thought it weird then, and it hasn’t aged all that well.
That movie came about because they wanted to adapt the Lord of the Rings to film, but the studio thought it was too expensive. So the filmmaker who still had the creative urge thought, fuck it, I’ll just make up my own fantasy realm.
I shudder to think what Peter Jackson would have done in those circumstances.
