Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Without too much other comment, a woman who desperately wanted to find something to be an activist about and was completely wrong. https://www.bellinghamherald.com/news/local/crime/article316526458.html

Now that’s a story worth clicking into. Although the suspect seems to be equal parts stupid and insane / drugged out. Which IMO adds a tinge of pathos to what’s otherwise a facepalming display of raw stupidity.

“Subscribe to continue reading”, about one sentence in. Maybe a little comment?

Idiot vandalized memorial statue to fishermen lost at sea because the statue was holding a coiled rope, which obviously is a white supremacist dog whistle evoking nooses used for lynching.

I agree. However, it looks like he really is going to be at Riot Fest.

That looks to me like a creative way to say “Hell no, I’m not doing this show”.

The bassist used to play with Ozzy and Billy Idol. The guitarist and drummer played for bands I’ve never heard of, but I’m not much of a metalhead. This is making me really want to go to Riot Fest, the lineup is pretty strong this year.

That thread doesn’t exist, and yes, the rider is obviously a joke. I put it here because starting a heavy metal band at age 95 when you’ve never been a good singer and don’t play an instrument is… questionable at best.

Since when are being a good singer and playing an instrument perquisites for being in a metal band?

Sorry, it didn’t give me that when I had gotten linked to it. More discussion on Reddit. Reddit - Please wait for verification

Does that mean there was one William Shatner before, and now there will be two?

BLASPHEMY! :angry_face_with_horns: :sign_of_the_horns:

Ah yes, Vancouver’s geriatric satanic nazi death metal darlings.

Curious if Shatty will break out the cookie monster-like death metal growling, or just more soliloquizing.

I suspect it will be the latter. He’s been doing it for decades with modest success, why stop now?

STREISAND EFFECT TIME!

In April, and then again last week, Wired published a series of (paywalled) articles about how the owner of Madison Square Garden has been running his petty fiefdom as a surveillance state - tracking fan’s identities and maintaining dossiers on them, kicking people out if they worked for a company with a legal dispute against them or they’d posted negatively about him on social media, assigning people “risk factors”, tracking whether they’re LGBT+ and in at least one instance surveilling a transgender Knicks fan’s movements through the venue minute-by-minute for some bizarre reason, pursuing vendettas against attendees and trying to get them fired from their jobs, and other generally creepy behavior.

This week, MSG decided to sue them to try to force them to take down the articles.

As a result, they’ve unpaywalled them.

I’d like to see his cover of “Walk” by Pantera.

Great stories. Thanks for finding them.

I’m just trying to imagine Metal … Lyrics … Delivered … With … Big … Pauses.

This is stupid, but stupid in the tragic sense, not the ignorant belligerence sense:
‘She was amazing’: 18-year-old dies after falling at California dam.

Now that’s tragic: promising teen fell off the underside of a highway bridge over the gorge just downstream of a dam. What were the teens doing hanging out under a bridge over a gorge? The usual dumb stuff teens do.

Credit to the original SDMB ref to the article here:

Oh, wow, I’ve driven over that bridge many a time. Sad when people die for stupid reasons.
