Resin is the stuff in between the glass fibers in fiberglass. Or a bunch of other substances; it’s a very broad category of materials.
Embedding fibers (of glass or other materials) in resin usually makes it stronger, but that might or might not be necessary for something not meant to carry loads, like a statue.
On the other hand, after each incident you can say “At least I am smarter than that”.
“Resin” seems to be the word the art world uses when the term “injection molded plastic casting” sounds incompatible with the price they intend hope to charge for the product.
I think that “resin” is a subset of plastics, but I’m not sure precisely what the distinction is (I think it has something to do with the polymerization process). Certainly it’s not synonymous with injection-molded plastic, since resin can be formed in other ways, too (for instance, 3D printing, which this artist might well have used).

I’ve just seen “resin” used in lots of advertising for mass-produced artwork (read “tchotchkes”). Sounds soo much nicer than “injection molded polystyrene”, even if polystyrene is not in fact properly a resin.
Seems to be a prestige word meant to imply greater quality than the sad reality. Sort of like the puffery that Franklin Mint’s product descriptions are full of.

For large runs, yes, you want styrene, but that requires metal molds and hot material. For small runs cold resin in silicone molds is much easier and perfectly adequate. Below is a resin-cast HO scale locomotive.
However, that’s for something you want to make more than one off. For a one-off like the statue in question making mods and casting them makes no sense.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon accidentally ended his own local political career.
Earlier this year, democrats introduced legislation that would impose term limits on his position, and McMahon vetoed it. So they reintroduced the legislation.
This time, McMahon accidentally signed it and returned it. Nineteen minutes later, he emailed a corrected form. But Democrats are saying that the first one is the official version.
Of course, this is going to go through the court system, but in the meantime, this is too good not to share.
