Despite, or perhaps because of, such beliefs, Kirk became a hugely celebrated and influential figure in Maga circles.
bolding mine
In desperation, Furnari set up an online fundraising campaign, hoping to raise an initial $150,000, but potentially millions of dollars, which he said would allow him to take the statue on tour. As of Thursday, he had raised $1,400.
Instead, he said he has been inundated by messages from people saying they intend to urinate on the sculpture.
To add injury to insult, Furnari recently broke his foot working on the statue, after tripping over a roll of tape in his studio.
Definitely, which obviously raises questions. Some appraisers are shady, and the article doesn’t detail when the erosion became destructive. Most appraisals are against “comps”–comparative properties. Cape Cod is expensive…

He might have stood a chance to make money on it last fall, after the assassination, but Erica Kirk has done all she could to eradicate any good will towards her late husband.
This is a classic case of being the last investor in the Ponzi scheme.
Has he considered the possibility that he’s just a shitty sculptor? Have you seen that thing? It looks like it goes with the Gene and Peter paper mache statues the kids made in Dazed and Confused.
Yes, lenders definitely do an appraisal. But the appraiser will just determine how much the house is worth at this instant based on size, number of rooms, & comparing to similar nearby houses which have sold recently. They have no duty to determine future value. And unless the appraiser was plugged into local politics, he may not have known that the shoreline was eroding at such a fast rate.
How long do manic phases last? IME it takes at least 45 days from signing the purchase & sales to closing on the property, and he could have backed out during that time (with some losses).
Yep, Furnari really fucked up the timing on seeking financial advantage via his Charlie Kirk statue. If he’d put together a Kickstarter the week after Kirk’s death, with a tagline like ”and I will create this memorial artwork RIGHT HERE IN RADICAL-LEFT NEW YORK CITY and place it in Times Square where PATRIOTIC TOURISTS can honor it and even the LOCAL COMMUNIST TRAITORS will have to respect it!!!”, he’d have amassed millions by now.
At this point, though, MAGA have forgotten about their previous passionate determination to ram the late Charlie Kirk down liberal throats, so the psychological moment of viral profitability has passed. Sad! Anyway.
If Furnari does follow through with his intention to set up the statue in Times Square, I fully expect that all the anonymous correspondents who offered to, um, acid-wash the artwork for him will be delighted to fulfill their promises.
And just how would he put it on Times Square? That’s some very valuable real estate, there. Just abandon it in the middle of the street? Pay one of the landowners even more money, for them to put it on their property?
Yeah, even a MAGA artist ought to be able to figure out that you ANNOUNCE that you’ll be putting up your sculpture in Times Square, and then once you’ve posted pictures of the finished product and collected all your donations, you follow up with a further announcement that the artwork has been acquired by a connoisseur for display in a well-known private collection. So no public installation after all, sorry.
And then, if you have any vestiges of artistic conscience, you torch the abomination in the privacy of your own studio, and that’s that. Simple.
Did you see that pic in your linked article with the sculptor sitting on a bench next to his (seated-pose) Charlie Kirk statue and holding a little black and white spaniel on his lap? That dog is looking straight at the camera with a mischievous tongue-lolling grin that says as clear as words could utter, ”I am SO gonna piss on that thing.”
