Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Tempting, but most folks aren’t threatening the linemen, and that just punishes everyone. What we need is some way to just keep the folks making the threat without power.

My money is on 5G nuttery.

I’m figuring it’s more like dumbasses who are upset that they don’t have power RIGHT NOW, and are taking out their aggression on the schmucks on the front line, rather than directing it towards the penny pinching CFOs & CEOs who had decided a great quarterly bottom line was more important than maintenance.

Well, the folks threatening the linemen didn’t create this situation on their own. Their hostility didn’t well up from nothing.

The stupid system they have is doing that, and in some way everyone down there is responsible for putting people in power who deliberately create a system that hurts millions of people for corporate profits.

Speaking as someone’s who’s had a rodent in his pants*, this guy is nuts.

*the incident in question happened as I was sitting outside a college dorm one spring day, giving my guinea pig Eno a little fresh air and exercise. Something spooked him and he ran for safety into the first enclosure he could find, which was my pants leg. Efforts to dislodge him failed, and I had to limp back to my room with a guinea pig-sized bulge in my pants in the upper thigh region, no doubt impressing several nearby young women.

At least you didn’t just strip your pants off right then and there.

“Is that guinea pig in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?”

“Um, well…”

Why not both?

John Deere joins the bandwagon of jumping off the bandwagon.

Amazing. Isn’t that company one of the outfits the hard-core base of the pubbies touts?

Woman has dinner at Longhorn, then skips out without paying the check. The funny part is the video of her yelling at the staff because they will not return her purse that she forgot to take with her.

If she were older I would put this in the “evil” thread:

A 12-year-old girl in Tennessee has been charged with murder, accused of smothering her 8-year-old cousin as the younger girl slept. A relative said they had been arguing over an iPhone.

A security camera recorded the killing, inside the bedroom they shared on July 15 in Humboldt, Tennessee, the county prosecutor said. The recording shows the older child using bedding to suffocate her cousin as the younger girl slept in the top bunk

Why was there a video camera in a 12-year-old girl’s room?

I’m hoping it was just always there as a baby monitor and never removed, which is lazy as fuck but at least not malicious.

Anything else is disturbing, including any prior behavior where a 12 year old demonstrated she needed to be monitored to this extent. In which case, why place the cousin in the same room?

Horrible and tragic story all around.

A relative told WREG-TV in Memphis that the girls had been arguing over an iPhone after coming from out of town to stay with their grandmother.

There’s a Reddit comment:

That was the grandma’s house. She was watching the eight year old for the summer idk about the 12 year old.

The Netherlands is sending someone who raped a child to participate in the Olympics. (The link goes to Yahoo.)

The Netherlands’ Olympic chief has said he is “surprised” at reactions towards Steven van de Velde, the Dutch beach volleyball player who served time in prison for raping a child 10 years ago and who will represent the Netherlands at this year’s Olympics.

Van de Velde, who is now 29, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2014 for raping the girl who was aged 12, according to British media. He was released in 2017.

He has now been selected to represent the Netherlands in beach volleyball for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

From the above link:

“He was convicted at the time according to English law and he has served his sentence. From then on, we have been in constant contact with Steven, who has now been fully reintegrated into the Dutch volleyball community,” Everaert added in the statement.

No claim of rehabilitation or remorse? Is English law that different from Netherlands law on this point? This seems like a very unresponsive statement.

I get that if someone has served their time, that they can participate in society and everything. Though I’m not sure if like in the US they are registered as a sex offender and have that status for the rest of their life.

But you’re sending this person to represent your country. I mean, he’s surely a great volleyball player but this can’t be the image you want to portray about your country on the world stage.

Remorse? For what? From the link I posted, there’s this stellar comment:

The federation noted that van de Velde was aware this “black period in his life” would resurface “but is obviously not happy about it.”

Those stupid MFers are really not handling this fiasco well at all.

From the link:

Sentencing him, Judge Francis Sheridan said: "You were a potential Olympian. You had the possibility of a stellar future representing the Netherlands.

Mitigating, Linda Strudwick said: "There is genuine remorse. He has lost a stellar sports career and has been branded a rapist. Plainly it is a career end for him. "

Or maybe not…
