What about a loud, obnoxious Harley rider? I thought that was the only time it was cool to call someone a “fag”?
Me, I yearn for the days when radio stations used to play the album cut of Money For Nothing.
Ding dong, the troll is dead, the troll is dead, the troll is dead. Ding dong…
Goodbye, femmejean. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.
I blame Spice Weasel.
I credit Spice Weasel.
In my ideal world people would realize, exercise restraint and simply not respond to trolls or trolling. There is no virtue in outwitting the dimwitted, or prodding the mentally ill.
If only it weren’t revolving.
Probable new one to keep an eye on.
Almost as satisfying as getting rid of NDD. Almost.
I nominate Spice Weasel for the Nobel Peace Prize. (That’s the closest I could come, since the Norwegian Nobel Committee doesn’t seem to have a Nobel Anti-Trolling Prize. You’d think they might, given the historical familiarity with trolls.)
Looks like that post got cornfielded. You may be right. (I can’t tell “who” we’re speaking of, since the post is now chillin’ with He Who Walks Behind The Rows.)
Darren linked to a search, which has since expired.
Link still works for me. It is to a user called “miketx.”
Ah, yeah, definite troll.
Oh, that one.
miketx falls into the “trump clown car” troll category. Before someone pops up saying that “not all conservatives” or “all liberals hate” or whatever, no, we don’t. That guy was an idiot.
Bone - thank you for pulling the trigger. I’d happily send you chocolate. While I wish we could all ignore trolls all day long, it gets harder when they are here for 6 months plus and they seem to be a permanent fixture. For whatever reason FJ made through the noob stage and we looked to be stuck with him.
It’s like a tragedy of the commons. However, even though I know my one little bit of littering doesn’t make a difference, I still don’t litter. And you probably don’t, either. It’s not that difficult.
A better analogy might be trying to stamp out vermin. You know there will be more along, but if you don’t squash the ones you have now, you will soon be overwhelmed by them. Not to mix metaphors, but generally speaking, if you give them the rope, they will hang themselves.
Part of my problem, specifically, is that I don’t always know who is a troll, and in the back of my head I’m always thinking ''Maybe I shouldn’t ignore this person because what if they are real and their self-perpetuated social ostracism is hurting them and this is one of the rare opportunities they have to be told about themselves?" Assuming the person is sincere, there is some utility in mild social censure to reform behavior. With fj I assumed there was some possibility he was a real person, just very messed up, and maybe he could learn.
For the most part, I agree. In that respect I believe there is far too much response to trolling here. The problem is that some posters are neither intentional trolls nor, in a strict clinical sense, mentally ill. A lot of them are just annoying nitwits, and that’s why we have the Pit!
miketx would be a good example of the “annoying nitwit” species and IMHO not an intentional troll – just someone who believes that (to quote one of his illustrious posts) “media is owned by liberal scum”.
