Omnibus Trolls R Us Thread

  1. What the hell is going on with the formatting on posting a reply now? (Sorry, it’s distracting.)

  2. I really came here to share this. I think this may be a record in emo-trolling. That is one looooonng weep into someone’s virtual beer.

Was that the “marry me” one? 'This gone now.

Yes, it was the long rambling “marry me” one. I should have quoted some of it, but where to start? What to choose?

What is the point of linking to a thread or post by a troll, when you know it’s going to wished into the cornfield? If you want to comment on it, quote the damned thing here. Otherwise we be have no idea what you’re talking about.

Eh, I haven’t read the thread in question, but it’s not always apparent which threads are going to be wished into the cornfield.

The Mods work in mysterious ways.

It is still in Google’s cache. Besides, there was no way to know for sure that it would be cornfielded–I assumed that it would just be moved from GQ to MPSIMS.

ETA: I see that the OP was banned, too. Probably a sock.

Well, considering the last emo-troll is still alive and well and gathering responses about her husband’s bachelor party, it is hard to know what will stick. Plus this sucker was heading into 250 word territory, with no carriage returns, it’s hard to even know what to quote. I’ll try to pick something in future.

We’d rather you didn’t. If we decide a poster is a troll and disappear the post or thread, we’d rather not have to edit quotes out of posts.

Likewise, once a troll has been cornfielded, the less you highlight them the better.

I get that. It’s just annoying if someone comments on a post and I come to this thread too late to read the original.

Yeah, but she is so lost and just doesn’t knowwhat to do!!!

Ok - I won’t pick something in future. TBH, I haven’t even been including their names in these posts, for this reason, among others (like the fact that some of them come looking for mentions).

I hear Dewey. It’s usually me that’s missed something. I have become an expert on Google.

If that’s the case, why is this thread allowed to exist?

This thread has done nothing BUT highlight trolls and their hijinx.

I would posit that identifying trolls isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the mods. In some cases where they are deleted with prejudice, they’re asking for a little more discretion from us up front. In the cases where the bridge-dweller sticks around a little longer, it probably matters less and less as time goes by. This is all my own supposition.

The purpose of this thread is to be a safe space to call people out for being trolls without receiving a mod warning for it.

That we point out new trolls is just a feature of that purpose.

But yeah, I agree with Colibri on not actually quoting people who are going to be cornfielded. Too many people get rushed straight into the corn and we don’t need to quote and highlight their shit here.

He’s standing as the National Bocialist MP candidate in the North Minehead by-election.

The inevitable end effect of this thread is that if it works well, it doesn’t work for long (with respect to any particular troll). When we start mocking, the timer starts, ‘cause we’re also bird-dogging for the mods. And they’re not gonna let a troll keep trollin’ just because we’re having fun with 'em.

We’re the cats. The mods are the humans that take our [del]toy[/del] prey away.

1 - it violates no rules.
2 - the assessment of the participants is not always in alignment with the assessment of the arbiters.

There has been some discussion in this thread about trolls after they’ve been banned, but that’s only a small fraction of the posts here. Besides, that in and of itself isn’t against the rules. The mods will sometimes request that we table discussion about a banned individual if it looks like it’s derailing a thread, or giving the banned poster too much post-mortem attention, but casual references are not against the rules.

And the BBQ Pit’s purpose is to be the one forum where it’s OK to do things like call active posters trolls.

Only just now discovered “welcome new members” at bottom of SDMB page.

So I’d wager dogslicktheirpeepeesforpleasur might not be too long of this place.

Speaking personally, this thread has been very useful in identifying trolls, and I thank contributors. I myself have probably banned at least a dozen trolls pointed out in this thread. (You aren’t always right, though.) But once they have been identified and banned, it serves no further purpose to highlight them.
