Good catch, even if it wasn’t him!! I read those posts and it never occurred to me to think “sock”.

Do we use “sock” to refer to an alter-ego of a current poster only, or does it include alter-egos of now-banned posters?
Here I was hoping that we’d get a twofer out of TPTB banning WeeHawker and whoever else he is. Be a shame if that was really whoever else he was. Disappointment indeed, QS.
I’ve been using sock to include banned posters as well, FWIW. A troll could have multiple identities, such as whatsit from New Jersey, but is always the same troll.
As we use it here, “sock” refers to any multiple usernames of the same individual, whether the previous name has been banned or whether the names are in simultaneous use.
It was a two-fer.
While I know you don’t want to publicize, saying this just stokes the curiosity of many.

A couple of days ago for a few seconds I thought that* I *might be a sock. I noticed a poster named DarrenG and I wondered if I had signed up to make a post here years ago and then forgot about it. Turned out to be a one-and-done poster who wasn’t me, though.
That ever happen, somebody notice that they had two accounts without realizing it?

OK, I’ll out myself.* I was looking for an old post of mine a couple of years ago, and was chagrined to realize I’d made it under an account (Trout24) I’d created in 2007. I made a grand total of 2 posts on that account, then drifted away for a year. In the meantime, I’d changed email addresses and, being a newbie, thought nothing of just creating a new account when I returned (shockingly, I hadn’t read the whole registration agreement). I completely forgot about it until I found my post under a different user name.
I PM’d engineer_comp_geek about it as soon as I realized. He said he’d merge the accounts eventually as soon as things slowed down. It hasn’t been a priority for him, and it isn’t for me either. Although I could be celebrating my 10-year anniversary if I go by that join date.
*I notified the mods at the time, so I’m not really outing myself here.
ETA: the other reason I haven’t pressed for an account merge is I’m worried I’ll lose my nice round user number. I have my priorities.
I’ll let running coach report that one.
