Omnibus Trolls R Us Thread

Interesting article on the topic of women in the software/computer industries

I know it was a random mis-post, but I have to mention this:

I believe the agreed upon euphemism is that Trump is a horse in a hospital.

I think I figured out who’s trock this is:

Took me awhile. Erred more than once, I’m sure. Really took me a bit to figure it out. Rare that it takes me that long, but there you have it.

Or… nah. Keeping this place clean and fun is worth it. Really, someone has to do it. Another time, maybe someone else. Hope springs eternal. Others may not care, but I do. My time is valuable, but I do what I can. And maybe that’s enough?

:dubious::smiley:

Brilliant.

If you haven’t, read Hidden Figures; it’s that article writ large and for the US. I haven’t watched the movie, but the author liked it. There were parts of the book I found difficult to follow because the writer never thought it might be read by foreigners without the background knowledge that it makes sense to take for granted if you’re thinking of American audiences; I believe she was specifically thinking of colored American audiences. In a way, for me those assumptions and having to dig for “waitwaitwait, what does that mean?” was as interesting as the rest of the book; sometimes what’s not there is as big a chunk of information as what is.

the Nazis told me the Jews are in control of everything and they are planning to take over the world, so I told them I know all that, because my wife is Jewish, but how do you know all that?

I read it and liked it very much. I’m also looking forward to reading Mary Robinette Koval’s “Lady Astronaut” series which touches on the same issues (it’s an alternate history starting in 1953 The Lady Astronaut novels are an enthralling alternate history of the space race - The Verge

Aha! Good reasoning; excellent, even!

He hasn’t gone on any rants about Muslims, Churchill or transgendered people, has he? Only the username reminds me of someone…

Ooooh thank you! I’m going to be spending quite some time in airports in the months to come… aaaand yes, there’s a kindle version!

I remember it as:

“Let’s go down to the racetrack and throw horses down in there because the gig is up.”

Now that’s quality shitposting.

Question - why is LAZombie still a member?

You’re very welcome.

Oh, look: a troll call.

Counter question: Why are there still people who DON’T have him on “ignore?”

It’s not until you put WillFarnaby on ignore that you notice exactly how fucking prolific he is. Like… fuck. Every goddamn thread about taxation or policy, he shows up, touting his delusional first-grader’s understanding of libertarian economics. There’s no real point in trying to teach him anything beyond that - he’s not listening. The result is that in any given discussion, the best case scenario is that everyone ignores a mess of incredibly stupid responses, and realistically, half of any given thread turns into people trying to explain literally anything beyond econ 101 to someone who is just completely fucking retarded.

Huey was possibly the least problematic “troll” I’ve ever seen, because if I wasn’t interested in dealing with his shit, I could just leave the tiny handful of threads he was active in. I wish utter morons like WillFarnaby would do us the same courtesy.

Perhaps your “ignore” button is broken because you can’t seem to.

You know you want to try this:

WillFarnaby isn’t any different than a MantraPhilter. The difference is that it is easier to call out total nonsense in science than economics. But he’s a kook and will never ever realize that he’s a kook. I don’t ignore him because some of the things he says are hilarious. I like the one recently where he said Mueller is milking the investigation. I mean that’s gold, Jerry, gold.

Yes, well when a significant portion of the threads I take part in devolve into “explaining basic shit to Mantraphiltr he obviously already knows because we explained it already”, I’ll bitch about him. But I don’t run into him very often for whatever reason.

It is, however, an active detriment to reasonable discussion.
