The word “wipe” should not be associated with food unless it’s done with a napkin to remove something that spilled or othwerise went where it’s not supposed to go.

That is how we eat hummus around here, though - by tearing off a piece of pita and using it to wipe in a semicircular motion. See the very end of this clip for an example.
Really, IMHO Hummus isn’t actually a “dip”. Unlike salsa or guac, it’s too thick and sticky to dip stuff in easily, without risking breakage. Hence the wiping with soft bread.
It’s still dipping. Wiping is for cleaning, not for eating.
Also, I’m no hummus expert, but I’ve eaten hummus at Lebanese, Afghan, Turkish, Moroccan, and many other types of restaurants, and it ranges from quite thick to quite thin depending on the cuisine, in my experience. I find Afghan to be the thinnest, almost like a smoothie.
Point of order - at the end of a plate of spaghetti, one use’s one’s Italian bread to wipe up the dregs. Indeed, a biscuit might serve the same purpose for a bowl of beef stew. Oh, there’s wiping.
I’d call that mopping. Mopping up. As opposed to wiping away.
Most of you won’t get this reference, but HurricaneDitka right now is acting like a guy in a Mafia game who’s just been fingered as scum by a cop, and everyone immediately votes for him, but he keeps posting huge walls positing theories about redirectors and framers, accuses the mod of being gastard for making him a miller without telling him, then tries counterclaiming cop, then says the cop claim was just a reaction test and hardclaims suicide-bombing jester.
You don’t know whether to admire his commitment or be annoyed that he’s insulting everyone’s intelligence. Either way it’s pretty amusing.
