Well it’s like you said. Some trolls are entertaining.
Most are simply annoying (with some being rather idiotic to boot).
He may, but only if he finds that the trolling isn’t attracting enough action and needs to be polluted with a new burst of lunacy straight out of Infowars to get people riled up again. But we have to wait until the wee hours. His role model here is Dracula: he only operates very late at night, and is gone long before sunrise. What is beyond me is how the mods put up with the blatant trolling.

I suffer from enjoying your posts at times, but mostly I think you’re either an annoying poster, genuine racist/ignorant person, or deliberate troll…say, 75 percent of the time. I tend to find myself always disagreeing with whatever position you take in a thread and think you’re overly stubborn and mostly argue just to be annoying and a thorn in people’s sides (AKA, trollish) or because you truly don’t know how you come across or hold the vastly unpopular or wrong opinion (in other words, obtuse, blind, or stupid).
But there is that 25 percent of posts from you that I do–sometimes–enjoy and agree with.
As for the adding you to my friends/contacts list, feel free to take me off of yours if you want, but it will keep you on mine…me sending the request puts the person on my list automatically and doesn’t need the person’s permission for it…and I do it for pretty much everyone just so it can help me keep track of posters I think of as “main, regular posters who post daily/often”. Many other posters on here who don’t get along with me or who aren’t particularly fond of me can attest to me having added them to my contacts on here, so I’m sorry if that mislead you into thinking I liked your posts. Like I said, I do SOMETIMES…mildly. But mostly you really do come off as kind of an asshole a lot of times.

If you read carefully, at most you could say I’m ignorant. Which is true of everyone in different areas. With regards to popular/wrong? I don’t care at all about popular. Popular is irrelevant. What I want to read and engage with are people who disagree with me. I want to see if they can convince me.
And I’ve been convinced on some subjects. I’m in favor of a basic income. I’m in favor of increased spending on several sorts of social programs. I’m in favor of prison reform. Etc. But I’m not going to change my mind because of the “popular” kids on some random forum. I don’t need their validation.
Why would I want to post where everyone agrees with me? I see absolutely 0 value in an online circle jerk. Pardon my language.
There is not a single post of mine that can be legitimately labeled as racist or bigoted. That’s pure nonsense spread by, frankly, borderline retarded posters who can’t read any form of nuance. Do I post in controversial threads? Of course. Again I have 0, well maybe 1%, interest in hopping into a thread and posting “me too!” as some weird virtue signalling lemming.
Finally, posting style. I don’t post the way others post because to my recollection in the ancient days of Rome with their practice of oration rhetoric was a significant component of engaging an audience. I’ve never suffered under the illusion that pure fact and pure logic is sufficient to convince an audience. I don’t care about cite this or cite that. That’s not trolling. That’s definitely not ignorance. It’s a different tool in an arsenal of techniques in order to influence an audience. I’m not saying it’s effective. Winning the US presidency notwithstanding. I’m just saying if logic and reason were sufficient we wouldn’t have religion, superstition, and climate change deniers now would we?
Again, this is in forums in which pure facts are not demanded. And I don’t care what anyone says, debate, elections, and pitting are not dependent upon pure facts. If you ever read any of my posts in GQ I will post what I think is factually correct and if someone has a better source or superior reasoning I will concede the point and acknowledge it.
- And I honestly don’t know what to think of most of the people on this board. For the most part we only see a fraction of who they are. We don’t see any body language. We don’t see how they interact with others in real life. We don’t see how they behave when they think noone is looking. We only know how they present themselves through words on this site. We don’t have their tax returns. That is not enough evidence to make a good conclusion.
I do know that those who are quick to label those they disagree with even when they don’t understand what they are disagreeing with as troll, deplorable, racist, etc aren’t doing themselves any favors. Strangely enough this mirrors what I said in the first thread I participated in.
Can someone please explain what a ‘troll sock’ is? I saw it used here last week, but I wasn’t exactly sure what it stood for.
