The world is sadly filled with these sorts of people who believe they have discovered some hidden truth about the universe that they must share with everyone. Often this appears to be a symptom of some form of mental illness - IANAD but the walls of stream-of-consciousness text (with diagrams! Can’t forget the diagrams!) suggest mania. MANTRAPHILTER strikes me as one of these, placing him in the same august category as the TimeCube guy and Archimedes Plutonium.
If he’s merely trolling, he’s certainly put a lot of work in on it. I vote for cray-cray.
Yes, I believe that “Man Trap” Hilter (who I really want to call “Man Trap” Hitler) is a genuine nut. As Gyrate mentioned, people who spew ignorant gibberish while believing that they have discovered something profound, and that all people that don’t embrace them are either idiots or part of a conspiracy against them are a dime a dozen.
I used to work at a university and once received, out of the blue, a lengthy handwritten screed (half in English, half in Arabic) from someone in Algeria comparing the heliosphere with the “human alimentary tract”. There were diagrams. I don’t read Arabic but the English was enough to demonstrate that this person was serious, extremely earnest, and in need of professional attention.
This was back in USENET days (which may not have been accessible from Algeria at the time); nowadays people just C&P their theses everywhere online they can.
I don’t think he is necessarily mentally ill. What I see is someone with a reasonably high intelligence but with little or no formal higher education who really, really resents people who do have a formal education. He has sour-graped himself into thinking that “gumption” is all that he needs to get around his poor education. And he is very, very confident that he is The Smartest Guy In The Room. The guy is Cliff Claven or Peggy Hill, not Archimedes Plutonium.
(I get much of this from his comments at Science Forums, not here–he has many bitter things to say about people with college degrees, and a high opinion of his ability to solve problems without formal education. Read over this post in particular, which has examples of most of that.)
THIS is almost never true - However smart I may be, there’s always someone smarter.*****
That can be a bit of a shock, and not everyone deals well with that realization. Edit:
***** And if I AM the smartest person in the room, I’m in the wrong room.
The Smartest Guy In The Room topic reminded me of Complexintuition, who joined us for two days in April in order to question the intelligence of Isaac Newton.
Well, it’s possible his middle-school semester is ended and his mommy doesn’t let him use the Internet at home. But that was just open-mic amateur hour grade transparent trollery.
Another one Just joined, first post is about what he should do to pay off the debt his coke addicted wife has run up. He’s already gotten a lot of advice, all of which has been countered with reasons why he won’t/can’t do that.
I just took a look at that WoT about the theory of everything. I cannot help it, when I see that username, I break it into MAN TRAP HILTER. That is probably not what that person intended, but the therapist effect is inescapable for me.
Surely no one can actually be that stupid.
I love the twist of not being able to leave his coke-head wife, who has actually put his life in danger, because of his belief in the sanctity of his marriage vows.
I truly hope this guy is a troll because otherwise, there’s a child who’s going to have a hard life.
