Omnibus Trolls R Us Thread

Does anyone know if Giraffes can dance?

Darn you, I was just coming here to post about GCD. He was messing with the DeathPool thread, and when I reported him to the mods he got nasty.

My only problem with that is that sometimes it seems some people aren’t in on it. And there’s no clear way to let people know that we suspect someone is trolling, other than having a thread like this that you hope people check (and they don’t).

it is the policy. of course the non statement of the obvious and never discussing or mentioning the obvious, this policy will (eventually at the end of the internet) be successful in its objective.

Who cares if they’re in on it?

I’m in favor of treating every thread with earnestness and sincerity. If the subject in real, we might actually help someone; if not, at least we had a good conversation. And if some random loser on the internet is laughing at us from the shadows… let them.

Totally agree. Its all about the conversation.

Doesn’t the username kind of scream “I’m a banned poster back with a sock?”

He did just post a well-thought-out, normal-style contribution to the NBA thread (in Game Room). Have the Mods ever banned someone from certain fora but not others?

Yes, I believe so. And some posters have been banned for certain topics, regardless of forum.

Let’s not forget this chestnut:

I didn’t realize that the Queen of Menstruation had joined our ranks. She’ll set those spoiled brats straight. The nerve of some people, having debilitating menstrual cramps just to get attention.

It does indeed. I almost feel like I know the guy.

This is generally my approach – I’ve been criticized by more than a few dopers (whom I still love!) for ‘feeding the trolls’ far too much, but I enjoy the discussion and back-and-forth too much to change the way I post, except to try and move such discussions to their own threads (which I’ve been doing lately).

Plus, every so often there’s a breakthrough!

Thudlow low gives the boffinator what for!

Ah, the old “if I don’t experience it, it doesn’t exist” mentality. Shitforbrains, indeed.

No, no, no. I’m too cool too experience it, which is even better.

News Flash!!! boffinator feels so strongly about the subject that in the thread he started the first time (not that one, but the original linked from that one) that he actually came back to his own thread – not once, but twice! That has to be a record for someone whose typical return rate is zero.

I think he’s a student. Which explains a lot.

I can’t recall a case where we’ve instructed a poster not to post in a particular forum. Topic bans yes, but they extend across forums.

Woot!
Unexplored territory!

The problem is that if you banned them from a forum they would just start inappropriate threads in the wrong forum, and you would have to move or close them.
