On Borderlands

Ah, my mistake. I have to have a Game Agent account, as ought to have been sufficiently clear from what you wrote. What is Game Agent?

It’s a game store that specializes in Mac stuff. They had previous notable sales on BL2 GOTY edition and Bioshock Infinite. Maybe others but I only pay attention if it’s a sale on a Steam game that’s cross-platform compatible.

Anyway, no portion of the process has you enter any financial information (credit card number, etc) so there’s minimal risk involved. Could enter a fake name, address, birth day etc if you’re so inclined.

I just signed up for an account, and for me it says I have to buy BL2 or BL2 GOTY to get the freebie DLC. The text says “Happy Valentine’s Day from GameAgent! Get your free copy of Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre by purchasing either Borderlands 2 or Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition! Find more details on all the Valentine’s Day promos in this blog post.” But the blog post still says “says free if you’re logged in” - and it’s not.

The offer is over. As I predicted they ran out of key early. Then they said they had a limited amount (500) new keys and those disappeared immediately.

Supposedly if you received a confirmation they are still filling it but I wouldn’t wager hard money on it.

Ok I’ve been playing for a week or so because it came out on PS+ for free. Good game but I’m a Commando, for which Assault Rifles are their main weapons, and I can tell you I haven’t even seen so much as ONE green AR drop and I’m level 10 right now. Nothing but pistols and sniper rifles, a few sub MGs here and there but no AR’s. WTF is the deal here??? Can’t even BUY a green AR.

This is pretty disappointing since I’m a Commando who is supposed to use AR’s as my main weapon.

Weird. Well, the Mechromancer seems to be expected to use an assault rifle as well, but I use a sniper rifle wherever I can. And when I was playing a Siren in the last game, I used a sniper rifle instead of the expected SMG until very near the end. But then, I didn’t put points into any of the powers specific to those weapons either.

I presume that you’re just getting bitten in the ass by the random generator, but it is possible to juice your chances by quitting back to the character selection screen from a place where there’s a weapon vendor nearby, and re-starting. I have done so.

Also, if you have any of the DLC, and are high enough level to hack it, the loot in the DLC seems to be significantly better for the same level. On the XBox, I kept restarting in Oasis so that I could keep running down to check the weapon machine at the docks.

Check out some of the misc. quests given out by NPCs. Many of them offer a weapon as a reward and I’m sure a few give you an assault rifle. Also, keep an eye out for a guy named Michael Mamaril in Sanctuary. If you see him, talk to him and he will give you a boss weapon. You could also see if you can pick up some golden keys (Google them) and get yourself a good gun from the Sanctuary chest.

I played through in Normal mode and found nothing much beyond blue weapons right up to the last boss (who drops tons of loot). Playing in True Vault Hunter mode now, it seems like the loot has just shifted up a level so now I find tons of green and some blue weapons. I don’t think I’ve found a purple or orange yet (that wasn’t a quest reward) but I haven’t gone into any of the DLCs yet.

ooooh! Anyone want to play tru vault hunter mode with me? It’s hard to find people playing that mode! And it’s hard to make any type of progress without help.

I wonder, is the multiplayer limited by the areas you yourself cna access in your campaign? Maybe that’s why I’m not seeing many people.

I don’t even look for games with strangers, but I’d be willing to play with a Straight Dope group. But I am now replaying in True Vault Hunter Mode, or at least I was before I got sunk into Kingdoms of Amalur. Somebody around here plays games with the SDMB group, just never anything I play, but there must be some organization involved because I get announcements about it.

You’re level 10, and you have no special abilities which would enhance your assault rifle. Be patient; they will come. Level 10 is practically where the game actually begins.

Although I have some of the worst luck trying to get an AR myself. There are whole classes of Assault Rifle I’ve never seen a decent example of.

Don’t worry about that, and don’t get too locked in to using one type of weapon. AR’s do seem to be slightly less common than other weapons but you’ll certainly find your fair share over time. Early in the game, use what you find; you’ll trade up weapons fast enough anyway.

The Bee and Conference Call combination is supposed to be nerfed. However this does not mean it is not worth trying. I just ate the Warrior for breakfast using this combo and it did not take very long at all. TVHM too. The only downside is he didn’t drop very good loot this time around (no orange loot at all) but if he’s this easy to farm I don’t mind having to come back later.
