Borderlands 2 co-op, anyone?

The release date is today or tomorrow (9/17 or 9/18), so any time now!

I’d like to start playing a casual co-op campaign. Anyone interested?

If you dunno what the game is, it’s a first-person-shooter RPG with a few classes, different weapon types, and skill trees, set in relatively open worlds. http://www.borderlands2.com/us/

If you’re still looking to buy it, Green Man Gaming is selling the Steam preorder version for $36 (instead of the usual $59.99). Use coupon code “GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G”, and if you want, this referral link for $2 off a future purchase. I just got my key today from them and it works fine.

I’m getting it for the xbox, think it get released here on friday,

what class are you planing on playing?

Oops, forgot to mention this is on the PC. I’ll probably be playing an Assassin (sniper). Because I like point-n-click deaths

I’m up for it.

Steam told me it releases at midnight tonight my time (CST) so probably won’t be able to play till tomorrow at the earliest (after work so 7p(ish) CST).

I am a member of the SDMB group on Steam so can easily be found there.

ETA: I played the gunner-guy (Soldier?) in Borderlands but that was awhile ago. I need to re-familiarize myself with the game.

code expired. Got another one?

There’s GMG20-AWDF9-Q1PEY for 20% off, good until 9/25. (That’s 5% less than the previous coupon, but still pretty good). And use the referral link above for a little extra, if you want.

While I liked the style of the first one the missions felt repetitive and the maps like long hallways. Has that been addressed in Borderlands 2?

Will let you know

Just wanted to share this here.

I’ve got it. I’m Cale Knight on the Steam group.

I did buy it as part of a 4-pack (15 dolla discount!) so most of my Borderlands time will probably be with the other three jerks in the pack.

I’ll be on PS3, most likely playing Zer0 (the assassin). I’m NoPepperGames if any fellow Vault Hunters feels like teaming up.

Live now! I’m “iaintworthy” on Steam. Found you, Whack-a-Mole, and will try to find you later, Johnny.

PS - If anyone has a Borderlands 1 saved game, mind emailing it to me? It unlocks customization options in BL2. They should be in "\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\SaveData

I played through BL1 but on OnLive, so I have no access to my own saves :frowning:

Played for 3 hours. Got to Sanctuary. This feels exactly like the first game. They literally re-used the same elements all over again.

You start the game by getting off mass transit, see Claptrap, he leads you around and needs to be repaired, a voice in your head tells you what to do next, you meet unimportant people and do unimportant quests as you’re re-introduced to weapons and shields and all that stuff. Even Catch-A-Ride is the same.

After 3 hours of play I feel like I’ve just replayed the first game. Haven’t seen anything new yet.

The levels seem a bit more open, reminiscent of the area outside Firestone in the first, but it’s still a very, very formulaic experience: Go to X, kill 10 Y, rinse, repeat. The enemies seem to jump around a bit more but it’s still not very challenging. With a sniper rifle, you can pretty much stand there and headshot folks one at a time with minimum risk.

So far I’m not at all impressed, but hopefully it’ll get better.

Joystiq has review up. The last line sums up why I went in for a 4-pack:

I’m envious, but like always, I will be waiting for the deep discounts.

I waited with the original, and by the time I got it nobody was playing multiplayer.

This is a game to play with friends or not at all, I think. YMMV.

I’m not big on MP gaming to begin with, so my mileage varies. I thought Borderlands had a good single player story, unlike many other FPS and FPS/RPG hybrids.

IMO it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t particularly memorable either. The characters and voice acting were mostly good, but the story boiled down to some adventurer looking for some vault and killing things along the way. I think they dragged out the story longer than was necessary with fedex and rat-killing quests, and that was a detriment to the pacing.

Overall it never came close to the emotional involvement of, say, Mass Effect. Or even Half-Life. It was just hard to care about anyone except maybe Claptrap.

Whenever a game slaps on different character types and/or leveling options, they call it an RPG, but this wasn’t what I’d consider an RPG, like Mass Effect or others. You’re on a rail for the most part, just trying to get the next great loot drop. But for an FPS (which is what I consider it), it had a great story.

If they really wanted it to be considered a RPG, they should have built in an option to bed Tanis. Even with Lilith. Especially with Lilith!
