1st round - Brady Quinn trade.
2nd round - Corey Williams
3rd round - Shaun Rogers
I don’t know who this tight end is. He concerns me. They say he’s a pass catcher and not a blocker. It makes me wonder if they anticipate Winslow being gone in a year or two due to injury, but the scheme is designed around a pass catching tight end, so they’re drafting his replacement.
Traded next year’s #3 apparently.
The stupid NFL network talking head keeps up about how they need to take a backup RB. No, we’re good, thanks.
Maybe they took a cue from the Giants and decided they needed their own “Kevin Boss.” You don’t have to be fully gone to need your backup to step up. Winslow isn’t exactly the poster child for never-been-injured.
2 years ago we were discussing the idea of drafting Vernon Davis if he fell to our pick. I advocated it on the basis that if you had two elite pass catching tight ends you could design an offense unlike anything the NFL has seen. You could line up in 1 WR/2 TE/FB/RB formations and run with a ton of blockers at the POA or pass and get your elite TEs on their linebackers. 2 WR/2 TE/RB is a little more balanced, but they still have to run base 4-3 against you and it’s a whole lot harder to scheme to stop 2 freak TEs than 1.
I wonder if they’ll try to design plays to exploit this with the new kid. I hope that’s the intent… not drafting Winslow’s replacement.
I agree. Even Andre Fluellen is a good pick. so far, it looks like the Lions aren’t doing so bad here. I’m not blown away or ultra impressed, but there don’t seem to be any blunders.
My quarterback man crush is still on the board, though.
ETA: Ellis, you’ll like Manningham. Runs god routes, good hands, good game speed, too. Shows up in big games, at least on the collegiate level.
As we’re coming up on the latter rounds, here’s the rest of my guys that I think are worth flyers for the Pack:
Jack Ikegwuonu, CB, Wisconsin – Fuck, while I was figuring out this post, he was selected. Fuck.
Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State
Tim Hightower, RB, Richmond
Drew Radovich, OT/OG, USC
Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest
Roy Schuening, G, Oregon State.
Larry Grant, OLB, Ohio State
Everything has gone according to plan. KFS will beat out Tatum Bell for the starting job in about a week of camp, and LOUNE will be delighting in his new star tailback and biting his nails anxiously as he reviews the “Rename LOUNE!” thread.
McFadden will average 6 yards per carry but only carry 150 times with the Raiders’ ridiculously crowded halfback depth chart - maybe they can figure out a way to run a five-back base offense.
Mendenhall will be a change of pace back, no more- which is all he’s good for anyway.
