This show is circling the bowl. What a dreary exercise that was. The films this week ranged from uninspired to poor to unwatchable.
The janitor film was the least offensive. It was safe and predictable but it least it avoided being obnoxious and it had a little bit of a heart.
Slut-mom wasn’t good and was mildly offensive but it wasn’t as awful as most of the others.
The Cupid thing was trite and poorly acted.
The Marty Martin trailer was a ridiculous display of self-impressed style over substance and Marty Martin needs a punch in the balls. He reminds me of guitarists I used to see in my band days who could play harmonic scales really fast but couldn’t actually play a whole song. Marty is an insufferably arrogant tool who is nowhere near as talented as he thinks he is.
Having said that, Kenny’s film was the worst. An incomprehensible, incoherent, incompetent mess. The dude has no idea what he’s doing. He’s not “abstract” or “non-linear” or “expressionistic,” he’s just untalented and unskilled. He’s not Jackson Pollack, he just can’t draw.
This show keeps getting worse every week and I don’t see how it can sustain itslf with this current format. Kicking one person a week is not enough and waiting a week for the results doesn’t work either. I couldn’t remember what anybody from last week had directed anymore.
This show also needs a Simon. Badly. Simon Cowell would have cut a contestant off at the knees for acting the way Marty Martin acted tonight. This show desperately needs a judge who will tell them a POS is a POS and call a douche a douche.
I put the over under on this show at about two more weeks. as a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled the feeding tube this week.
I pretty much agree with everything you’ve said. I thought their first films were a lot better than this round, but that’s not saying much. I know they had time constraints with making this round of films, but I am surprised by how unimaginative the writing is.
The only reason I’m tuning in next week is to see if the hostess will continue to show more and more cleavage each new episode.
Yeah, I’m hoping for a dildo show if the program lasts its full run.
Damndest thing – my six-year-old loves this show. We let him stay up to watch the first two movies, and he was really disappointed that he couldn’t see the rest. (Lucky that Slut Mom was the third movie.)
If these are really the best young filmmakers they could find, it makes you wonder about the crap they rejected. I think so far I have seen exactly two filmmakers I think have strong potential, the guy who did the musical last week and Zach the special effects wiz, although I will be interested to seeee if he can make a movie that has bit more story and a lot less “Gee Wiz”.
I thought it was funny that they gave the hostess a microphone at the beginning, which I figured was to keep her from making those crazy hand gestures that are so distracting.
I keep watching but I don’t like it, that’s the problem with the summer when there is nothing else on.
I recorded this show last night and then just zipped through it to watch the films.
They all absolutely sucked.
I guess they all have some merit on filming a decent shot and editing it but they all have zero talent at coming up with and telling a creative short story.
What was the idea of the first film? Janitor is given the cold shoulder at the office, he plans revenge by waxing a floor, hilarity ensues when coworkers rush in for free burgers and slip & slide on the floor. Is that even remotely funny or creative?
Beeline? Kid wants a PS3, mom says no, kid asks her an uncomfortable question about sex, she panics and attempts to cover her tracks, kid asks again about PS3, mom so relieved it wasn’t about sex she says okay to PS3. A long and drawn out film to get to a punchline that isn’t even funny.
Cupid? Geek is on a date and needs cupids help, but alas he doesn’t need help cause the gal is a geek too. You a regular M.Night Shamalan. Again, a long drawn out film for a lame punchline.
Dance with the Devil? What was this? A trailer for the next direct to DVD Steven Segal film? Laughable. Oh, and how original, a close up of the bad guys mouth talking on a phone  .
The Edge of Abstract Sanity (or whatever crap name that was). Came off as nothing more than a PSA for depression. I was waiting for the “get help now” message to come up at the end along with an 800 number.
Maybe these folks could be a director on a film somebody else already wrote but as for coming up with original material they all suck.
The only bit of enjoyment I got from this week’s entries was when I realized that I was able to follow the hapless geek’s conversation: “Warp, that’s Star Trek. Trans-warp was Voyager. Slipstream was Farscape*.” And the girl’s thrill at getting her elf fighter to level 30 was understandable to any MMOG player.
And I’m wondering something: during the playing of the movies, are they including the audience audio? When “Polished” was going, I had a bit of a disconnect hearing “Awww…” (when the janitor got dissed by his coworkers) and laughter during the build-up to the punchline. At first, I thought that was in the movie’s audio track, which seemed off (and overly manipulative).
I’ll probably watch the last batch of movies next week (I’m interested in seeing what the FX whiz kid will put up), but I’m rapidly losing interest.
Which I just now realize was wrong, Farscape’s FTL was starburst (at least for Leviathons). Slipstream is Andromeda, I think.
[…standing ovation for the OP…] Dio, I agree with every word. The only thing I would add is that if these really are the filmmakers of the future, then movies are going to suck. I suspect, however, that the really great young ones have already been spotted, and are either apprenticing on real sets.
This show has been getting more and more disappointing every week… So they have judges who make comments and rate the horrid movies, but it doesn’t matter, because the public gets the final say.
I absolutely detest Marty Martin and his pretentious trailers, but have no doubt that he’ll make it through… I just wish they’d kicked him off instead of the other self-centred director he fought with the whole second episode. I hated them both, but I now realize I hate Marty more…
The “depression in the snow/water/sky” video was about what I expected from Mr. Taxi. **He’s ** one of the best?
I’m going to keep tuning in just to see those two get booted out at some point.
The worst part is that we still have to put up with the hand model telling us that we’ll find out who gets cut next week “Right after this”… Ughhh.
