On this date in the MMP

I moved here so I wouldn’t have to put up with extreme heat, and it’s slated to be 95 here. Glares balefully out window I plan to do my sloth impression. I’ll splurge and order in something for dinner. I’m not going near a stove or microwave today. A cool bath may happen later.

thel, hope the mouth pain turns out to be from a minor, easily-fixed, inexpensive issue.

And I will throw this out there: dentists make, on average, more than MDs do. The average general dentist nets over $180,000 a year. Dental specialists make much more.

dot, for routine care, cleaning, and fillings, check into whether dental therapists are licensed in your area. They’re basically dental hygienists who can also fill cavities and who operate independently. They’re often cheaper than going to a dentist.

I took a nap, I wish it had been longer.

The lawn guy was super busy today, he needs a secretary, a scheduler, and more help.
I’m just as glad he couldn’t make it.
I think he bites off more than he can chew, then has to run around putting out fires.

I understand though, when you are self-employed you are afraid to turn down irk.
I was hoping he could start on my fence this week, but it will probably have to wait until the weekend,

Ripple is already bugging me to go to the park. If we do go, and that is a big IF, it won’t be until closer to 4 when Lucy goes.
MetalMouse, there are days I need a scorecard.

Boo, if you ever visited me, you would be wrangling dogs, not kids. One of them is 3, both of them can be brats.

My life is not really eventful, the highlight of my day is going to the dog park.
Then it’s home, breakfast, houseirk, irk, lunch, houseirk or shower, nap or dog park, dinner, irk, bed.
Sometimes I sit out front and talk to the neighbor. Or call up a friend.

The dogs are being a bit wild, so we’ll probably go to the dog park.
Were they will sit and do nothing until it’s time to come home.

The store didn’t have cubes steak so beef tips with rice and onion gravy, squish and green beans are in works. We shall eat early today and scrounge later if needed.

I have a Dr appt in the morning. I messed around and let my cholesterol pills run out with no refill. I am supposed to do fasting blood work but the last time I went without my pills for a week the doctor said no sense in doing the blood work because it would show high cholesterol since I was off the pills for a week. Probably be the same this time.

Our rain never did materialize dammit.

Have a great rest of the day all!

The Princess decided it’s “mess with Mom’s mind” day today. She was unfindable for several hours, leading me to worry she’d somehow gotten out of the apartment and gotten lost (she does have a chip, but still…)

All the normal kitty-baiting tactics, such as shaking the treat container or playing ringtones on my phone or videos of meowing cats on YouTube, failed to flush her out. She has resurfaced, in an area I’m SURE I checked at least twice during her “absence”. Little brat.

SSRat
I think I would have asked for a fresh glass of water …if mine had three rolls in it.

One of mine, Tikva, does this. I’m convinced they have the power to slip into other dimensions and then just materialize back in this one when mom is at her wits’ end. Double ditto on the bolded part.

One cat group I participate in (formerly on Usenet, moved to Facebook) calls this the “bastard cat trick”, or BCT. I’m trying to convince Allie that I don’t need the extra stress this week, since I’m having hand/arm pain that’s making life more difficult than it needs to be, plus prep for DH’s latest medical misadventure.

The sun is shining brightly and it was a bit warm at the park.
Also pretty crowded, at one point there was about 20 dogs there.
Most of them hung out at the pavilion, and when you get that many dogs gathered in the same area, along with a bunch of kids, there is bound to be some growling.
Echo behaved though. She growled at one of the presa canario puppies, and both of us reached for them, but they took off playing. She growled at the pit puppy, it scared the pit’s owner, but Echo was playing, and they took off across the park. Then the husky growled at her, she growled back, but they settled it on there own before anybody could get to them.
Whatever was going on with her before, she seems to have settled down.
After I spent money on a trainer.

Taz is another one for disappearing, scaring the crap out of me. He doesn’t like that he’s an indoor cat, and he’ll try his damnedest to get out. Everyone here knows that, but they’re not always attentive when holding doors open. In fact, he got out yesterday, but daughter was right there and she grabbed him about 3’ outside the garage.

One of his favorite hiding places is on FCD’s side of the bed in the hollow between his 2 body pillows. But we’ve been keeping our room closed. So maybe he hides in Roxy’s room? Who knows - he always resurfaces.

Daughter got home after we’d finished supper - she was at her school helping set up their network - helping to pull cables and such. She’ll be doing it again on Tues evening, so I’ll get to wrangle Roxy again. But for now, I can chill. Well, after I load the dishwasher.

It’s finally stopped raining, but I don’t think I’ll walk. I need to relax.

Nikki occasionally does the “materializing out of thin air” trick too, and she’s an elderly, rotund little thing with zero penchant for jumping or climbing. (My Other Shoe referred to her as a “four on the floor” cat.) But damn if she can’t casually stroll across the middle of the floor, in a small room, with the door closed, etc.

She missed the “cancel gravity” trick some cats have, but …

… I may have met someone who can.

Mumpers, I fell in love today.

I stopped at PetCo and they have a few kitties for adoption and among the adorable mewling kittens and smushy longhair, was a young male, polydactyl (those feeeet!) with an interesting black-on-black striped coat. A black panther at first glance, but when the light hits him he’s faintly tabby.

And huge mittens on both front feet.

I did just move to the “Mitten” state…

I emailed the adoption agency to ask for details. Will have to have a long chat with Nikki tonight.

Meanwhile, I’m letting IHOP cater to me, while I recover from teh cuteness.

Kinda miss Waffle House - when I asked for hash browns “dark” they played no games putting an extra brown on them. Anywhere else, asking for dark or well-cooked hash browns seems like a challenge for the line cook to sear them for the shortest possible amount of time.

As long as they don’t mind me being a brat occasionally, we’ll do fine. Perhaps the dogs and I could work out a bratty rotation. I have seniority after all.

And, Seanette’s kitty, that is very mean to do to the help, worrying them like that. Next time wait til she has to be somewhere and then run and hide. Her anguished cries are more entertaining than just calling your name.

One of my strictly indoor cats got out yesterday and my yard guy chased her down for me, which she thought was great fun. Fortunately it was the pudgy one so she was slower.

Purple horseshoe I vote yes on the black on black tabby kitten. More the merrier. I never thought I had too many kitties but definitely knew when I had too few. Eagerly awaiting adoption news.

My housemate used to be a cook at Village Inn (our version of IHOP). She makes the best hash browns ever! Just the way I like them-she eats her hash browns dark like you. I like to get my hash brown crunch from salt. Don’t tell my dr.

Storming, windy, thunder and lightning here. Scary considering the derecho that passed so nearby 6 nights ago.

Boo

nettie, a former cow-orker of mine used to swear that cats had an invisible button. I would have to agree. I usually know where Nelson is when he disappears (he’s close to cat size, so many of the same places would apply): he’s under the side of the bed by the closet.

Not a whole lot of excitement at CasaRoja today. I have a volunteer marigold in my lavender pot. I used that pot for marigolds last year, so it’s not surprising. I got a tank top from Land’s End (none of the colors I liked at Duluth Trader’s came in my size. They tended toward just XXS and 4X, neither of which fit). This is the first order from LE and I like the fit, so I’ll order a couple more.

I made baked cod topped with lime juice, oregano, a little Old Bay and slices of onion and tomatoes on each piece. I fixed a zucchini skillet to go with.

A Waffle House up near Dallas had a sandwich I came to love: fried egg and bacon on raisin toast. Yum.

I had cheese ravioli with marinara and some cherries. Feeling excruciatingly sad and lonely this afternoon.

It used to be a joke when we’d stop at a Waffle House after a night out (I think you need to be able to blow a 1.2 to even enter the one we used to hang out at) by ordering raisin toast with our eggs. 95% of the time, we got white toast. :stuck_out_tongue:

Damn. I don’t think misery loves company, but I’ve been bored and lonely all day. My son couldn’t call due to his daily migraine. My daughter is camping with her husband. Sending you big, friendly, COVID-free hugs and much sympathy.

Thanks. It’s been a very tough day. Not over yet. :hugs:

We were at the IHOP a few miles up from the Waffle House at 0230, when two guys and a girl got tossed for a screaming argument. As the manager shoved them out, an old dude in the back shouted “Y’ALL CALM DOWN, THIS AIN’T THE WAFFLE HOUSE!”

I thoroughly LOL’d.
