On this date in the MMP

The flavoured Diet-Rites are good. Don’t think anyone around here sells them, though.

I would probably really go for those. My google says that around me Target, Wal Mart and Dollar General have Diet Rite. Any of those around you?

I like Shasta diet pops too, but those are even harder to find.

See, I can talk all day about my pop. Gotta have those bubbles every day.

I start my day with a diet Coke, and from then on, it’s water, or the rare caffeine-free soda. When it’s cold out, I might have some hot tea, but mostly, I drink ice water.

Supper was good and overly filling, mostly because the damned potato chips sat in front of me. I don’t usually like them all that much, but this evening, I couldn’t get enough. The Amish corn was really good, and nary a worm in any of the 18 ears! That’s a record!! There’s enough pulled poke and buns left over for lunch tomorrow.

For now, the dishwasher is swishing away, FCD has gone back out to his office, and Daughter et. al. are in the basement, so the upstairs is all mine… well, me, and Higgs, and Taz, and Ziva…

Evening all. House has been swept and dusted, but I may regret not mowing the lawn today, the chances for rain the next two days are high, so it might be the weekend again before I can get to it (not quite jungle-length yet, but it’s getting there…). Dinner will be late, I snacked this afternoon so am not particularly hungry at the moment.

I am and probably always will be a Pepsi drinker, albeit I won’t turn down a Coke or other cola concoction.

Boo, glad family is OK, been without power myself (tornado years ago) and it is…different.

Boo, herald, I’d tell you two to get a room, but apparently you already have one…

FCM, yeah, TAB is still around, just very hard to find. Never drank it, but my Dad (who was diabetic) did.

susan, best of wishes for Cat Z.

Ok, just checked and no mail today. So readin’ and internettin’ (and eatin’ dinner when I’m ready) are this evening’s agenda. All y’all take care.

Washed and shined the family truckster today. It’s become quite the piggy sitting in the driveway all the time. I haven’t even gone through a tank of gas since March.

Making a batch of spaghetti with garlice, lemon and shrimp for the neighbor across the street. She went in for knee surgery today, so we’re making dinner for her and her sister, who I affectionately refer to as “the coo-coo Pigeon Sisters”. Tomorrow it’s our week to do our bi-weekly meal trade with our other neighbor. They get pierogi this week. Last week they made cod with caper sauce.

Hi everyone. I have only read some but thanks for the advice. My former boss used to ask me for bullet points which I had no trouble providing. I have never had anything except the highest outstanding but I have a feeling this guy will be one of those that refuses to do that. He seems so perfect. Anyway, he signed off on my employees evals and really did not even read them. He may have read them when I left.

I told him I was struggling with writing my own and that I had not even been there a great deal of time. I will do it but I don’t have to like it. He said he would get input from the former acting director. Also the CO shot down his plan to open us week after next. There was a virtual town hall meeting last night and the skipper answered questions and of course some one asked when our dept would open. He said he was going to open low risk facilities first like the fitness center, auto skills center and pool for active duty only. Later he will open medium risk facilities like mine ( Tickets & Travel ) later and since there is still a stop movement order and his sailors and pilots are in a “bubble” he does not want me selling even local stuff like fishing, snorkeling, sunset cruises etc.

He does not want his people out and about and even though 99% of my customers are retirees from out of town, his main, and seems only focus, is his AD. It may be another month or more. I am in a use or lose position so I will work some and if need be I will use some annual leave even though no one has said we are not still under pandemic pay. What a mess. Still hard to wrap my head around the whole thing.

Came home to find hubs and his young helper hooking up a different TV. Our living room one died a few days ago. Still had volume but no picture. Some one gave us that one and now have given us another one. They did not have the correct screws to mount it today but it’s working propped up on the couch. I have called for delivery from the good place. Now off to read the MMP. I will be back

Me too. My bro (Naperville, IL) has a camper so he can make-do fairly well, small generator and all, but my sister (Cedar Rapids, IA) had all of her camping stuff in the big garage (husband and sons do love their car and trucks…) and with the power out couldn’t get the door up. They have their huge collection of vintage oil lamps in the house which they could have used for light but nary a match within reach-all in the garage with the camping stuff. The whole city is a disaster area. Her BIL is bringing down ice and groceries from more than a 100 miles away. But only one serious injury in the whole area so that is good. She’s reader and puzzle doer so she has been sitting by the window in the sunlight and doing that.

All Mumpers and hangers on, two and four legged, will be invited. Sheesh, here Heraldand I are, working our fingers to the bone to plan the annual, semi-annual, whenever-the-hell-we-can-finally-leave-our-houses Mumpers gathering and you’re ragging us. We’ll assign you the top bunk and the lumpiest mattress, so watch out.

We have Walmart and Target, but I’ve never noticed Diet-Rite at either. Walmart quit carrying RC – my daughter’s favourite cola (fortunately the commissary still has it) – but on the other hand they do still have that most wonderful of sodas, Vernor’s.

Ahhh, yes. Vernors. Sigh. It’s been awhile.

Was just reading that there is a shortage of Dr. Pepper in Texas. Those Texans do love their Dr. Pepper and it must be frustrating to be locked down without your favorite cold beverage. Have a son in San Antonio but he’s strictly a Coke and Pepsi guy. Maybe we need to organize a Dr. Pepper airlift to the Lone Star state.

Tab. Now that’s a blast from the past. I haven’t seen it in decades. Nasty stuff. I prefer diet Dr. Pepper but I also like the small 8 oz regular coke. I drink iced tea the rest of the day. I don’t make coffee at home partially cause hubs drinks decaf and I’m not drinking that so I keep those little Coke’s around or Red Bull for my caffeine. I will get a monster headache if I skip a full day without caffeine and it’s hard to get rid of it. At irk I do make and drink coffee or my girl will have it ready for me when I arrive.

Supper is et and there are no dishes so win-win. I have gotten into the habit of staying awake until 2 or 3 am reading and then feeling bad since I don’t get enough sleep. I may have had three hours total last night so I am about to sleep with Mel and hope I can be asleep by 10-11 ish. I shall go back to irk for a while tomorrow. I need to spend some time purging my office and storage room of old files so even though it should be shredded some of it will end up in the dumpster.

Is that storm damage from that unpronounceable hurricane? I am not up to date on the news since the TV was out even though there is one in the bedroom that never gets used. And BBBoo we are now FB friends.

That reminds me, I got good news about the Boondock Kittens: they’re getting “tutored” on August 26. Two more weeks and then they might calm down a wee tiny bit.

Bad news is, Irish Dad got bit by a copperhead yesterday. Last I heard he was at the hospital waiting for his second blood test to come back to see if he needed antivenom. That was due at 10:00 last night.

I had my monthly one-on-one with my supervisor today. It went well. I like my current supervisors because they were promoted up from the ranks so they know the kind of bs we have to put up with.

swampy, refresh my memory: do Whiskeypalians have holy water fonts at the doors? I have to wonder how the RC church is handling that.

sari, Nelson begins that whine once we turn at the stoplight to go to the dog park. When we turn into the drive, it’s two barks. :stuck_out_tongue:

boo, once upon a time, I was a pretty good campfire cook, so I would volunteer for chef duty if someone else volunteers for KP.

I quit drinking most soda a few years back. Coffee and iced tea are my caffeinated beverages of choice and selzer with a squeeze of some kind of citrus for the fizzy stuff.

This afternoon’s commute was another where I wore sunglasses but had the windshield wipers going. It did cool things down a little.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The storm I’ve been posting about is a ‘derecho’. Sustained high mph winds. Started in eastern Nebraska, tore through Iowa into Illinois Sunday night into Monday.

This is pretty scary. Hope he gets over it in good time.

I haven’t left for my walk yet. Decided to sort through paperwork on my desk, then the phone rang, and now my cell is dead. Waiting for it to recharge.

I don’t know what it is in cola that gives me migraines. Coffee doesn’t. Black tea does. Go figure.

Does anyone else remember when Dr. Pepper used to advertise “Try it hot!” in the winter? The ads featured a steaming mug of Dr. Pepper with a lemon slice floating in it. The rest of the ads urged us to drink it (cold) as a pick-me-up at “ten, two, and four!” The bottles had a little clock on them to remind us.

Doesn’t WalMart sell a Sam’s Choice version called Dr. Thunder or something? Since flat Dr. Pepper tastes like prune juice, I always thought the “Thunder” part was a poor choice of words.

Never thought of it but you’re right! And it does taste like prune juice. There is also Mr. Pibb as another imposter and a Dr. Shasta wanna be. I’m old enough to remember the ‘drink it hot’ and pick-me-up at 10,2 and 4 also. Never could convince the adults around me though that I needed any more revving up.

When’s the party??? That’s only 117 miles (2 hours) away from me (I’m in Pittsburgh), and on my route to Knoebels. It’s just past Dubois - heck, I’ve been in the men’s room at Dubois Harley-Davidson.

And would you care to tell us what you were doing in there?

Had kid who went to medical school at Pitt in Pittsburgh. He really liked living there. He’s now in Ann Arbor so how about we keep thinking in the same general area, without getting out of reach of our beloved southern Mumpers. Selfish of me, I know. Anything within one long day driving or two half days I can probably pull off. My abode is about two miles off of I80. I will go about anywhere, especially if I haven’t been there before.

I just knew someone would ask.

Dubois H-D claims to be the most unique H-D dealership. The whole interior is set up like a town, with a paved road down the middle. The movie theater marquee sign is the entrance to the parts dept., stores on the side of the street sell H-D merchandise, etc.

Kopek wanted me to see the famous urinal so he made sure it was empty and took me in. You enter the men’s room through an outhouse, and the urinal has a scene painted on the wall in front of it. There’s a motorcycle handlebar on the top of it so you can hold on and pretend you’re cruising down the road (probably not the best idea but I don’t have to clean it!). You then pull in the clutch lever to flush.

And yah should have guessed it would be me.
