On this day in the MMP

I was cold and tired last night, so I went to bed early, and somehow I STILL slept late. So weird.

Daughter texted me that her sister-in-law–the one who stayed the night here a couple weeks ago–got the job in my city. I’m very happy for her, sad for my daughter and her hubs, who’ll miss SIL and her partner and their rent check every month. When the SIL was here, she was checking into apartments, and there aren’t any within driving distance, so I said they could stay with me while looking. I’ve never met her SO, but I hear they’re nice. (Uses they/them pronouns, which is hard to remember after correcting a zillion essays for pronoun agreement, but I do try.)

I wish now I’d sent my friend flowers, as some of you suggested, but I’d already sent something else, a gift basket of spa products in an old-fashioned bathtub container. She sent me spa products once, so hopefully shoe’s theory still holds.

I’m heading to the gym today. This afternoon I’m going to a dog park with Dogkins and her person. Oh, and my license expires in. I’ll need to go in to renew and am worried* about flunking the eye test, though now that I have a passport, I don’t have to do the Real ID rigamarole.

*Never put off until tomorrow what you can worry about today. That’s my motto.

VanGo, how far do you live from your workshop?

Red, ouch on the bone spur. You normally get up at 2 a.m.?! Holy moly.

Quietly, hope you’re enjoying your first day of Christmas. Good for you for outsmarting TPTB. Will the teachers actually wait until 3:45? At my school, they’d have been leaking out the exits by noon.

Dicey, so you didn’t have to take a written or driving test when you moved there? Also, is chili popular over there? Are there population local dishes you don’t make?

Taters, so ridiculous TPTB have you doing kindergarten cleanup. I hope you get another job soon.

I got a chuckle out of the visual. Hope you the neighbor’s roofing goes fast.

Afternoon everyone. Finally made it to the end of the week…I guess. I mean, I’m still heartbroken, plus school is busy due to being close to Christmas Break, so great.

Bumba, I’m incredibly sorry for your loss.
:people_hugging:

Saw the knee person today. After x-rays, she took some fluid out of both knees, then shot me up with steroids. Hopefully this will last a goodly amount of time. She also gave me the business card of a thumb thpethialitht, so perhaps I can get some relief there as well.

cookie Oh, the dreaded “water on the knee” I’ve had that, and it feels so much better when it’s gone. I’ve torn an ACL and meniscus in one knee and meniscus in the other. Best of luck with the progress.

nellie It’s roughly a 18 mile trip from home to the shop. If there wasn’t a lake in the way it’d be more like 3. Maybe I should get an ultralight plane.

Back from the oral surgery. The wisdom tooth I thought I didn’t have had not emerged, so the doc had to excavate to get it out. My jaw is still numb, but it’s wearing off. Lips and chin are quite numb. I’m told I’m going to be sore. I can pick up some Percocet, antibiotics, and some sort of steroid in a couple of hours. I took three of the Ibuprofen they gave me, about a half-hour ago.

California driver’s licenses are a 5-year renewal. DH had to go in in person because his last couple of renewals were online. He decided he might as well do the RealID upgrade while he was there. I’ll need to deal with all this next summer, and I’m concerned about answering the medical questions. Yes, my doctor has been informed this is coming up so she and I can figure out handling it. Hopefully, DMV will think I’m still OK to drive. I need to do RealID this time myself. I do know that unless my vision changes radically between times I’m OK on what eye exam they’ll be giving (tried it myself when DH was there to renew). When I moved to California, I didn’t have to test, just surrender my still-good Oregon license. I’d have to ask DH when the last time is he had to do any test other than vision. I’m sure it was before we met, since I don’t recall him doing so any time in our acquaintance. That puts it 1994 or before, and he turned 60 last month.

I’m about to make four kitties unhappy, but vacuuming needs to happen at some point. Don’t want to horrify nice kitty foster lady :). I don’t know if I’ll be back from getting tires rotated by the time she plans to be here, but DH can deal with handoff, and I’ve donated to the shelter to cover spays for the girls. I will miss them, but Allie and Buddy definitely won’t. Little Miss is currently on the floor, cuddled up to my desk chair’s wheels, and Tiny is in the cat carrier, also sleeping. Allie’s probably in the headboard, and Buddy’s either on it or under it.

Howdy Y’all! I did the things and then proceeded to make sure I got my minimum daily requirement of sloth in, so all is well. Majik intartoobz pizza and sallit got et. It’s been a pretty but cooler than normal day in south Jawja, but some cooler weather is necessary to keep things right in this world, I suppose.

Nettie apparently I missed this earlier, but yay for foster placement for the kitties!

VanGo that sounds like a good plan of the day. Hope it was successful.

Beck glad you dropped by. It’s been a while. Hope you thaw out soonest.

Die chili 'n cornbread are wonderful on a cold night. Enjoy!

Nellie if she’s in to spa products, which I gather she is, then your friend will greatly appreciate the gift.

FlyBoy hope you are less achy/sore soonest.

FCD finally got home just before 7. His bro may be released Tues or Weds. Fingers crossed.

I’m going to get Roxy in the morning, take her to the marine museum, then to lunch, then back here for play. The weather should be decent. Hope I sleep tonight.

Well… I’m miserable.

I took a Percocet 30 minutes ago. I think it’s starting to work.

I made myself a scrambled egg, because I was very hungry. Now I’m only hungry.

I had SO much fun at the dog park! All the dogs were good, and a few kept coming to me for scritches. I thought, “How could anybody be unhappy at a dog park?” Then I thought of Barky and Humpy. Oh.That’s how.

Oh, here’s a drivers license story for you. When the now-ex and I moved from MA to MT, we lived in faculty housing and befriended our newbie neighbors on either side. ALL of us women had to take a driving test. None of the men did.

FCM, I’ve been thinking it was Saturday all day, too. Why is that?

GodBod, when do you get out for winter break? Does first semester end after Christmas or before? Hope you get to do some fun stuff this weekend to take your mind off the heartbreak.

Flyboy, ouch. I’d skip the no-carb diet for now and chow down on mashed potatoes, chocolate pudding, and ice cream.

swampy, I think she’s into spa products. She’s sent them to me before. I’m really not into that stuff, but I appreciated the thought, so hopefully she will, too.

Evening all. Ended up not leaving the house, so no gym today. Will be doing indoor soccer again tomorrow for 5-6 hours, so hopefully that will make up for today’s sloth. Also ate a Bowl O’Sallit for dinner with Fat free Ranch instead of a Double Quarter Pounder with fries, so the sloth today will hopefully not hurt the waistline as much.

nellie, hope the semi-relatives are as nice as they seem and that they can find a nice place soon. Wish I had a friend to take me to the dog park, showing up there without a dog would probably be frowned upon…

Flyboy, think my brother had one of those unemerged wisdom teeth, hopefully in about 24 hours it’ll settle down.

Cookie, what’s a

…I figure it’s a therapist, but these days one never knows…

FCM, hope FCD can get a day or two without any drama and can rest up.

Taters, hope you get out of that place before they finally get on your last nerve…

OK, need to check a couple things and then do some reading and start on theTriple Sudoku before bedtime. All y’all take care.

Specialist, substituting “th” for “s”.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Feel better, Flyboy

Well, he had about an hour before his mom called… FIL has gone off the deep end again - no clue when my poor sweetie will get home.

I’m off to read in bed and see if he gets home before I fall asleep.

metal mouse, should you get up this way again, you can tag along with Nelson and me to the dog park. We stick to the small dog side, given his penchant for getting in a big dog’s face and barking (one of these days, he’ll get his little tail kicked for that kind of thing).

Chores are all done and I’m surfing before bed. See y’all tomorrow.

I hope you can get to sleep soon. You will feel much better in the morning unless you get infected, which I am sure will not happen.

I am so shocked! NOT!

The best thing about spa products is that even if you can’t use them for whatever reason, they can be re-gifted to someone who can.

I used to be one of those kitty foster folks. It takes a lot to horrify them. You did a Very Good Thing and deserve much praise.

SISTER!!!

I’m worried about my Secret Santa because I think he is having a mental health crisis. I’m concerned for him AND I’m worried that he’s going to worry and fret about not being able to send my package which will make his issues even worse. I’ve known a couple of bi-polar people who would totally focus on something silly like that to the exclusion of everything else when they were down.

I’m great at worrying about things I have just made up in my mind, LOL! (He seriously has gone dark and I’m not the only one worried about him.)

It’s been pretty cold here, I’ve had to start bringing the hummer feeder in at night and pouring tap hot water into the bird bath in the morning. The snow is almost melted off, but the back porch steps are covered with ice and I’m grumbly that I didn’t sweep the snow off when it happened.

If they are still icy in the morning, I’m going to take my blow drier to them. It’s just a small area and all I need to do is loosen the ice enough to break off. I could have totally avoided this and I have some worries that I will be scolded about my slothing skills. If you do the thing that has to be done when it needs to be done, it allows more sloth time later.

For those who were breathlessly awaiting my investment plans…I’ve pulled 5G out of the stock market to put into series I savings bonds. How’s that for high-powered investing?

Or not, all our 7 lb. cat has to do is look at GG through the bars to send GG skittering off. We don’t think either of them can see the size difference, it’s all about their confidence levels.

I think so. Little Miss really is tiny for a cat old enough to have a kitten, and 13-lb Buddy, who’s lived as a stray and is known to have plenty of experience getting into fights, is TERRIFIED of her. She’ll screech and run at him all puffed up and he turns and flees to under the bed. I keep telling her that either he or Allie is quite large enough to kick her furry tail (she’s half the size of either), she doesn’t care.

Most cats don’t fight to the death, they fight to drive their enemy away.

Male cats are programed to kill kittens that are not their own. I think that being fixed tones that instinct down, but Little Miss doesn’t know that and as a mama is willing to fight to the death to save her kitten. Buddy knows this and is smart enough to know when to vacate the area.

When will Little Miss and Tiny go to their foster home?

Tomorrow morning.

I do think the threat to kittens from male cats is kind of variable. I grew up with lots of cats, we had some males who’d just ignore kittens, regardless of paternity, and one who was actually a very loving stepdaddy. He’d groom them, play with them, teach them catting skills, etc. About the only thing he didn’t do by way of kitten care was nursing them :).

Buddy has had unpleasant commentary about the visitors (Allie’s just kind of freaked out, I think she’s afraid of kittens), but the only aggressive behavior has come from Little Miss.

Oh, I totally agree and I’ve had some great stepdaddy cats as well. However, Little Miss doesn’t know that and Tiny is her only surviving baby. It’s good of you to pay for the spays as well as putting in all the effort to find them a place in the adoption system. Those kitties aren’t able to understand how lucky they were when they found their way to you, but I do. You are a very kind person.

Just as a funny story, GG’s breeder told me that one of his queens loved kittens so much that when she didn’t have them, she would steal them from the mamas with kittens. The mamas with kittens were all like “thank you, bring them back at dinner time” and there was a constant back and forthing thing happening when it was time for the kittens to nurse.
