On this day in the MMP

And after adjusting the thermostat on the pellet stove, it’s burning just fine. Which is good - the house is chilly. Taz was yelling at me. And so it goes…

Good morning. I was also up at 3:00 am this morning. It’s going to be a loooong day.

It’s currently 36 degrees with an expected high of 42 and partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies all day.

There was some excitement in the neighborhood last night. My husband came downstairs from his VR room and noticed flashing blue lights in my cul-de-sac, driveway, and across the street. It’s a bit disconcerting to see a cop car parked in your driveway with lights on, especially if you didn’t call them, so my husband opened the door and asked what was going on. It seems some teenagers stole a car and went on a runner. They got two, but two others got away and were chased to our little neighborhood. My development consists of not even 20 houses, so you can damn sure bet I checked out my backyard and the neighbor’s backyard from my bonus room window. I didn’t see anybody. I went to bed two hours later, and the cops were still there and were having a long discussion with people in two vehicles (who turned out to be neighbors). I don’t know how long they were there, but they were gone when I got up at 3:00.

FCM, I’m glad you’re feeling better. I am hoping both you and FCD have a nice, quiet day. I’m sorry it started with an unpleasant task, but let’s hope that’s the worst part of the day.

JtC, I’m sorry about your mother. There aren’t words, especially as we watch them sort of disappear.

I have meetings upon meetings today, along with TWO town halls on the reorganization, which is effective this coming Sunday. On top of that, I’m being saddled with a big tasker which will arrive by COB today, and I need to have it done by COB tomorrow since I’m off Friday and we have an “office hours” meeting about the results of the tasker on Monday, which is my only working day next week. It’s too long to explain, but suffice it to say, the people in my position are cleaning up an HR mess, so one more jab to those affected by the reorganization. We were always the fix-it people, and it seems they can’t give us the tiniest of breaks. It’s not even our screw-up, but the project is “too big” for HR to fix, so we have to do it for them. Nothing new, but still annoying AF.

My daughter did not work yesterday. It’s not like they could take the kids to daycare anyway. Once car seats have been in an accident, you have to replace them. Their little truck will only hold one seat at a time, and Adam isn’t old enough for a booster car seat. My SiL was on the hunt for a replacement vehicle, but I’m guessing he wasn’t successful since my daughter didn’t mention anything about it yesterday.

Well, onward with the day. I hope you all have a pleasant day.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 54 Amurrkin out and rainy(ish) with a predicted high of < snerk > 69! < snerk > with rain off and on all day. TWPTB say there’s a good chance of rain/tstorm/apocalypse later this afternoon. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Sup shall be burgers 'n fixin’s and the rest of the N.O.T. sallit from last Sattidy’s soiree.

Nellie I had a wunnerful night’s sleep on the new mattress. It’s so comfy! It’s thicker than the old one, so when I sit on the side of the bed my feet don’t touch the floor.

MOOOOOOM DFW airport is an awful place, IMO. It my be safer to be outside than inside durin’ a tornado. Hope the furnace decides to behave itself.

Nettie so you have two new kitties now?

Lily sorry the wife and you got the plague. Hope both of you are better soonest.

Boo your crockpot dinner sounds nummy!

{{{JtC}}} it’s tough to see a parent goin’ downhill.

Taters yikes! Nuttin’ like a little excitement in da 'hood just before bedtime. Hope the big task goes smoothly. I know you don’t want to hear (read) this, but stuff like that (and I did indeed deal with stuff like that) makes me glad I am a retired drain on society.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and so much bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I do suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I don’t know how he’s managed it, butFCD us still neg. Hope it holds. He has to take his folks to the Dr today. At least e doesn’t have to drive to Baltimore.

The house is warming up. I need a shower. Such excitement…

I hope it’s a helpful doctor’s visit.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s -1c/29f out there with no predicted change although it was around -5 first thing this morning. Weather app says “It isn’t worth going outside today. You should fucking try again tomorrow” which is advice I shall ignore since I am going to the pub with friends tonight. I should have gone last Wednesday, but yannow…Ophelia.

nettie congrats on the two new kitties! I hope you manage to find homes for them eventually, but I also hope they are able to stay with you in the meantime where they are safe and warm.

Lily sorry to hear you both have plague, here’s hoping it’s mild and you get over it quickly.

JtC I am so sorry to hear about your mother, it is so hard to see them disappear before your eyes, having her write a letter for you is a lovely idea, you will be able to look back at it with the fondest of memories.

Taters I’m sorry work is still such a sh*tshow for you. Also sorry to hear about your daughter’s accident, but glad to read that she appears not to be too badly injured. Does her insurance cover her for being hit by an uninsured driver? Over here, you can build that into a policy for a small extra cost which as far as I’m concerned is definitely worth paying since we have so many young idiots on our roads.

Nothing exciting to report from over here today. Second day off this week so I have pottered around the house this morning, did an exercise class at home since I needed to wash my hair before going out tonight and it made sense to do the sweaty stuff first and get all nice and clean afterwards. No plans for this afternoon, I may spend it on the sofa with a book and a snuggly cat. Shadow likes to have his lap time with me during the day, and heads for 'im indoors in the evenings. Spreading his custom!

Downtown San Jose had a major power outage yesterday. It involved several blocks and most of the biggest office buildings. It went out about 10 a.m. and after an hour my company said we could leave and come back when the power came back on. I walked down 11 flights of stairs and drove out to go on errands and then had a leisurely lunch out. During lunch I got a text saying everyone could just go home for the day - PG&E didn’t know when they’d get everyone up and running. So I had a 3/4 day off.

I’m sure some genius in one of the many construction projects downtown chopped a major cable. All the businesses downtown are going to be up in arms today. I’m off to check the news to see if they have any info on just what happened.

Yes, we have the same thing; uninsured/underinsured motorist. The kids and my husband, and I carry full coverage even though our vehicles are paid off because of situations such as what happened with the kids. It’s ridiculous. In my state, driving without insurance is illegal, but then again, the knucklehead didn’t even have a driver’s license, so I guess the law didn’t matter to him.

Talked to my nephew in Anchorage. They’ve been buried by two back-to-back storms that dumped three feet of snow on the city. Another storm is due soon that will likely give them another foot. “Ah, but it’s Alaska”, you say? Well, yes, but Anchorage rarely gets that kind of snow in such a short period. As in almost never. And for a winter city, they are woefully unprepared for it. In the best of times, they’re barely able to keep up with street plowing, and usually just give up about half way through winter. Forget sidewalks. They’ve never invested in the equipment over the years for some weird reason.

Morning, everyone. It’s raining here; was raining all night last night.

The eye exam was…certainly something…I had to get my pupils dilated, so I couldn’t see much for an hour or two afterwards, which sucked. I’m all good now, but that really sucked to deal with.

We’ve sadly come to the conclusion that Little Miss and Tiny cannot become permanent household members, between lease restrictions and the level of distress from Allie and Buddy. Don’t worry, they’re NOT being chucked back out! They do get to stay for a little while, but we have GOT to find them a shelter or rescue placement, and the shelters in my area are apparently full.

Suggestions?

One thing I’ll say for our county Dept of Transportation - they’re aces about keeping the main roads clear, and really good with side streets, depending on the amount of snow that hits us. Not that we’re expecting any in the immediate future, but still, they do good work!

I’m showered and dressed, waiting for the gutter cleaners. They were supposed to come tomorrow, but the weather is turning to crap overnight, so he wanted to know if he can come today. um, DUH!!! And it’s not like I’m going anywhere. So that’s one more thing done… and one more bill.

I’d forgotten that FCD arranged for the marina to winterize our boat - THAT was an unexpected expense, on top of the vehicle registrations and last week’s truck repair. It’s like everyone found out we’re getting a decent COLA from Social Security and they all want their share. We may get caught up one day.

Some chores are done, which merits some recliner time.

I have no suggestions but I will happily donate to cover transportation costs if you find a place the next town over or wherever that you need to drive or Uber to. I hope that makes sense.

JtC. I’m sorry your heart is hurting. After my mom died I would dial her number to hear her voice on the answering machine.

Morning all. Woke up to rain and according to the Weather Wizards, that’s all I’m going to see all day. No great storming, just constant rain; would depress me if I hadn’t planned to be inside most if not all of the day anyway…

Seanette, no suggestions, but like wet one, I’ll help out on transportation costs if you find a more distant place that will take them.

JtC, most of us here are old enough to remember losing one or two of our parents; and many of them diminished in front of us, which added to the ache. {{{{ }}}} for you and her.

FCM, glad you are feeling some better, even with the bills. And stay warm.

Godbod, I have had my pupils dilated every visit I’ve ever made to the Eye Doc, they have gotten better over the years, I can now drive with sunglasses on a cloudy day after my appointment. Take a stronger pair of sunglasses with you next time. And your night rain has made it here now.

Cookie, outside of Buffalo, I don’t think any American city is ready for 3-4 feet of snow; hope nephew was able to stock up.

Taters, you and your group have the Curse of Competence; HR apparently doesn’t. Hang in there. And some excitement in the neighborhood! Wonder if the cops got them or not.

And boo fae, I also carry uninsured motorist coverage, it’s probably one of the cheapest options and most everyone here in the states (I think) carries it.

Lucky, so, some power-walking and a short workday…sounds like a win to me. Hope it
get fixed today.

BBBoo, Looked at a weather map, and it looks like if you’re East, South, or West of Omaha you’ll be fine, the precipitation is north of you. Be careful anyway.

OK, need to do the morning internettin’ and then plan for meal one of the day. Rain has picked up some just to encourage me to stay home.

Take care all.

Post an appeal on Facebook? Best case scenario it gets shared by your friends so others might see …

Craigslist is another option.

The wolves are howling.

I did this for a long time after Other Shoe died. I was heartbroken when his cell service was finally, eventually, after a long time, shut off.

… we got some rain overnight, and the Oracles call for more today.

Back to irk today, closing shift tonight. Hope my cough stays away; nobody wants a sickie hacking over their food.

Music is completely taking over my life. I’ve mainly been writing my folk/rock songs the past few months, but lately I’ve been working on a couple of instrumental pieces. Last Friday, I started on a fugue. On Saturday, I realized it was broken, so I spent all day working on it. I forgot to have breakfast. I burnt lunch and supper. Sunday night I had an idea for a tune and I could not get to sleep until I notated it down. Today I started working on it again, and it sounds pretty cool.

Who needs Science, when you can have music!?!?!

Oh, interesting; they’re predicting :snowflake: snow :snowflake: for the weekend.

I have a small load of laundry going; hopefully it’s dry in time, my favorite hoodie and my favorite work cardigan (it has pockets!) are in there.

I opened the side door for Monkey, but apparently damp, cold weather isn’t a kitty favorite. He opted instead to re-murder his favorite toy (a stuffed rat! Ha!) and then came a-beggin’ for me to toss him some treats so he could chase them.

I have a nifty microwaveable mug with a (supposedly) leak-proof lid, so leftover pot roast shall accompany me to work tonight.

Meanwhile I’m enjoying the birdie parade outside. Didn’t see Tom Turkey, but Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal are pecking around (the Mr. is making a racket!) and a pair of chickadees are swooping around and loudly announcing their name. Plus a wee little downy woodpecker and some other assorted sparrows.

Better than, say, heroin!

Having never had heroin I wouldn’t know … hmmm…

They’re calling for snow over the next few days here. I’m not looking forward to it. In the best of times, the county is pretty shit at keeping the roads clear, and there have been articles in the news about a shortage of plow drivers this season. Like we have only two thirds of the needed drivers.

shoe I think you’ve convinced me to do a pot roast. Or maybe roast some pot…

Now onward to the afternoon! Stay safe, y’all.

For all of you getting snow, be safe out there!
