Once again, I have profoundly altered Mrs. Tygr's life.

Y’d think that getting her pregnant would be enough, but no. This weekend I changed her life in a far deeper and more lasting manner.

I’d finally decided the time had come. I set her on the sofa. I took up a long coil of rope and tied her securely to the sofa. “Darling,” she said with a small patient smile. “I understand it’s been a while, but do you really think it’s wise to engage in this just a week before I’m due to give birth to your daughter?”

“Oh, hush,” I said. "Your fetal-induced, rafter-rattling snores have so altered my sleep habits that I’m currently left too exhausted to flog you properly anyway.

“No, I’ve realized that you’ve been put off for far too long, so I’m taking away all excuses. It’s time to introduce you to some good friends.”

And I pushed the tape into the VCR.

There they were. Cary Elwes. Robin Wright. Chris Sarandon. Mandy Patinkin. Christopher Guest. Peter Falk. Lil’ Freddie Savage. Andre the Giant. And all the others in their delightful glory.

She finally watched “The Princess Bride”.

She understands. She is one of us.

And all God’s children said, “Inconceivable.”

Good for you. (But, c’mon, were you really taking a risk here?)

My wife watched Enterprise with me this weekend. If she likes it, maybe I can get here to watch the other 600+ episodes of the various Star Trek series.

Tygr,

You did the right thing, but did she like it?

I can’t get my SO to grasp the beauty of certain movies, Monty Python comes to mind…but to even it out a bit, she digs watching Clint Eastwood flicks with me…

We must be One with the ROUSes. Welcome to the collective, Mrs. Tygr.

Mrs. F. doesn’t even like the Marx Brothers. (I’m so ashamed…)

I am ashamed to admit it, but I watched the Princess Bride. I tried to like the Princess Bride.

I didn’t. And I love all sorts of flicks! I even watched it again to see if I missed something!

:frowning:

The shame! If Andre the Giant were still alive, you’d kill him all over again!

And now she understands all the jokes in this thread?

And of course you did massage her feet during all this, right? Or were you too busy playing with Legos, hmmmm?

Oddly enough, in our bear family, I’m the one who watches Monty Python et al. Although, I had not had the pleasure of seeing ‘The Princess Bride’ until last summer, when VB insisted that we watch it one day. It was a little difficult in spots though, with VB and/or one of his kidlings quoting the movie constantly. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now, the little bears and I are devoted fans, and have been trying to obtain our own copy of it. Mr Bear hasn’t seen it yet, the poor man.
He can’t understand why we all start howling with laughter whenever we hear: “My name is Inego Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” or “The Fire Swamp!” or one of the many other quotes I often see on this board.

I’m hoping for a convert.
Good for you, Tygr. Now you can raise your kidlings together, the right way.

Cliffy and Kaotic N. - Mrs. T made sure I taped the premiere of Enterprise. She is the one who discovered Buffy and Farscape and Roswell. I discovered Witchblade, but she made sure we saw every episode.

She has gotten me to watch the cool TV shows. It’s my job to make sure she sees the cool movies. (Yes, she very much enjoyed Holy Grail when I tied her down and made her watch that.)

RTFirefly - Sadly, neither of us knows much of the Marxist philosophy. But I will say this:

Due to the overwhelming lack of evidence to the contrary, I believe I can firmly state that I have in my possession the only female in the Western Hemisphere who loves The Three Stooges. I mean she loves them like I love Looney Tunes.

screech-owl - To massage her feet properly, I’d have had to have my back to the movie and there are some sacrifices I’m just not willing to make.

But before you whack me again, lemme say that, yes, I DID massage her feet after it was over, just as I’ve been massaging her feet every night for the past week. It’s a very bizarre ordeal - take a latex glove and blow it up to the size of a volleyball. That’s almost exactly what her feet look like right now.

Tut tut, you can’t be trying too hard- it’s on DVD $14.99 at Best Buy, Wal-mart and K-mart. The last of which also seems to have it on VHS, or so I remember seeing not too long ago.

One thing that attracted me to Juliana (Mrs Zero), is that she is indeed a Science Fiction nut. She’s also very much into Trek. We taped the Enterprise premiere.

Thank you, elfkin. It’s more that I remember when I’m at home, or anywhere that’s not a store. And we don’t have a DVD player yet, so it will have to be VHS. I know, I know, don’t pass out from shock.

AAAaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!! You mean I missed the Enterprise premiere?!?!?!?! NNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

 :frowning: pout

It really sucks sometimes being the only confirmed Trekkie in the house, I tell ya.
