One cable router, two modems

Thanks to all who gave advice on hooking apple up to a pc dlink router. It never did work so in disgust I returned the iMac, only to come home and find out that my wife, shall we say, actually REALLY wanted the iMac to surt the net and stuff. So I am back having to repurchase the iMac, which I have not done yet. I do, however, haave a company called Geeks on Call coming in one week to a) get the iMac attached to the network, and b) appropriately boost signal strength. The I was thinking that since these guys charge $99 to come out, $120/hour after that, plus equipment that perhaps I would be better off actually just buying the Airport router ($199) and a couple of repeaters ($129 each). How would I work this? Get a splitter for the ethernet cable out of the cable modem or would I just plug the apple router into an empty ethernet port on my dlink router? Would the interfere with each other, RF wise?
