Henry’s Hat has been returned, shopping is complete, phone has been recovered, and Jersey Mike’s #3 resides in my belly. The Cosmic Crisp apples were huge and firm so they are the apple for this week. Weather is pretty but chilly, so outside work is contraindicated. Watching The History Guy on You Tube, then will probably pack and head to the gym.
Good evening everyone! The temp has stayed almost the same, it is up to 27F and the snow is still coming down. Nothing is sticking, I took a plastic container out an put it on the grass in the hopes of it getting snow filled (for the fuzzbutts, of course) but it doesn’t seem to be working.
This is always a very good thing.
Do you have an oil filled heater? I’ve never worried about leaving those on overnight, they don’t get hot enough to burn skin or fur. Would it maybe help to put plastic on your windows? I know might disturb Sadie’s view of the outside world, but it really helped back when we had single pane windows.
I hope it goes well and her recovery is fast and painless.
That’s a shame, flower shows always cheer people up after a long dark winter. I hope it isn’t impacted too much.
Hubs has confessed he really does miss our last yard. No grass to mow and I sprayed bleach/vinegar on anything that dared escape my beds.
They look very strange today. The brownie batter was well mixed and everything was incorporated and smooth, but one side of the pan raised over half an inch from the other side of the pan.
They still taste good and that’s the important part.
Coneflowers! I hadn’t even thought about them, thank you for the wonderful suggestion. I was thinking about dahlias but now I think I like your idea better!
I’m glad you had that option, it sounds pretty icky out there.
We re-installed a very popular exhibit today. Had to take care of a water leak, i.e. sand it back to raw fiberglass, re-epoxy, and reapply truck bed liner. Then fix the plumbing, all fun to do when the thing weighs several hundred pounds and is low to the floor. But it looks much nicer now and is not dripping, so that’s good.
S’posed to get down to around 10 tonight, but I think this’ll be the last stretch of cold nonsense for the year. (knock wood)
Howdy Y’all! Been a cool and breezy day here. We were glad to be inside and warm. The soup was excellent and so was the cornbread. We’ll have both again tomorrow. It will be cold tonight and tomorrow and then, like MetalMouse start to warm up. We should see rain Thursday, Firday and possibly Sattidy. Also looks like it won’t be long before it’s time for mowage season.
Pavo sorry about the repair mixup, but I did think it weird that all of a sudden the repairs were done. Hope wife’s surgery and recovery go well. Enjoy the clean house.
Knotty glad you are less achy.
Coppertone glad your feet feel good. I should do that. The last time I did, I remember how good it felt.
You like bear feet?
The sudewalks were icy. It felt So bleak out.
Warmer days are coming.
Last night I was messaging church guy about how I was getting tp from neighbors and he messaged me later and said he was on his way with tp and foodstuffs. I didnt need foodstuffs but its rude to turn down food.
We had a nice dinner out, now doing some last minute things to prepare for tomorrow. They’re serious about bacteria, so she’s supposed to use freshly laundered towels for her three microbial-soap showers, and sleep on freshly laundered sheets, so tonight is laundry.
Cats are sore that they had to spend the day in the basement.
Evening all. Did my gym workout and my weight was down a couple of pounds, so I decided to reward myself and got dinner at 5 Guys with a “Regular” order of fries. For those that don’t visit 5 guys, a Small fry is more than enough for one person, a Regular order is 2-3 people’s worth of fries, and a Large is…well…you really don’t need to order anything else. So I am well-stuffed and probably will not go anywhere near a scale tomorrow, but those fries are so darn good… Home now and attempting to watch 5 You Tube vidoes in a row. Also remembered to list all the letters asking for donations ($$$) to various causes, got 4 today and we’ll see what the week’s total is. 26F outside right now, so the heating bill won’t be on a downward spiral for awhile yet.
Was some excitement at the gym as I was leaving, there was a guy on the floor and the fire department and emergency folks were working on him. Didn’t see much but the legs were moving spasmodically and there was an Ambulance pulling up as I was leaving along with another city emergency vehicle, so it was something serious. Hope the dude is OK, but mostly hope I’m not him someday…
And just now got a ^T%$% cramp in my upper left leg, it comes on when I bend my leg it just so, but I haven’t figured out exactly how I am bending it to cause it. Stretching it out eases it, but never knowing when it’s coming is a annoyance.
And seeing what everyone else has to say…
It’s a timey-wimey thing, or so I’ve heard…
VanGo, hope the visitors appreciate the exhibit, even if they don’t know about the guy what made it possible.
Pavo, my best wishes for the missus (and you of course).
Wow, the snow is really coming down now and the highway is covered in a thick layer of white. I’ve been checking the weather on a regular basis and every time I checked it, it said it would stop snowing in an hour.
Its good we are retired and don’t need to go anywhere first thing in the morning. The temp is dropping and it will be icy in the morning. I have pinto beans soaking so I can make churro beans tomorrow and need a couple of Roma tomatoes. I have three and the recipe calls for five. I think we will be just fine without going to the store, but Hubs gets cabin fever so will probably go get them.
George is exhausted, the birds have been extra hungry and it is his job to huff them away from the doors. He was a very hard working kittah!
As long as I had re-activated my sourdough starter to make bread dough yesterday (I’m learning that it helps the crumb if I let it rest in the fridge overnight and then bake in the morning), I threw another loaf together today. I am thrilled with the rise, its the best I’ve ever gotten and the kitchen was fairly cool most of the day. Tomorrow I will be working on my razor skillz again but I really doubt I will ever manage those intricate patterns I see online. Oh well, good toast doesn’t need to be pretty.
The soup that I made will definitely be tweaked before I make it again. The soup base was wonderful up until the point where I added the tomatoes. Then, it was just meh. I think next time, I’ll leave them out and add some sweet corn instead. I believe that that will compliment the flavors better, This is the recipe that I used.
I just watched a bulldozer show up at the across the street neighbors home. He must have “borrowed” it to drive home and then clear his driveway so he can get out in the morning. Oh wait, nope, here comes his truck. Followed by another truck and the bulldozer driver jumped out and ran over to get into the other truck. I sure hope he paid them well, it is super cold out there right now.
Thank heavens, I’m finally free to finish my post! I don’t know why, but some Mondays are just jam-packed with phone calls. Today I heard from my eldest sister, my daughter, my middle sister, an old friend, and my mom’s old neighbor. Plus I had calls to make. I also did laundry and some odds and ends. We haven’t had any snow at all this year. Usually we get an inch or two maybe twice per winter. I hope those in the blizzard-y east are able to stay warm.
Saturday I took the bus to World Market, where they have a big variety of Torani sugar-free coffee flavoring. I use it in tea and in my morning oatmeal. I got two bottles. I decided to walk to the mall and catch the bus there. My back was not happy, but I was able to sit on a bench to wait for the bus. After it arrived and we were maybe 6 blocks from the mall, I realized I’d left my WM bag on the bench. So I got off the bus, went back, and whew! The bag was still there. One bottle of Torani was missing, though. My guess is someone thought it was booze, as the bottles are the right size/shape. Imagining the surprise and chagrin on someone’s face when they take a swig of hooch that turns out to be white chocolate coffee flavoring makes me chuckle. I guess that’d be better than finding out your Bloody Mary is a sweet Virgin Mary.
My daughter couldn’t do the usual Sunday call because she was hosting a Scrap-and-Yap party (scrapbooking and chatting). About 8 people attended, just right to fit in her craft room. She said that it’s just dawning on her husband that life is about to get a lot more complicated, and that he’ll be sleeping on the sofa at the Other Woman’s apartment for the indefinite future. I should feel sorry for the OW, as she had a baby shower–I think it was my SIL’s idea so they could get free stuff–but because she has no friends, only 4 people attended, including SIL. However, I’m not feeling that charitable yet. She’s done too much to hurt my daughter.
On a happier note, only 10 days until I have the procedure that’ll hopefully KO the pain in my back. I miss walking more than a block without having to do lamaze breathing. Charlie looks concerned. He’s a good boy. After the vicious dog a week ago, I wouldn’t let him get anywhere near other dogs. A bloodhound mix was so sad that I wouldn’t allow a whiff-and-sniff that he threw back his head and howled. Charlie sang harmony. Sorry, pup, I’m paranoid now.
Hey, has anybody watched The Good Place? My daughter recommended it, and I love it. I’m on the last season but not quite at the series end. It’s so clever!
doggio, I thought of you with the USA gold in both men and women’s hockey. And I have a confession to make: I’m not quite as wild about curling since they stopped using brooms. Somehow, those Swiffer mops aren’t as much fun.
red, the recipe looks intriguing. It seems to me that with smoked paprika as the only seasoning (besides parsley, which is mainly for color, I think), the tomatoes would dominate the flavor without being that interesting. I like your idea of adding corn, and when I make it, I’ll add garlic. Thanks for passing on the recipe!
JtC, those weather forecasters are such jokesters. I always imagine them half-crocked and playing desk soccer with their fingers and balls of masking tape. Then once in a while, someone says, “We should do an update!” and someone else replies, “Eh, just copy/paste that bit about the rain lasting one more hour.”
Question: how much do you have to add to the baking time by letting the sourdough rest in the fridge? Or do you get it out and warm it to room temp before baking?
Hooray! Nice progress!
Me, three.
I remember when surgery on a Tuesday meant getting admitted Monday afternoon, and then when you were just supposed to show up at the shriek of dawn. Now there’s a whole sanitizing ritual. Please let us know how it goes tomorrow morning. We’ll be thinking of you and your wife.
I have more to reply to, but I’m fading fast. Hugs all around, chums.
MetalMouse, I hope that guy is OK, and I really, really hope you aren’t him someday. Your heart should be in pretty good shape with all that gym-ifying.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 12c/53f and cloudy. Weather app says “Welcome to today. It’s a grey bucket of fucking suck outside. You’re fucking welcome.”
Sounds like you are finally adapting to RDOS life! It must have done you good to get some extra sleep though.
I did that recently as I could hear something rattling inside, but will do it again in case it helps
Eeek! I hope he is ok, it’s good to hear that he got help rather than a crowd of nosy onlookers filming it all. And I sincerely hope you don’t end up being that guy either, hopefully all that gym work will keep your heart in good condition for a long time to come.
Well done! Must be very satisfying to reach that stage at last.
I hope so! It’s tough when you are a busy person with lots going on and it all involves walking. Fingers and paws crossed for you
Yesterday was busy, I irked an extra hour to get some stuff finished for someone else. Then I went to the gym for Amani’s “cycle revolution” class. It’s a spin class, but he likes to be fancy. It was hard work. Came home to find ‘im indoors making dinner and making the kitchen look like a bombsite. I collected up all the rubbish and hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection.
We watched some telly stuff and I was in bed at a reasonable hour. Got woken up at 7am by the dustcart so I got up and tended to the needs of cats. Been pottering with some bits and pieces, I have meetings from 11am-1pm so that will block out a chunk of the morning. Then I have meeting minutes to finish this afternoon. And campus food to make, as I’m back in the office again tomorrow.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 29 degrees Ferret Height(-1.667 Centipedes)
Spot, watching me floss earlier: “Oh, you can stuff the forbidden mint string in your mouth, but if I try it I’m a ‘bad cat’ who’s ‘trying to off himself’?”
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 27 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 55 and sunny. The warmup begins tomorrow. Today is laundry day. I am overwhelmed with the excitatement of it all. RDOS inactivities will make up the rest of the day. Even sup will be slothful as it will involve warmin’ up soup and nukin’ cornbread.
MetalMouse happy doperversary! Hope the guy at the gym is OK.
Lily hooray for the progress! Do you have an end in sight?
Nellie I hope the operation is a success and relieves the back pain.
JtC good to know GG is pullin’ his weight.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry awaits! Rah.
