Today has started with sun and 25 Ferrets, theoretically on the way to 40 or so. The guy comes today to service our John Deere (when we bought it, we got the service contract and they come to us, so no hauling it to their place!!) We want to move it into the shop, especially since it’s cold and muddy in the yard.
After he’s done, I think I’ll run to Aldi, then I’ve got some sewing to do. Not a total RDOS day, but sometimes one must be all adult and stuff. Dammit.
Not to be morbid, but should something like that happen to you, who would they call? I know your brother lives a bit away - is there someone local who would be able to help you?
FCD is like that - even if it’s been less than a day. For some reason, he doesn’t want to feel like he’s trapped at home. It’s not like we live in a hovel with no utilities. I don’t get it.
How do you check for the correct word - is that purely up to you? Every once in a while, I’ll come across a homonym that’s spelled correctly but not the right word - it’ll pull me out of the narrative. I would think self-editing would be especially tricky because you know what it’s supposed to say and that might be what you read.
OK, Alexa just told me to check the ice - I’m making a batch of good ice. Then I’ll finish my morning surfage before doing stuff.
back at the office. 2 people actually came in yest.. i have a vacation day tomorrow.
the snow is reducing nicely, even with the overnight going to the mid 20s. there were many snowpeople in the parkway. it is a good sculpting snow. i counted 10+ in a 3 block area, along with many huge snow balls and one snow dog.
there may be a tiny bit more snow this week. 2 systems are due to happen, one clipper and one nor’east’r. 24 days to the equinox!
Was off in warm places with no internet for the last week until Sunday evening, somewhere it was warm and sunny. It’s neither of those things here today, but at least it’s not actively raining, so that’s a win, I guess. The bus drove through snow to get to the airport, which may be the last of the season, but it’s always tricky to predict here. I hope you all behaved while I was away.
There are springy plants springing up- and at least the daylength is getting more reasonable, so I do now believe that spring will come at some point. It was looking doubtful before.
I seem to have bought back some rotten bug - probably from the flight, as I was in a pretty remote place largely by myself for the prior few days - so I’m feebly attempting to work from home today, between the coughing fits, but I’m not making much progress.I have sent some emails. That’s productive, right?
Morning all, abed until 7am and have broken fast with a big bowl of Frosted Flakes so body and (hopefully) mind are working. Nothing much on the agenda today, will probably do my usual gym thing and tidy up the house a bit. Due to reach 52F today and 63F tomorrow according to the weather wizards.
And checking the evening news…
JtC, you tell Hubs to be careful, driving in snow/ice when your not that familiar with it is not the safest thing and you can manage without a couple tomatoes.
lily, happy formatting!
nellie, glad you remembered soon enough to rescue most of your shopping and got a grin thinking about someone drinking a bottle of flavoring… And a little schadenfreude never hurt anyone. And yeah, one reason I exercise so diligently is my brother, who since his hip replacement has been most a stay-at-home do nothing sort, has had some health issues in the past couple of years and I don’t want that.
boo fae, there was a little crowd since it was near the men’s locker room entrance/exit, but the way the gym is laid out a lot of folks couldn’t see what was going on.
Excuse me - you do know who you’re talking about, right??
Mower has been serviced so Otis has been allowed out again. I helped FCD for a bit in the shop, including a bit of sweeping. We’ll be going to Harbor Freight shortly because he wants so small parts bins. Then the messy chore of moving some shelving, which means unloading it all, relocating the shelf units, then loading everything back. Not hard work, just very tedious. So that’ll be my afternoon.
It’s 39F and cloudy outside. The forecast calls for a cloudy morning, afternoon rain showers, and a high of 44F.
Nellie, so good to see an update from you! I had to laugh at the stolen syrup.
Filbert, I’m sorry you caught the dreaded plane bug. That always sucks, but I hope you really enjoyed your trip.
Pavo, I hope the car is fixed soon, and best wishes for the wife’s surgery.
Lily, yay for more progress on the book!
We have tentative plans to go to the German deli and probably the German restaurant. I would like to go somewhere else, but my husband is a creature of habit when it comes to eating out. I like to try new places, or at least change things up.
We’ll also stop for doggy ice cream on the way home. The pups have been out for a few days, and they are highly disappointed. There is lots of snorting and foot stomping in the evening.
The pups have a vet appointment late tomorrow afternoon, and then I am scheduled for a hair appointment for the early afternoon on Thursday.
I suppose I should finish my coffee and get on with the day. You all take care of yourselves, and for those of you still dealing with snow and ice, stay warm.
Given that it was sugar free, they may have another surprise awaiting. The sugar alcohols used in them tend to have a laxative effect when eating / drinking too much.
Garlic is something else that I’ll add when I tweak the recipe.
Wishing your wife good results on her surgery, pavo.
I hope that you aren’t that guy someday, metal mouse.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to make some oatmeal / cranberry / pecan muffins before doing KP. Not a whole lot shakin’ today. I talked to Sis yesterday and we’re going to a plant swap on my side of town Saturday. Not really up my alley, but we’ll likely do something else too and it gets me out of the house.
So far so good. Still in pre-op, they’ve done an abdominal nerve block, and I think we’re just waiting until they wheel her away. After which, I will be waiting some more.
I’m other news, I got a text alert from one of my universities about an armed person on campus with the words “run, hide, or fight.” I’m not there, so it doesn’t affect me right now, but that’s not fun to read. It’s been updated to basically shelter-in-place and no active shooter, but they’re still searching buildings.
I first read it aloud, which catches a lot of the errors. Then I run spelling check and actually look at the suggestions rather than accepting the changes automatically. Then I print it out and read the whole thing line by line, blocking out the following lines with a sheet of paper so I can’t see them. I mark the corrections on the paper. I input them to the electronic document, then run the spelling check again. Word’s grammar/style check isn’t super helpful to me, but catches some homophones and incorrect words, so I keep an eye on its underlines.
This MS includes a fair number of words in other languages, place names, altered words, and invented words, so I keep a list and search for these as I read in order to spell consistently.
There will always be errors I miss, but fewer than in many books I read these days. No “peaked” or “poured” or “their” when piqued, pored, and they’re are intended.
I was a professional proofreader, and typesetter, and editor, as well as later performing these tasks as a volunteer in my professional organizations.
It’s best to have a different person give it a runthrough, but my own work is usually better than theirs.
The piece count numbers on the load today were’t bad. Except for the AST car, which had 109 boxes for Sumitomo. I told the PT Sup, who wandered off. Several hours later the FT Sup came, I told him, he wandered off and came back to tell me to just stuff as much as I could in, and leave the rest. Then the driver came in, and talked to his sup. So he ended up leaving the Air Saver stuff, and just taking the ground. Which was good, because he also had a generator, 2 48"x16"x16" boxes for one business, and a 100lbs mattress in a box. The middle car had a back of the truck load that took up the right back quarter of the car. And my “light car” had 3 bulk loads, plus someone ordered 4 boxes from Da Jungle. Which were all 48"x18"x16". Between all that and moving the Sumitomo boxes 3 time, I was pooped.
Congrats on reaching the end of the beginning.
Eye no, rite?
As long as it wasn’t these guys:
Feel better, Nut!
“It’s all shits and giggles till someone giggles too hard and shits.”
Back from Harbor Freight - he got the 8 storage thingies he wanted. We’re working on lunch, then back out to the shop. Someone is a bit CDO about shop organization and I just do as I’m told. It’s easier that way.
Not sure what to thaw for supper. Maybe I’ll just do sketties. Or not. We’ll see…
Looks like the campus alert was the result of several reports to campus police of an armed individual. Sounds like they are now investigating it as a possible prank report, which, if they figure out who is responsible, will probably not end well for them.
Cold and windy this morning. I cancelled my riding lesson. I’m too old and cranky to be out in 30 degrees with wind. Went to my initial PT session for my right collarbone. My pecs and traps are so tight they are pulling the arthritic collarbone and causing the pain. I wish I could say the massage felt good but it was a medical massage and when she hit certain points I almost levitated from the table. I have 3 stretches to do twice a day, and see her again Thursday.
Going to dinner tonight at Noodles. The food is just okay but the important part is seeing my friend. She’s a horse person also so we spend a LOT of our time talking, I dunno, horses?!
