One last shot of white stuff in the MMP

She must be related to FCD - the man will NOT follow doctor’s orders if they involve taking it easy. Or, frankly, lots of other instructions. Makes me crazy…

I’ve done the shelf-moving for FCD - it made space for the 3-D printer cabinet, which then freed up a section of the shop. Now we need to get a baby gate to keep Otis from stealing stuff off the shelves. I caught him today making off with a roll of tape. He’s also fond of sandpaper. Idiot canine.

And one of these days, I’ll do a project in the shop without drawing blood. This time it’s just a small scratch on my left index finger. I don’t need to risk transferring blood to something that matters. So it’s clean and bandaged. And I’m done with heavy work for the day. Chillage time!

Good. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

In other news; my car is officially totaled. Now I have to go digging through my files (I am not an organized person) to find my title and lien release. And then I guess car shopping at some point.

The happy coincidence here is that my wife won’t need her car for at least a couple of weeks, so there’s not too much time pressure.

I’ve always heard “Police”. We call it “mess cranking” (officially “mess cooking”) in the Navy, but it’r for several weeks at a time, not just a day or two.

Please tell me you’re joking.

Ditto. Best one I’ve ever seen was about the triathlons at Stonehenge…

30 Ferret Height and sunny out there today. Good-sized icicles hanging from the eaves, and a few slabs of snow sliding off the roof.

Lady SCAdian measured twelve inches of new snow – could have actually been more, or even less, the way the wind was blowing. (Dot.gov says one of the nearby towns got 30.8 inches!) We have a large patch of grass visible in the front lawn. No power outages, but our internet was down for about two and a half hours. More snow coming tonight and tomorrow, but we’re only supposed to get one or two inches.

Breakfast was a banana and coffee; lunch was soup (Progresso sausage and beer cheese with potatoes) and a PB&J. Supper will be chili made with pork “country-style” ribs. Should be interesting – I used a tin of RoTel “hot”, with habaneros, and one of their new “xtra hot”, with ghost peppers. Plenty of sour cream and shredded cheese on hand in case Lady SCAdian and I need them; daughter should find it acceptable.

Afternoon all. Gym has been gymmed and many calories have bit the dust. Of course I came home and fixed a big bacon sammich because I need the protein (not too much rationalization there) and some chocolate pudding because…I needed the reward… Will eat a late dinner and might even get some house-irk done. Gas tank is down to about 40 miles range and the car is asking me if I want it to find a gas station, but I’ll let it go another day, really want to get close to that one-month mark (last fill-up was 27 January) and 500 miles on a single tank (about 487 now). Don’t worry, will not let it run dry, only did that once in my life about 40 years ago.

FCM, hope the tedium doesn’t get you down.

Taters, I too am a creature of habit, but I do try to vary things a bit now and then.

red, while I work out, most of it is cardio stuff so the heart should be the least of my worries, and I have no signs of anything else wrong, so keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t do something stupid…which of course I will now do…and pecan muffins make my mouth water, just saying it sounds so good…

Pavo, glad wife came through the operation fine and the university is safe. Not glad your car is totaled, but at least you know the next step(s) in the process.

lily, sounds lile you know your business, best wishes on publication.

wet one, I concur that riding in 30F weather is not a great idea. I’m sure Ariel will be happy to stay in the barn these days too. ENjoy seeing your friend.

doggio, I’m pooped from just walking/pedaling, didn’t do any lifting today. Take care.

Herald, hope the snow melting season shows up soon.

And that’s all for now. Catch up again later tonight.

Hooray!

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put away. High RDOS inactivities then ensued. Dirty martinis and popcorn make for some fun day drinkin’. It also shows what class acts we are. The soup was just as good today as it was last night.

Nuts welcome back! I trust you had a good time. Hope you feel better soonest.

Pavo glad there was no active shooter. Hooray for successful surgery. I know what you mean about files. Neither of us is good with organization. On the upside, stuff is all in one filin’ cabinet. It’s messy but we know stuff is in there.

Whew! As soon as the company processes my Catalog-in-Publishing data, I can add it in.

  1. Then I’ll attempt to upload the ebook. I don’t actually need the CIP page for an ebook, but I prefer to include it. Then I’ll review and fiddle with it if necessary. Then I’ll add the cover, pricing, markets, etc.

Uploading the ebook generates its ASIN on Amazon, which I like to have in the paperback as well. Also not necessary, but again, I like to have the info in one place.

  1. Then I’ll convery the paperback Word document to PDF and work through each formatting step.

Then I’ll upload it, add information (like key phrases), I’ll review and fiddle with it. Then I’ll add the cover, pricing, markets, etc.

Once it goes live, I’ll see what pages are in the preview and perhaps change them. I need to see where it cuts off.

  1. Hi, Opal!

We shall see.

Found the title (which was actually where it was supposed to be) and lien release (which was not, but I was pretty sure it was somewhere in the disaster of a closet all our office-type stuff is)!

That was a bit stressful, cause I wasn’t sure what the next step was if I couldn’t find the release.

Home from the hospital. Wife is very tired. She asked me for a few things (her Kindle, a crossword puzzle book, and a ginger ale) and by the time I had gathered them she was fast asleep.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan, with chicken, rice, and peppers n’ peas, and watching YouTubes.
Spot has informed me he has died of Half Empty Bowl Syndrome:

Yay!

Normal for surgery.

Let me know how it turns out.

I haz teh sadz.

When we were standing outside the door for the free church dinner a guy walked up wearing a Chipotle shirt with 2 bags and offered us bowls and wraps!
They closed early it seems.
Me, “why?”
Him, " nothing serious."
I got a steak and rice with guac.

Quite good. Not nearly as hot as I expected it would be. Haven’t heard my daughter’s comments yet.

10:15pm and time for the late night final. Have done little in the last 6 hours outside of adding calories back on and internettin’ and TV-watchin’. 43F now so about 10 degrees warmer than last night.

Pavo, glad you found your paperwork, I’m re-ordering my file cabinets and finding stuff I didn’t know I still had. And hopefully wife will rest well tonight and continue to recover tomorrow.

doggio, nothing like a cat looking at you upside down.

Coppertone, good timing with the Chipotle bonus.

And off to slumberland I must go. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Sometime between 2007 and 2009 (I’m thinking the latter), I bought a pair of Ecco black leather shoes from the flagship Nordstrom store that was near our office. I did order new Merrell black leather shoes the other day, on the advice of my wife. (They’ll be here Saturday.) But today, I had the Eccos. When I put them on this morning, I noticed the ‘nose’ of the left sole was missing. Hm. Well, too late. I’m already wearing my black shoes clothes. I went down to Burien today for the staph beating. When I went back to my desk, I saw a chunk on the floor. Some of the sole, at the toe, had broken off. Damned things didn’t even last 20 years.

A man I agree with. And you gotta put the shit away after you use it. I’ve been fighting shop organization for the past year since I started at the museum.

doggio That poor cat, you monster.

Just had the evening game of “What are you chomping on?” with Ms Peach. A little piece of plastic, I think an old squeaker from one of her chew toys. Annnd now she’s yelling at me that it is dog dinner time, even though that was several hours ago.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s mild and fucking cloudy outside. So, yeah. Not a complete fucking todger of a day.”

Welcome back…we were as well behaved as usual, and some of us even used coasters! Hope you had a good time, and hope you feel better soon. One of my minions has been away and came home with some lurgy too, must be the latest souvenir.

That will make the pups happy, they must get frustrated when they go out and don’t get a treat

I’m glad you weren’t there but it must have been distressing for those who were. Hope it came to a peaceful resolution. And I see that it kind of did.

Lily That does sound like a lot of work, but worth it to get the words/grammar exactly right. I have a friend who has self-published at least four books, I offered to proofread his work because I’ve seen the end products and they often make me cringe. I did get let loose on part of someone else’s work…he credited me in his acknowledgements with having added 183 commas

Yay for her successful surgery, and yay for finally getting something out of the insurers. Having her car will ease the pressure on you, and give you time to decide what you can afford and what you really want.

Yesterday was a busy day for me. After irk, I went down to the kitchen to make campus food for the rest of the week. Then I took the opportunity to change the bedding and put that in the wash (you know how it is, I have to wait for the moment when ‘im indoors isn’t having a snooze, and the cats are elsewhere). After that, it was time to make dinner.

Dinner was scoffed, I cleared up and hung the laundry in the bathroom to dry, we watched a couple of telly things, and I was in bed by 10pm. Up stupidly early today, showered and decently dressed, and in the office.

We got our seating plan for the new office today. I still have a window seat which makes me happy, and I am a bit further away from troublesome minion. It also means that for two days of the week, I will have nobody sitting next to me. I think the configuration is a bit odd, but I know they have to take a lot into account, and need to do their best to please as many people as possible.

Two meetings today, one is more of a social thing with a group of senior admins in the College (we have Colleges instead of Faculties) which is usually a giggle. It’s in person today too so that should be fun. May be off to the pub tonight, waiting for confirmation on that, otherwise might go out for a curry as we’ve found a new place near us to try.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of < snerk > 69! < snerk > and partly sunny. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. I am also on the hunt for a new cord or chain for my lay minister’s cross. The cord it has hung on for years is worn out, so replacement is needed. I suppose I will find one somewhere. Outside of that it will be the usual RDOS inactivities. Sup will be boxed lasagna (Don’t Judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Pavo glad wife is home. May her recovery be a swift and smooth one. Yay for findin’ the paperirk!

Lily that sounds like a lot of work, but you know what to do. I know you will be so glad to finally get the book published.

Coppertone good score on the Chipotle stuff!

BooFae, I, agree. Commas, are, very, important, and, you, deserved, to, be, acknowledged, for, your, contribution. That sentence should be read in your best William Shatner voice.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le Sigh.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I woke to 36 Ferrets - it was in the 20s when I went to bed. So weird when it warms up overnight - at least it’s weird to me.

That continues to be an issue. Mid-project, he’ll set a tool down. Then he can’t find it when he needs it, so he pulls another out of a cabinet. Lather, rinse, repeat. When I help him in the shop and he sets something down, I try to grab it and put it on the workbench because he’ll need it again shortly, right? He will put everything away when he’s all done. It’s the interim that tends to be out of control.

FCD takes Otis when he goes to get a McDrink and a McBiscuit for breakfast. Otis is displeased if he doesn’t get his own sausage biscuit, or if the only purchase at the drive-thru is the drink. Someone spoils him…

Waaaaay back in the early 80s when the Wang word processor (with the 8" disks) was new and exciting technology, I was working at the Pentagon. A big part of the job was responding to inquiries from the press and Congress, so everything had to go thru the chain up to one admiral or another. There was one in particular who was bat-crap crazy when it came to adding or deleting commas. The poor secretary could never figure out what he wanted - I think he just felt compelled to make his mark one way or another. Fortunately, because of the Wang, it wasn’t necessary to type everything from scratch (with multiple carbons - remember carbons??) It didn’t take long for me to figure out that he was a total ass.

As an aside, so was his wife. I met her at some office gathering and she introduced herself as “Mrs. Admiral < lastname >” as if his rank gave her some sort of standing. What really struck me was the senior-most admiral and his wife were just like normal people! No pretense or anything.

I’ll be making a grocery run today. SIL suggested a family dinner this week - that always means I cook or we take them out to eat. Then never go to his mom’s for a family dinner - I think that says something about their relationship. Anyway, Daughter wants corned beef and cabbage. Corned beef is stoopit expensive, tho it’ll likely go in sale closer to Mar 17. I’m thinking it’ll be pot roast instead.

They’ll be coming over on Sat for dinner, plus Daughter wants to use my carpet cleaner on her hallway runner. Weather promises to be sunny and low 60s. Trevor and Otis can run amok without bring too much muck into the house, so there’s that.

Not sure what else I’ll be doing besides groceries - maybe helping in the shop, maybe making a hatch cover with the fabric I found in my studio. We shall see.

ETA - today would have been my dad’s 96th birthday. I often wonder what he’d have thought of his great-grands and what they’d have thought of him.

Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning.

It’s 35F and mostly cloudy. We’ll have some morning drizzle and a slightly less cloudy afternoon, with a daytime high of 50F.

Pavo, yay for a good surgical result for wifey, and news on your car. I hope your wife heals quickly.

Lily, that sounds like so much work, but I know you’ll be glad when you’re finally finished.

BooFae, window seats are nice! I lost my window seat when I got my own office. There were only two private office spaces that had windows where I worked, and one of them was the Director’s office. The other was already occupied. I personally wouldn’t mind not having someone next to me.

The pups did not accompany us yesterday, but we almost always have doggy ice cream in the freezer for them. We had run out, and the pups were a little miffed. However, not only did we pick up doggy ice cream yesterday, but we also picked up chew sticks AND new stuffies. They were ecstatic about the new toys, even though their current ones are in good shape. Our dogs are well-loved and spoiled. My mother would be aghast at how much we spend on dogs. When I had dogs growing up, they had a couple of toys and regular grocery store food. The only extra spending on the dogs was their shots and one dog that required a special spray for his coat.

We went to the deli, picked up some good stuff, stopped for lunch, and then, finally, Mud Bay. The pups have a vet visit at 5:00 p.m. today. They’re getting shots, nails trimmed, checked for yeast, and we’ll do the allergy shots or get a prescription for Apoquel. The dogs will be wiped after the visit, so we’ll drop them off before I pick up the prescription from Costco, which is less expensive than the vet.

It’s time for another cup of coffee. You all take care.
