One nice thing about the economic crisis...

I’ve noticed I’m getting markedly less (in fact, in recent memory zero) “pre-approved” credit card offers in the mail.

What unexpected blessings have you noticed?

Gas prices have gone down. Our monthly gas costs had past what we were spending on food at one point. It was awful. I’m enjoying the lower costs quite a bit.

I’m getting tons of them. It’s insane.

It’s starting to piss me off.

Monday morning traffic was less bad than usual this morning.

Vegas is not nearly as crowded as it usually is. Makes getting restaurant reservations a whole bunch easier.

Lowe gas prices but higher spam counts… :frowning:

My monthly budget payment to my fuel oil company has been reduced from $366.00 to $167.00:D

I’m finding some great deals on used music CDs as people start selling off their collections.

L.A. traffic seems to be a bit less brutal, too.

Washington Mutual (oops I mean Chase) offered me $100 to open a checking account. And those annoying credit card offers finally stopped.

What? I’m getting ripped, they only offered me 75!

I registered at this site a year or so ago and haven’t received a single credit card offer since.

My spam has dropped off considerably since the holidays. I figured the spammers were taking some time off just like the rest of us (or they’d used every possible permutation of an e-mail address), but it hasn’t started back up yet. From 50 a day to 2 or 3, and only from some “make money from Craig’s List” thing.

One nice thing is that the free shipping offers have extended past Christmas for some places. Too bad I’m broke.

I work security at a mall. There’s a lot less people I have to put up with on a daily basis.

More family togetherness. As my brother gets laid off and comes home to look for a job here (MS/AL vs TX) plus I am back with my parents going back to school in a better field that is more “crisis proof” we have three generations living under one roof. Yeah, it gets on my nerves sometimes but overall I think it’s pretty cool.

Plus you do things like everybody stays home and cooks together instead of spending money going out to eat. We’re forced to interact!

Not seeing as many “hey screw you and your modest middle class neighborhood” infill McMansions getting built, and the ones that were already built are collecting dust.

::Nelson Muntz laugh::

Better service just about everywhere. I remember the boom of 1999 as the absolute nadir of restaurant service.

Also, we found some great deals on winter coats.

We’ll be able to shave 300 dollars of our house payment by refinancing (assuming the other part of that equation - values dropping - doesn’t put the kibosh on it when the appraisal comes in… we think our value is still high enough though).

Daughter-in-law got a job with the FDIC.

Less pressure for grand Christmas presents.

Cost of construction for City projects going down as contractors are much less busy and have time to sharpen their pencils when bidding.
