Online coffee beans suggestions?

Anyone got some suggestions as to where to buy some decent coffee beans online? Perhaps a local coffeehouse in your area that sells their own beans?
It’s just me and a friend who stays over occasionally so I’ll be buying 2-4 pounds at a time.

Let’s keep it to the USA only, don’t want to deal with customs and international shipping no matter how great the coffee.

I’ve been ordering from La Colombe and Compass. The coffee is very good. Compass is local to me. Other local roasters I have enjoyed are Commonwealth Joe and Swings.

This roaster is located in a small town in Twisp, WA. Excellent.

You must be in the D.C. area. I like Ebenezer’s Coffee as well near Capitol Hill and I’ll definitely be ordering beans from them again.

I have friends who highly recommend Zeke’s, Vigilante, and Misha’s, who all roast locally.

I really like Central Coffee Roasters in Sperryville, VA: http://www.centralcoffeeroasters.com/

Really nice people, too; very active on things like river clean ups, protecting public lands, etc.

You’re in Chicago. Stone Creek Coffee set up a store in your city somewhere about a year ago. They’re based in Milwaukee with a number of locations here (and one in Madison, IIRC).
You can order online and it looks like they’re currently offering free shipping. When things are ‘normal’, they do pick ups as well, but I couldn’t tell you if that’s at all their locations or just their warehouse in Milwaukee.
You can order 1# or 5# bags, whole beans or ground however you’d like.

I don’t drink coffee, but Stone Creek is very popular in Milwaukee.

Two of the best, IMO. Another great one is Stumptown Coffee Roasters.

Stumptown, Counter Culture, and Intelligentsia are kind of the “Big Three” of third wave coffee. They’re almost national brands, I’d say, rather than the local roasters that the OP is asking for. Stumptown and Intelligentsia are owned by Peet’s, which has become part of a conglomerate.

Did not know that.

I do miss Compass. There was a shop just two blocks from my office. Back when I worked at the office.

Check out Lanoca Coffee Company, located in beautiful, downtown Farmville, NC. The owner, Matt, is a very personable and accommodating ally in bean-ness.

He gets beans from around the world, and his inventory changes frequently. They also allow you the to choose which roast (light, medium, or dark) you prefer for your beans, allowing you a chance to try different coffees and even the same coffees at different roasts. And you can order 12oz, 16oz or 5lb bags.

I just checked, and they are still carrying the Mogiana from Brazil… delicious in a dark roast!

Seconded. Also, probably my second choice, after Lanoca.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I’ll definitely be ordering from most of them. I started with Compass coffee and I’ll be trying their Azimuth roast. Free shipping and two for $28 makes this a low risk choice.

I’m a fan of pinon coffee and New Mexico Pinon Coffee scratches that itch. I like the dark roast pinon. They also have flavored versions. Of those, I like several, including Biscochito.

Douwe Egberts is very good coffee—those Belgians know their stuff. You can probably find it in many places but if you like, you can get it at amazon.

Double post…bad connection today?

Would love to see your review!

Other local roasters around here that I’ve seen praise for: Qualia, Ceremony, Rako, Cervantes

This one isn’t local to me, but I have a friend who swears by it: Blue Bottle

I’ve been listening to Marc Maron advertise Just Coffee for many years. I finally decided to order a bag.

Ok, Compass Coffee gets an A plus.

Ordered Thursday late afternoon. Shipped the next day and arrived Sunday afternoon. Sunday delivery is common here.

$28 for two 12 ounce tins of Azimuth beans and free shipping. An excellent cup, I’ll make it slight stronger tomorrow.

I’ll definitely be using Compass again. The tins make it easy to scoop the beans out unlike the resealable bags.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

My favorite is the Cardinal blend. I generally prefer Central American coffees and medium roasts.
