Online Jeopardy Auditions return

There’s a few books written by someone named Cecil something…

The only reason I excluded them is because I already have them, and have read them a few times. And I don’t remember ever seeing an episode that didn’t have at least one question, if not a whole category, come from the Bible or Shakespeare.

Oscar winners are another category almost sure to pop up. But generally I tend to think this is an “uncrammable” test. Either you have enough general knowledge to get enough right answers or you don’t.

Ken Jennings recommended studying U.S. Presidents, and, I think, world capitals.

Well, I’m registered. Now to find a way to upload information directly to my brain.

At least I regularly read Mental Floss. That should help.

I’m officially in training again… I TiVo every episode (new and the reruns on GSN), so I’ll be watching at least two a day until the test. I’m excited.

I registered! I may not be able to take the East Coast one though, since I work until 8pm. If I was to take the PST one, do I just sign in on Jan 31 at 11pm EST and it’ll work normally?

Eyebrows, it should. A friend of mine is planning to take the same action as you because of his work schedule. And on the website it says that is is allowed, although they encourage people to take it at the time given in their own time zone.

I was at the bookstore today and found these things called Spark Charts. They make them for a whole bunch of subjects, and seem to be perfect as refreshers for certain subjects that always come up in Jeopardy. I bought nine of them.

I registered. I have a feeling I don’t have enough general knowledge. I’m pretty weak in government. My strong suits are general science, grammar and spelling, and food! I’m not too bad in math either.

I’m afraid of the “cute story” aspect, too. Well, let’s hope I can get far enough in the interview process for that to be a problem!

Good luck, contestants!

First test is tonight. As a first time test-taker, I understand that there are 50 questions.

Any test vets know how/if these are grouped? ie: like on the show, where there’s a category and several questions of each; or are these 50 random general knowledge questions?

Good luck to all!

No grouping. The last time they had 50 questions, one right after the other, one at a time, with no rhyme or reason for the order they were presented.

I guess you could say 150 questions presented that way, because they are changed each night.

I got my reminder email yesterday. I’m CST, so my test is tomorrow.

:: crossing my fingers ::

After reading about this thread a couple weeks ago, I decided to sign up. I don’t know nearly enough about certain things they tend to ask about to do well though. Categories such as Kings and Queens, Shakespear, the Oscars, and Opera. Stuff like that. Here’s hoping for lots of left brained questions.

If I were to make it on the show, I know what I’d need to study: mountains, lakes, and rivers. Those questions always seem to kill me when I watch.

I would need some Sports Records and Popular Music.

But I haven’t done anything to prepare for the tests in twenty years. I’ve been called for auditions several times, but they always seem to have hit their quota of boring, bullet-headed white guys…

They called me on Feb 5, to appear on March 6-7. There was another week of taping March 12-13.

Not sure if this will change because of Alex’ mild heart attack in December [?].

@ Dr Fidelius Don’t get discouraged, it took 3 times fro them to finally call me, “boring, bullet-headed bespectacled white guy”

@ Marley23 Correct, I think the best practice is to play the game

@ all online contestants Good Luck!

Ooh, I got out of work early, so I can do it tonight! Ten minutes!

Good luck all.
