Heh. Okay, fruitbat, since Sam Stone has not expressed interest (and I am NOT suicidal enough to challenge him), count me in.
Otto, I swear those sites hurt too much. Especially the play money sites. Three pre-flop raises and all ins. YOU’RE HOLDING 7/2 OFFSUIT, PUTZO! Lots of people who don’t really know the rules and read a few passages out of Phil’s book. But everyone here pretty much knows what they’re doing. I think.
Assuming I’m around, I’m in. I’ve started playing online about 8 weeks ago, starting with $45. Currently, my total is just a hair over $1000 (a chunk of that is bonus money however).
You can send details to LLAMAPOET@hotmail.com or you can provide an address for me to write to.
Tell me about it. I was tolling around earlier this morning and some yutz was at my table going “OK, everybody go all in on the next hand. Who’s with me, everybody go all in.” over and over and over again. Of course he was the luckiest sumbitch on the planet, playing garbage like 9-6 offsuit and routinely flopping sets.
Ignore those PC-hungry parasites, Otto. I’m with you, man. If sites just can’t be bothered to accomodate us Mac users, why should we bother to accomodate them with our money?
And yes, there are such programs, but again, unless I’m going to be doing enough to justify the hundreds of dollars worth of expenditure, I’m not gonna bother.
(And as an aside, I too go to the site you do - what’s your nick? - and it IS painful. I was actually relieved when I saw someone go all-in first hand with KK. Lucky for me I have the RL home game to go to for some relief.)
Tried to download the pokertropolis and install it. Keeps getting to 48% and locking up. I may not be in. If you can offer any suggestions, please do. I love hold-'em.
Just as a quick aside. I put in $200 there to take advantage of the 25% bonus, BUT according to www.bonuswhores.com, Pokertropolis uses bots. That said, I yanked out $190 of that and will write off the bonus. It is not worth trying for with those chips stacked against you.
Tommy, could you explain what bots do? I can’t click on the url you gave as I am at work and Symantec would have my ass. Also, do you know what the rake at Pokertropilis is?
Email sent. I can’t find much time to play at all, it seems, but I’d love to see if I can fit some time in to play with y’all. It should be interesting.
The link I mentioned IS worksafe. It talks about gambling, but there is no porn, no porn ads, no porn links, etc.
That said, they have two poker sites currently blacklisted, one of which is Pokertropolis. They say that bots are used in play and are run by the house. A bot is generally a poker program designed to sit at a table and play without human intervention needed. This 1) gives the illusion that a lot more people are playing at a site than currently are and 2) having a company ‘representative’ playing at the site means that the odds become more stacked against you. Keep in mind the bots do not cheat, but that does not mean they would be easy to beat.
In all fairness, according to the website I mentioned, Pokertropolis denies the use of bots, but to post such a thing at a reputable site makes me think. In addition, the $.99 hold em tourney I played in there last night felt very bot-like. No chat at all, and the timing/play of raises/folds felt almost automatic in nature, MUCH more so than at Party or any of the half dozen places I play/played at.
I would recommend we play at PokerStars instead as they allow private tournaments, but unfortunately they require a $10+$1 entry structure as their minimum. On the bright side, if we are using the site just for private tourneys, bots won’t play into it, I mentioned it more for the sake of the fact that I’m not going to try and earn the $50 bonus they are advertising there and have pulled out $190 of the original $200 I had deposited there yesterday afternoon.
Lastly, I posted some information at the msn message group that x-ray set up about getting a Neteller account running if you haven’t done so.
Just chiming in to reiterare one of TommyTutone’s points. If bots are used at Pokertropolis, it won’t affect us one bit since we are playing at a private table with Dopers only. At 10¢ per tournament per person, I think Pokertropolis is the right choice.
**Tommy[b/], since you’re all set up, you and I should go heads up in a tournament and let the rest know how it went. Lets see if they keep their word about the 10¢ entry fees.
I’m on now, but have no idea how to create a room, let alone how to set it up for private play. My handle there is TomTutone if that will help you in setup. Otherwise, I’ll keep looking for how to do it.
I just sent you an e-mail Tommy. All I need is your acct. # and I can start the “Dopers Only” group at Pokertropolis (you need at least two people to do that) and from there we can schedule tournaments for any time.
Good news: There is no 10% rake for tournament games.
Bad news: There is a .50 registration fee per player (which isn’t really that bad)
Really bad news: TommyTutone and I just played the first private tournament of the Dopers Only group and he kicked my ass!
Since we didn’t give them enough notice, they messed up the set up a bit and we spent the first few minutes just staring at a blank table. They assured me we won’t run into those kind of problems in the future if we just give them a little more notice on tournament start times.
We both really liked the look and feel of the table. Each player srarts off with $1500 worth of fantasy chips and the blinds start at 7.50/ 10.00 .
Now we’re just waiting for the rest of you to join and we can start scheduling tournaments regularly. See you on the (virtual) felt battlefield.
