"Only in LA could a vampire be the good guy..."

Tagline for the new CBS series, Moonlight.

Hmm. Sounds like a familiar premise, CBS. And I see that David Greenwalt has been hired to run the show, too.

Is this going to be another stock genre, along with cop shows, doctor shows, and lawyer shows? Vampire PI shows?

Isn’t the premise for this almost the same as the premise for Forever Knight?

I was thinking that. Forever Knight was a pretty good show.

We are talking about a remake of Joss Whedon’s series “Angel” , right? Or about a filming of Preacher?

It seems like an Angel rip-off.

If I ever won the lottery of 100 million or more, aftert taxes, I would make Preacher into a 9 part TV miniseries.

Geez, at least move it to another city…

(It’s not Forever Knight, that’s a Vampire COP show, not a Vampire PI show…)

Talk like that’s gotta piss Count St. Germain off.

I miss Angel

I like some vampire fiction, so I’m going to give it a try. Besides, Jason Dohring is in it, the guy who played Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars, and I like him.

I’ve never even heard of Forever Knight, but I just added it to my Netflix queue.

I tried the new Canadian vampire show Blood Ties, because it’s based on Tanya Huff’s terrific novels, and it was not very good.

I’ll watch it, not expecting too much though. Probably Life or Moonlight will get regular viewing by me, but not both. Can’t waste my whole life watching TV ya know.

Me, too. I’ve just started rewatching the entire series. Such a great show, such a terrible shame the network pulled the plug when it did.

Hey Tahssa, This should make your day. It sure did mine.

…there’s only one thing I can’t stand about San Dimas…

All the damn Vampire P.I.'s…

This isn’t the only borrowed supernatural premise being borrowed from an older show this year. Something (name of show escapes me) has a guy trying to round up a bunch of escaped sinners from hell, with the promise of redemption if he succeeds. Hmm that sounds vaguely familiar…oh yeah they’re ripping off Brimstone. Only major difference is that the new show is playing up the yuks and not the angst.

That’s Reaper.

I really liked Brimstone. The fact they cancelled it is just one more reason I hate humanity and spitefully drink extra diet coke just so I can release more CO2 into the atmosphere.

You’re all going to pay for that mistake.

It’s being adapted by the guy who did Daredevil and Ghost Rider’s adaptations, so I gotta ask…

How the hell is that supposed to make a fan of Preacher feel good?

Okay, it’s nowhere near as good as Angel, but Mick St. John is the best looking vampire I’ve seen in a long time and that’s good enough for me! I still like Reaper a lot better, though.

Over the last year I’ve re-watched the entire series (I’m about halfway through the last year), and I’ll second that whole-heartedly. And damn, wasn’t there a lot of man eye-candy in that show? We were discussing “Angel” just last night, and we decided that Joss Whedon lost his mind for a bit when he didn’t have a bunch of good-looking girls in low-cut blouses on the show in the last season, thereby losing his fan-boy audience, and let the show die a premature death (they should have had at least one more year).

I didn’t watch Angel, but I did watch Forever Knight, way back when. I didn’t think Moonlight owed too much to Forever Knight other than the very basic premise (vampire decides to do good by being a detective).

I liked the private-eye vibe the show had – the Mickey Spillanesque voice-over. Not enough coverage of the necessary cleanup at the end, though – what did he do with the baddies? He didn’t just bundle 'em up and drop 'em off at the cop shop with a note, “Here are the guys you were looking for,” did he? Hopefully they’ll be less sloppy on future shows.

Still, I liked it better than any of the other new shows I’ve seen yet, except Reaper. Not least because the leading man is very, very cute indeed.
