I’ve only recently seen Saw, and I though it was amazing. It’s not your normal horror film (ie Slasher) but it does really get under you skin - the idea of the killer is brilliant. Most of the performances are near perfect (especially Leigh Whannell), the direction’s really original, and the ending is one of the best ever, on a par with Fight Club, The Usual Suspects and Se7en.
The fact the the “corpse” is Jigsaw is, if you like films with these kinds of twists, really quite obvious, but your mind is taken off who the killer is for a lot of the time so you forget. (However, as I’d been looking forward to the film for ages and couldn’t get in to see it at the cinema I foolishly asked my brother all about the ending.)
And even though I did that, I was still surprised at the end because I wasn’t aware that EVERY secret from the rest of the film was uncovered during those last seconds, I thought some would be revealed in the middle.
Superb.
