OpalCat... Homeowner?!? =:O

That’s good. Just make sure he does a thorough job. None of this 30-minute make-sure-the-lights-work-and-the-toilet-flushes BS.

A good inspection can take about 2 hours, and he should check everything from the foundation to the roof. Literally everything. And ask him about termites. Please, Opal, please. Be merciless about asking him about termites. They’re very active in the D.C. area, and if he doesn’t know anything about termites (a lot of home inspectors don’t) then call Terminix or Orkin and get an inspection from them.

I’m in the termite and pest control business, and I’ve seen people buy houses which were disasters. They had to spend lots of money to fix the damage and also to get termite control. They wouldn’t have bought their houses if they knew. Please be smart for yourself and get a good inspection and remember about the termites.

Good luck again.

our agent told us that the termite inspection was separate from the home inspection…

Well, I guess that’s OK. The important thing is that it gets done, and that it gets done by someone who knows what they’re doing. I would insist that it be done by a professional in the termite and pest control industry. Lucky me, I was able to do that for myself.
