I don’t know if this is allowed or anything, but if not, feel free to close this thread and kick my foreign butt.

The reason for posting is that I’m looking for a job. More specifically, I’m looking for a job abroad. I’m Dutch, 25 y/o and currently working in the UK, but I would love to do some globetrotting and start working in the US or Australia or something for a couple of years at least. However, it is very hard to find work there if you’re stuck here.

I’m currently working in the IT business. I have a lot of experience in Microsoft based products, have some certificates in them and use them a lot. I’ve been a system administrator in a medium sized company using primarily Windows NT.
Currently I’m learning a lot about RDBMSs, primarily Oracle, DB2, Sybase and MS SQL Server and I’m ploughing through books of networking and telecommunication subjects.
For hobbies I use a lot of DTP products and know my way around CorelDRAW, PhotoPaint, PhotoShop, PSP and AutoCAD.
I speak Dutch as my primary language, English almost fluently, German quite well and French OK.
I know that individually, none of these skills really stand out, but combined it might give me an advantage or something. I’m also a very keen worker and a very fast learner.

So I was wondering if anyone has suggestions, advise, job opportunities even maybe? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Aghris

This thread looks open to me.

Second attempt to say this appears open. (The last time, my message seemed to take but disappeared on refresh.)

Are you kidding? You’re in IT and you want to know if there are any jobs? Oh, yeah. There are a few.

The difficult part may be getting a copmany to sponsor you for an H1 visa, but many will do this for the right person. Your qualifications seem quite good and in demand, so check out some of these:

Start here
Then check this one
And this one
Also, this agency is quite good

And there are many more.

The IT industry is quite easy to search by web sites. When you find several interesting opportunities, and do very thorough phone interviews, you may have to schedule a trip to interview in person. But hopefully you will cover all major points by phone/email to make sure you are not wasting time.

If you talk to a company and they sound serious, find out about the complete package they offer, including stock, vacation, relocation costs, etc. You will find many good opportunities in IT in the US.

Don’t hesitate to ask specific questions, I’ll be happy to help if I can. Also, if you are so inclined, email me a resume and I’ll respond if I can point to specific oportunities.

Good Luck!
