Opening Day in the MMP!!!

For whatever reason, my spousal unit has become a big baseball fan, and today is opening day for the Washington Nationals, among others. The game starts at 1, so we’ll just see the highlights on the news, but soon, we’ll be watching games in the evening and on weekends. Maybe one day we’ll even go to Nats Park and watch. Maybe.

As a kid in Baltimore, I got to see Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell and some other oldies play in the now-demolished Memorial Stadium. I liked baseball because I mostly understood the rules of the game. I still like it, tho I could never be called a hard-core fan.

Still, join me in a rousing chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame!!! Peanuts! Gecher peanuts here!!

Happy Moanday!

First! Woot!

We don’t get much baseball coverage over here, I’ve seen a few games on the tellybox in bars when we’ve been visiting your side of the Pond. It’s basically adult rounders, as far as we’re concerned! We’re not big sports fans in any case so it’s just something going on in the background for us, but it seems there are rarely any bars that don’t show sport of some kind so it’s hard to miss out there.

Did I mention that we’re coming your way next week? We are flying into Phoenix on Sunday, and leaving from Denver two Sundays later, and driving most of the way in between the two locations. We have to drop the rental car at Grand Junction and then get the train from there to Denver.

So…a small favour for you weather-watchers…what kind of temperatures can we expect in that area so we can pack accordingly?

Second!

It’s the first day of summersummer!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 84 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon and evenin’. The forecast is the same for Ye Olde Home Towne where I’ll be headed later this mornin’ except the rain will start earlier which means I get to drive into the rain. YEEHAH! This also means I may not be around much this week as I tend to unplug whilst up there. Also, mom has several dr. appointments this week so I’ll be chauffer. Sis gets a break from all this when I’m there mostly at my insistence.

Baseball, hmmm… is that the one where they wear baggy shorts, run around bases and try to score touchdowns? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day when the Etlanner Braves were especially rotten, we’d drive up to the stadium which was about sixty miles from Ye Olde Home Towne to watch games. We’d get cheap seats for three bucks and sit up there for a couple innin’s. After that, we’d get motioned down to better seats because TBS (where one watched most Braves games on teevee) would want “crowd shots” and there might or might not be all of maybe three thousand fans in the whole stadium. Fun times.

BooFae FWIW here’s the forecast for Denver for the month of April. Hope it helps.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I need to purtify, run a few errands and head out to Ye Olde Home Towne.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Phoenix is looking for 77°F and sunny on Sunday. My favorite site doesn’t look out beyond 10 days, so I can’t help you much after that. Sorry.

bLURF Been at irk since 0645 and have accomplished much. Tis new month and i only have to make $119K in vendor payments by Wed.

Since I was so early though I can leave early I hope. Louie stayed home today as I did not want to get bit.

I have done my fuel statement, my credit card statement, finished my perpetual inventory and about to start that payment process. Barring anything that requires research I will get most of it done today.

Already tahred. be safe Swampy

Happy Moonday!

It’s a somewhat N.O.S. 47 degrees outside. It’s supposed to rain today.

I just got off the phone with the old cable company. My phone wasn’t working, going straight to voice mail, and they had to fix it on their end.
It’s working now and hopefully it stays that way.
I need to update my payment information but that part of the system is down.
Later today I have to take in the cable box, assorted wires, and remote to get* that* cable service cut off. Later I need to go online and collect my reward card for converting to DirecTV.

I’m up too early because my hand started hurting again and it hurt so bad it was keeping me awake. I put a salonpas thing on it so we’ll see if that works.

I was so sick yesterday. After we got back from the grocery store I went to bed. I felt fine in the morning. I hope I am done with the sick. I don’t have time for that.
I have so much to do right now. The yard is a mess.
The dog needs more attention. He’s not eating like he should so we have been spoon feeding him at times. Of course he loves that.
It’s coming up on the end of the semester so Sah-son can’t help me as much as he usually does. He’s working ahead in he class that lets him, but the end of the semester projects are coming up. One of them is that he has to go to a Bahe’i Temple up here and then write a paper on it. I told him I will drop him off and wait for him but I’m not going in with him. With him being so shy he keeps putting it off but it’s his assignment and he is going to have to do it on his own.

I’m not much for baseball, or any sport for that matter, but I don’t hate baseball the way I hate football. I just really, really hate football.

Have a fun, safe trip Swampy.

Now to nuke some breakfast and log in to irk.
I don’t know what I a going to do later for lunch and dinner. My hand hurts so bad, it’s hard to pick up anything.

Wow! I’m up there this week.

My late inlaws (Popsi, Muvver and Augie) were all big baseball fans but the Old Wench and I never quite caught the bug. Our home opener is Friday - I know because they have been stressing the weather reports for then - but I’ve never been to an opening day.

I can take or leave baseball, but my ex was a huge fan so I know all sorts of useless baseball info. Carl Ystremski won the Triple Crown in 1967. Boston Red Sox. I think the White Sox open today at home. Go Sox! Yes, I’m a south side girl and have no use for the Cubs.

I’ve been at work for an hour and am already annoyed. Going out to dinner tonight. Half price burgers at the local steak joint.

One of the girls that works in my building, but not my employee, had a lovely Golden Retriever named Larkin. Larkin had cancer, lymphoma to be exact. She had to put him down this weekend and now I am seriously considering driving an hour each way to go get my boy. I want my boy. I am so sad for her.

I grew up in a Dodgers household. We went to games often and if we weren’t at the games, we were listening to the games on the radio, or watching them on TV. Once I left home, I still followed them, but stopped watching unless they were in the playoffs.

BooFae here is monthly weather for Phoenix. You’ll notice it’s quite a bit warmer. Denver could conceivably still get snow. Phoenix will hit the 90s while you are there. You’ll need to pack layers.

Swampy have a fun visit!

Sari hope your hand feels better soon.

Used to go to the Cardinal’s games when I lived in St. Louis 10-12 times a year, but since moving to North Ali-bama (the local Minor-League team moved out 2 years ago), not so much. Don’t care to watch it on TV except for an inning or so.

Coached a special session of soccer (goalies only) Sunday and the bending and crouching really messed up my back. Slept until 8am without pain and hopefully all is well back there. First load of laundry is in the machine and grocery shopping is on the afternoon schedule. Might as well, been raining all morning and looks like it’ll stay that way all day.

Boofairy, my favorite site is weather underground (https://www.wunderground.com/), it’ll give the local conditions of almost any city in the US (not sure about foreign locations) and a 10-day forecast. Basically Phoenix will be warm but comfortable (don’t visit there in July!!) and it will get cooler as you head East and North (and into the mountains). Enjoy the trip.

**Butters, ** Louie doesn’t like going to work?

Sari, hope you feel better soon.

Safe travels, swampy. Hope the mom-swamp is doing well.

And first load of laundry is done. Into the dryer with them and start on the shirts.

Louie loves coming to irk just not at 0500. I will work til 2 and be home by 3. I guess I will survive.

Blurf.

Somewhat confused today, boss suddenly started acting weird, then (at about 2.30) declared that I should go home at 3, instead of 5.30 like I was s’posed to. No idea why. I think he may be up to something, but no clue what.

I mean, it’s a sunny day, and I need to go check on my bees, so going home early is quite nice, but

I don’t do sports. Now I don’t work in any sports stadia, I treasure my ignorance in such matters. I’ve certainly never watched baseball.

Is your IRL name Gloria?

Well, that kilt the MMP!
We need to change that. Can you fit in BooFae’s luggage?

Home at last! Very busy day and I did learn a little something that may or may not have been causing me issues on some drawings, so there’s that. I also figured out one irritating issue by myself - glad I didn’t have to ask anyone - it was a DUH!

Nats won the home opener 4-2! WOOHOO!

We’re having sushi and salad for supper. I’m boiling a dozen eggs for whatever.

The preceding post was typed with a cat across my left arm. Taz has been affection-starved of late.

Mowed the entire lawn yesterday and it didn’t rain. Win! Took a long time though. We bought our lawnmower from Monkey Wards over 25 years ago, and over the years I’ve replaced numerous parts of it, but the old Briggs & Stratton engine just will not die so I can get a new one. The main problem with it is that he chute into the collector bag is too small and if the grass is even a little bit wet, it clogs up and I have to stop and take the bag off to clear the compacted grass out of the chute. About every 60 - 90 seconds yesterday. It’s starting to get tired though. I don’t know if I’m happy or sad about that.

The ground hornets, or digger bees, or whatever they are, are back. They don’t bother anybody, but if left alone, there will be thousands of them soon and they make a mess of the yard. I’ll have to spread bug killer granules all over the lawn in the next few days. At least the spreader is easier to push than the lawnmower.

Our oldest grandson went to the local university on a baseball scholarship and we went to a lot of baseball games and had a lot of fun, but mostly because of the other parents/grandparents who were also there. It was a very social thing, and sometimes we even watched the game.
We have gone in a largish group to a ball park to watch a local minor league baseball team play a couple of times and had a good time eating hot dogs and drinking beer and stuff, but again, it was a social thing.

A group of us used to go watch the Trailblazers play, back when you could get a seat in the stadium without taking out a second mortgage. It was fun being out with friends.
But I think it would have been as much fun going bowling or playing darts.
At any rate, professional sports on TV leaves me completely cold. Not my sort of thing at all.
We did watch the Ducks play in the NCAA(?) tournament, and were sorry when they lost, but we weren’t crushed.

Sari, I must have missed something as I have no idea why your hand is hurting, but I do hope it gets better soonest.

Dinner tonight will be Zuppa Tuscana* 'cause I have a couple of Eye-talian sausages left over from last night.

  • Like the soup at olive garden only made a little different, my way and to our taste.

**Bumba **- would you share your Zuppa Toscana recipe please? My spousal unit loves it - in fact, when he wants to go to OG, it’s specifically for salad and that soup.

**FCD **still isn’t home - he had to interview someone at 3:30 and I have no idea how long it would take. Luckily, supper will be easy to throw together, so there’s that.

The eggs are boiled and cooling. I’m going to peel them all and store them in tupperware for ease of ingestion.

Louie bite? I feel for your coworker, butters. Giving the ultimate kindness is never easy.

Be careful on the road and say hi to MamaBear from one of your imaginary intertoob friends, swampy.

As a kid, I got to go to at least one Reds game a season during the Big Red Machine years and still went on a regular basis when I lived in Indiana. We also went to Cubs games with my grandad (he was a serious fan) and White Sox games with my dad’s union (where I learned to dislike the DH rule). Since the strike in MLB, I’ve stuck mostly to minor league games, first with the South Bend White Sox/ Silverhawks, then, after coming to Tennessee, the Sounds. Minor league is fun!

It rained this morning, so I didn’t take the bike to the doctor. I got set up for my mammogram and with a dermatology appointment to take care of what is likely another skin cancer lesion (fair skinned redhead in my un-sunscreened youth on the lakes and farm, go figger. We just keep a check on it every year). I had planned to stop by Wilson Leather at the maul for a new purse, but found a really nice black leather one in the style that I was looking for at Goodwill, along with a basket for a planned hostess gift and some 12"X12" wire grates to expand the cube rack in the studio.

Happy Monday!

Irked 11 hours and drove two. Brain dead. Was so glad to get home to my baby though. I feel so badly about the Golden. His mama spent all her savings, made homemade food, had acupuncture and even went the Chinese herb route. At most she probably prolonged his life by a few months.

I called our business manager and gave him a piece of my mind about the insane deadline to pay all those vendors. Came home and opened a bottle of wine. Shall try to drown my sorrows.

I love baseball as it’s the only sport I understand. Partial to the braves but now I like the marlins.
