The difference between baseball and hockey is, in baseball, if you knock the ball out of the playing area, you get applauded. In hockey, you do that and you have to go to the box and feel shame
I prefer hockey, not sure if you knew that or not.
Feel better, sari.
Butters, $119K? My store doesn’t spend that in a year. And it sucks losing a pup. : quietly skritches Gordie :
The mayor of my city wants to bring Major League baseball back to my city, but it’ll cost too much and divert funds away from where it’s needed much more. Boo.
I’m not a baseball hater. I just think it’ll be a bad idea to bring it back here.
Mom, I don’t know where the original recipe went to, but here’s how I do it:
1/2 lb sweet or mild Italian sausage
3 or 4 slices of bacon, chopped small
1 yellow onion, diced
4 or 5 medium to large russet potatoes, diced in bite sized pieces
~ 5 oz kale or spinach, de-stemmed and chopped
2 cans chicken broth
~ 2 1/2 cups water
1 cup lactose free milk
salt
pepper
1/2 tsp ground fennel seed
In your soup pot cook sausage and onion over medium low heat until sausage is browned and onion is translucent. If your sausage is lean, put in a bit of cooking oil. Add fennel at this point if your sausage doesn’t have enough fennel. (I like fennel. You don’t have to.)
Remove sausage and onion to a container lined with paper towels
Cook bacon bits until almost crisp. The idea is to render as much bacon grease as possible.
Remove bacon bits to the container with the sausage, leaving bacon grease in pot.
Dump potatoes into pot with salt and pepper and stir potatoes until grease is absorbed into potatoes.
Don’t worry about the brown stuff stuck to the bottom of the pot. The potatoes will pick that stuff up.
Add broth and water.
Cook until potatoes are about as soft as you want them. (I go about 30 minutes.)
Add kale, or other green of your choice. (I used spinach tonight 'cause I had some and didn’t feel like going to the store just for kale.)
Cook until greens are wilted.
Stir in milk.
Serve.
How this is different from olive garden:
They use a pound of hot Italian sausage, 6 slices of bacon, only 2 potatoes, about 10 ounces of kale, chicken bullion  and heavy cream.
I changed it a tiny bit.
You should probably change it to suit FCD.
I hope I 'splained that well enough. If you have questions, just ask.
Well, did five loads of laundry, so anything that wasn’t washed is now washed (save for the clothes I wore today). So that should hold me until May. Also paid bills, contributed to my Mutual fund, took my BAC (Big-Ass Comforter) to the Dry Cleaners (getting the SAC (Small-Ass Comforter) on the bed, and did the April Grocery shopping. So I have been ambitious and successful today.
Tomorrow I have to clean the bathrooms…I can feel the ambition flowing out of me…
I have accounts payable every month over 100K except about two. Used to be I did them throughout the month but since my friend /ap person died the new girl wants it all by the 3rd working day of the month. I am one person. Impossible especially if there are any discrepancies that require research. Then I am idle for the rest of the month.
I was just irritated today and kind of took it out on my staff. I apologized. Plus Moanday is the busiest day of the week. Go home people please.
Let’s not even think about the accreditation visit in three weeks. I just don’t really care anymore. I know what we do and we do a hell of a job with no complaints. I should not have to prove anything. The financials show everything.
On a totally unrelated note ---- I rescued an old desk from my Dad’s that has seen better days. It started life in the late 1800s with a doctor, Dad used it for various hobbies and it ended in the basement against a damp cinderblock wall. Yeah – we’re talking major mildew and maybe some mold. Since I had to partly take it apart and since I planned on refinishing it anyway I am wondering
a) Bleach water to kill the bad stuff?
b) Tung oil or varnish?
I don’t want opinions enough for a thread but am curious what fellow Mumpers feel. My plan is to make it a support desk/planning area down near my work benched in my basement. (In the middle far from any walls)
Mine is not often but annoying as Hell and it won’t quite go away. If it lasts much longer I may just have to name it Fl -------- something or other.
I agree. When we lived in Jacksonville, the farm team for (I think) Detroit played there as the Suns. The games were fun and the stuff in the stands was a hoot! In particular was the time they had a short, fat, balding Elvis impersonator wandering the stands in a white satin bedazzled outfit with a cape!! Like I said, a hoot!
In the neighboring county, we have the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, a team affiliated with the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. We’ve been to a few games and I hope we’ll go to some this summer. It’s not too far away, the stadium is pretty nice, and you occasionally see some good baseball. Cheap entertainment, plus fresh air - what more could one ask?
I don’t think last night’s rain materialized, alas. We’re promised more on Thursday, so we shall see. Today is supposed to get close to 80° - I left a few windows open this morning to air out the house. And I’m going to try to take a walk at lunch, since it’ll be nice out.
I don’t know what woke me but then the dog needed out,and then I was hungry, and then the dog needed out again.
He is drinking lots more than usual, which means he is peeing lots more than usual. He’s done this before, so I don’t know if it’s a phase or his kidneys are failing. Every time I think his time is done he rallies back.
So I unloaded the dishwasher, and reloaded the dishwasher, and put the can goods away that were still sitting in bags in the middle of the floor. My hand hurt so bad I just left them. Then I cleaned out the fridge.
It’s 54 degrees outside, supposed to go up to 72 and rain all day.
I didn’t get much done yesterday so today is going to be busy. I have to get to the cable company for sure today. Then again, if it is raining hard one more day won’t hurt anything.
Bumba - I have no idea how I hurt my hand. It aches most of the time but anytime I try to grip something or pick something up it really hurts.
Yesterday I was on the phone with some stuff and the woman I was talking to told me I sound like I am from Kentucky. Kind of interesting, but I don’t think so. Not that I would mind if I sound like I am from Kentucky, I hate my Baltimore accent.
Afternoon, mumpers! Thanks for the weather info, I shall pack for all eventualities. If anyone small wants to come along, I have a luggage allowance of about 96kgs and rarely manage more than about 14kgs in total. Don’t tell the cats that, they’ll want to come with us instead of spending their holiday in the local moggery.
I was asked yesterday to help out with timetabling stuff in another part of the college. I don’t mind doing that, it’ll be fun to visit another office (I worked there years ago as a temp) and I know the team manager over there bakes very nice cakes so I am sure I will enjoy my sojourn. That’s what happens when the timetabling system opens up to us minions, and I happen to be the evil genius timetabler!
Why is it not Saturday yet? I wanna be on a plane!
You will have to check out the Altoona Curve some day. Not only do homeruns go into the rollercoaster of the neighboring amusement park (which unfortunately will not open this year) but they have some amazing promotions. I was at Erik Estrada Day once and just missed Frivolous Lawsuit Night where all the gifts were based on things various ballparks had been sued over. Altoona wins awards all the time for promos.
BLURF plugging away at the accounts. i may or may not get the easy ones done by end of today. I am starting not to care too much. No one else cares for sure, no one locally anyway.
Our weather is wonderful. warm, breezy could not be better. Having crappy McDonalds for lunch.
Ok, so it looks like I can just about fit, but I don’t think I’d have room for clothes… How do US customs deal with near-nekkid Mumpers in the hold?
It looks like boss’s weird behaviour yesterday was just him wanting to argue with the chef about the menu without me joining in. Not that I’m argumentative or anything (checks nose hasn’t grown), but he keeps asking me for my opinion, apparently expecting automatic backup for his ideas, and I tend to say what I really think. Then he sulks, 'cos some of his ideas are daft
Day off tomorrow, I’m planning on trying to make a start on de-junkifying my possessions. It’s still several months away, but I am a bit of a hoarder. I’ve no real clue how much space I’m going to have when I move (it’s not a normal campus, so I’ll be renting or lodging locally), and instead of moving 10 minutes away like I did the last two times, it’s nearly three hours drive.
The beehive is probably going to be the really fun bit to move though…
Has the mold damaged the wood or is the wood sealed? Since you’re planning on refinishing it anyway, I think i would start with whatever will stain the wood least, wood soap and water or a bleach solution, let that dry and see how she looks. If that doesn’t work, then it’s on to more serious measures. My concern over all of it would be how much discoloration it already has, and how much will be added in trying to clean it up.
I imagine they will  Good on you for starting to purge your things early. I try to do that, but it always seems like no matter how much I get rid of, there’s always more stuff. It grows magically I think.
Sari you should probably get your hand checked out. It doesn’t sound good.
Butters can you just use your former accounting system (do the individual bits as they come up all month) and then hand everything over to the new person at month end (or beginning)? That way you wouldn’t have to crunch it all into a few days every month. Also, can you take a week off? Maybe after the accreditation thingie is over. You sound like you very much need a break. {{{hugs}}}
I went to the doctor yesterday about my voice. I expected some instructions about not talking. Instead I got, “hey, you have a fever, your lungs don’t sound great, you’re at risk for pneumonia.” I had no idea. I knew I had a cough, but it didn’t seem pneumonia bad. I didn’t think I had a temperature. Anyway, I’m instructed to [del]sit on my ass[/del] rest, use this disgusting medicine for my throat, and use an inhaler for my lungs. If things get worse, I’m to return because pneumonia. Hubby leaves tonight for a business trip. Woot! (sarcasm)
Howdy Y’all! I am postin’ from sis’s laptop at mom’s house. Wifi is now available. Been a busy day for me. First I thought I had lost my wallet. The la st time I had it out was at a BK in Columbus, Jawja at N.O.L. yestiddy. Turns out it had fallen out of the back pocket of my jeans when I changed last night and was hidden under the bed skirt of the bed. :smack: Then I spent some time a’ the nursin’ home visitin’ my uncle and also talkin’ to the social worker about him. He has signed the papers to admit himself and his social security is goin’ there now. YAY! My next to oldest brother and I will attend a care plan meetin’ tomorrow and we are startin’ the work for him to be POA as he lives here. Mom is not doin’ well but then again as well as can be expected. Yestiddy was a good day but today she has spent most of the day asleep.
I read but retained little, so yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins, smooches, how you doin’s all around as needed.
Home, trying to decide what supper should be. I don’t want to cook - wonder if I can convince my sweetie to go somewhere. Except I don’t know where I’d want to go. Why can’t food just magically appear without any effort on my part? I need one of them Star Trek Foodinators.
poa? **SunnyB] Thing is we sell stuff year round (tickets). On the last day of the month at the close of business before any new sales take place I have to do inventory on my physical tickets. If the first falls on a Sunday when we are closed i have to count it before we conduct any business the next day. No problem there. 90% of what we sell is consignment tickets meaning we don’t pay until we sell it and we only pay once per month.
The new girl is just being a pain in the ass as I have most vendors set up to just pay on sales but the biggest three send invoices. I don’t even receive those invoices sometimes until the middle of the month. This is the government so their stupid little rules do not or cannot be done especially for those big three. I have managed to get out most of the ones that are paid on sales into a fed ex box that will land on her desk in Jacksonville tomorrow. The rest she will get when she gets them. And yes, after the accreditation visit I intend to take some time off as I am beginning to have a shitty attitude. It has been a long hard season.
And with all that boring stuff I think I will call it a day. So, off for my hour long commute which is also starting to be no fun. I mean how many times can one look left to see the Gulf of Mexico and right to see the Atlantic Ocean and vice versa? One good thing about today is I have my snoring little dog with me.
Swampy Is that the first time you looked under the skirt?
Feel better all you sickies. I think I shall go finish that bottle of wine I opened last night.
