I applied for a license to handle non-shelf stable foods in July.
Was told after my check cleared I would have a temporary license lasting 90days or until a health inspector had done his thing.
Today (Dec 22) about 180 days after my temporary license was issued, I had a restaurant health inspector come in and ask to see my license.
I explained what had happened, my temp license had expired and was waiting on them (30 restaurants in the county, 3 health inspectors and they can’t get to it…)
I am not familiar with the license you described, but if the health inspector did not issue a citation or warning on the spot, I wouldn’t be too worried. What did he say when he left?
Was told? I hope that’s written down somewhere. In any case, if a penalty is to be issued, it’s most likely a fine.
Maybe nothing, maybe a fine, maybe they shut you down. Each state and some localities have their own regulations. I’d guess little or nothing will happen if he didn’t find a problem in your store.
Depending upon your location you may be able to apply for a food handler’s license on line. Check it out. If you can’t get one by taking the test on line then the second best option is to go to whatever class you need to take and get recertified.
You might still get fined but a pro-active approach to getting your expired permit validated will help. It may eliminate or reduce the fine once you can show that you are in compliance.
90 days OR until a health inspector does their thing. This means (to me anyway) that after the arbitrary 90 day standard, you still are not in violation until the health inspector makes their first contact. The 90 day standard should be dropped and it should read that the temporary license is valid until the health inspector makes contact.
IMHO, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
