I just watched episodes 1 through 5. For those concerned about the nudity, there isn’t much after the first episode. And what sex there is is implied and not explicit.
I like it so far.

Her natural hair color is apparently a medium brown. You can see her in this music video which she made two years before That 70’s Show when she was 15 (Prepon is the girl in the pink top - here’s a screenshot).
I enjoyed the show, but I beg to differ.
The dim-witted, evil Christian caricatures become increasingly significant.
I’ve watched the whole thing. Netflix does this “nasty” thing where just as the credits start to roll, it cues up the next episode so just as you’re about to get up and do something productive, you think, “eh just one more episode”
I actually quite enjoyed it but I’m starting to have my doubts about Netflix’s delivery system of dumping the whole season online at once (can’t wait for S2 of House of Cards). At least when you watch a regular series on terrestrial television, it doesn’t feel like it will be so long until it starts up again than when you watch all 13 episodes in one go.
The nudity doesn’t seem like a big thing. It’s in your face for sure but it’s limited to just a few characters so it’s not like sorority girls gone wild.
Too bad they couldn’t have gotten a more attractive actress.
I don’t think they’re just caricatures. They have their doubts, their own life stories, and their own shifting relationships with others.
I’m nine episodes in now. I’ve only noticed one dim-witted Christian, and that has more to do with the fact that she’s a meth head rather than a Christian.
Plus, there is an older woman with red hair who is Christian, and she doesn’t seem dim-witted.
There are also a lot of Christians who don’t make a big deal of it like the meth head does. Red is a smart Christian, but she never mentions her religion.
I binged all 13 episodes. It was good. Not fantastic but good. By the 6 or 7th episode, it certainly feel a little unbelievable.
The complete lack of control from the prison staff annoys me. There’s no way prisoners just march into the head CO’s office to demand the tv remote…
My guy friend and I are watching this, we only have 2 episodes left having watched it all weekend. It was 1:30 last night and I had to be up in the morning, otherwise we would have finished it off.
I think it’s really quite good. A lot stretches the imagination, like how freely people move about the prison and even a scene where a prisoner is sent to repair an appliance and has a full toolbelt on full of potentially deadly weapons. I could see if it were a minimum security white collar crime prison but it’s not so it stretches belief quite a bit.
The storylines are good- my heart breaks for the characters and the funny parts are funny enough. I’ll look forward to season 2, but I agree with above; I wish they did 1 episode at a time instead of the whole season in a shot. I have no self control so now its all over instead of having something cool to watch all summer (besides Dexter).
Holy Crap! What the hell happened to Kate Mulgrew?!
Looks like she went the way of Kirstie Alley.
I was very impressed by her acting in this program.
She is much more believable and authentic-seeming as Red in Orange is the New Black than in her role as Janeway in Star Trek.
I’ve now finished watching all 13 episodes. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very much looking forward to the next season.
I know it’s ridiculous, not to mention unrealistic, but I want Dia and John to find a way to be together in the end.I want Mendes to be brought down, permanently, by Red.I want Red to get her kitchen back, even though I really like the Spanish ladies.I want Pennsatucky to live, but be permanently cowed enough to keep her religious nonsense to herself.I have a suspicion that the woman prison administrator will end up an inmate in the prison. They more or less knocked us over the head with the not so subtle hint of her embezzling funds.I don’t know how I feel about Chapman at this point. I kind of felt sorry for her in the early episodes, but now she not only seems to want to have her cake and eat it too, but is genuinely confused and upset when others consider this inexcusably selfish, like a child.
Yeah, Chapman’s not really so nice. She’s not terrible, but she is pretty selfish. Yoga Jones and the nun are better people than she is. The revelation of Piper’s character and the changes in how she sees herself are pretty interesting.
8 episodes in. I turned on Netflix on Saturday afternoon, saw it on the homepage and gave it try. I’m really enjoying it so far.
I guess I just like the cable series’ much better because of how much farther they can go with plot lines, language, etc etc than regular network shows.
Orange is the new black? Meh. Go to Princeton - you can have both: http://www.pustore.com/TiesBeltsSocks/Brooks-Brothers---Princeton-University-Guard-Stripe-Tie/PAMOACOKGEFDMGJI/3458-3690/Product
I like it. I up to the 6th episode now, and it’s really good.
I like the homemade Scrabble board.
We’re four episodes in and I’m still pretty ambivalent. It seems more like a glib TV fantasy of prison life than anything approaching realism, even though it’s based on a memoir. I think I would’ve guessed that Jenji Kohan was involved even if I didn’t know beforehand, because it’s got a lot of the credulity-straining qualities of Weeds, especially in its later, sillier seasons. And I also think many of the characters seem one-dimensional, more like stock stereotypes than fully fleshed out.
It doesn’t help that I recently listened to a monologue by the author on The Moth Podcast and was put off by her pretentious enunciation. She really does sound like a self-involved, snobby WASP.
That said, I’m sure I’ll end up watching the rest of the episodes, and hope it gets better.
The crazy redhead totally steals the show. She’s hysterical.
Did I miss where they explained Pennsatucky name? It isn’t her last or first name, last name it Doggett. It appears to be a combination of Pennsylvaina and Kentucky but I don’t know why she would go by that.
I’m on episode 9 or 10. I quite like it. I’ll watch the next season, for sure.
