Doubt it…there was the whole “effective level” caveat to his powers at the time.

V did not get much XP for killing the dragons-- her effective character level was equal to the sum of her own levels plus those of the three Soul Spliced mages. If V is level 12-15, as others have speculated, and each of those mages was at least 20, her effective character level would have been at least 75, and possibly well over 100. At that point, it’s nigh on impossible to get any experience, even for killing hundreds of dragons.

As to Zz’dtri, it’s hard to say. Certainly Nale is a personal rival for Elan, so it’s plausible but not necessary. Besides, V hasn’t leveled more than two or three times since the beginning of the comic-- no one has. Zz’dtri could easily have kept up or exceeded that, even without being a personal rival.

Just noticed something that might be significant.

When Nale talks about Tarquin he says, “He’s a shortsighted fool, content to live out his dwindling day in luxury rather than seize true power.”

His dwindling day? That’s an unusual term. And it appears from the spacing in the balloon, that it might have originally been the normal expression ‘his dwindling days’.

Maybe it’s just a typo. But maybe it means something. Maybe Nale has reason to think that Tarquin’s life expectancy is down to a single day.
