Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

That number of magnets is really going to screw with the postal services scanners. It might aslo be the thing that causes our fridge to finally tip over from the weight of stuff on the door.
Worth it, totally.

OK, I’ll admit I was wrong - happily, in fact. I must have underestimated the impact the ongoing addition of new packages was going to have.

Can’t wait to see how high this thing goes in the next two days!

Prediction:

I think Elan really *is *part halfling.

I’ve long expected that Elan is related somehow to the Draketooth clan. That tuft of hair is a family trait in both Elan’s family and Girards. Possibly Girard is Elan’s Grandfather.

Sereni is obviously attractedto Girard, and we know they kept in touch after the Scribbles broke up. At minimum he considers her a close friend.

I predict, therefore that Sereni is Elan’s grandmother.

:D:D

Maybe, but…

hasn’t the Elan’s family thing been done enough?

Foggy reported this post himself because he realized it technically violated our rule on altering text inside the quote boxes. I’ve removed the link. Thank you for your conscientiousness.

Isn’t Freshmouth’s enslaved existence an invitation for the first group the OOTS encounters to cast Dispel Magic on him, then he flanks & attacks the OOTS in the middle of the fight? Or at least flies away from the battle on that carpet with Mr Scruffy? Or does Domination not work that way?

It looks like Protection From Evil could prevent V from using Freshmouth but it wouldn’t end the spell and Dispel Magic could end it if the caster’s caster level (capped at 10) + a d20 roll is greater than V’s caster level +11. But I don’t play D’n’D so I don’t know.

Way to go, Foggy!

This is the classiest board on the Internet, bar none.

It does work that way, but such a spell doesn’t automatically succeed. V’s at least level 15, so at best, Dispel Magic only has a 25% chance of success. Greater Dispel Magic has a 75% chance of success at best, but only if cast by a level 20 spellcaster.

Well, we should definitely worry if there’s a only a one-in-a-million chance, right?

Nitpick: Only if cast with a caster level of 20. Yes, I know that sounds like a meaningless distinction, but it’s not: There are a number of ways for a character’s caster level (which determines the potency and effectiveness of that caster’s spells) to be higher (or occasionally, lower) than the caster’s actual level.

Yes. This looks like Rick has this in mind, and now because you and I and another poster mentioned it… well it looks well-nigh inevitable.

Maybe this is how Belkar meets his demise.

Maybe I am a bit sentimental, but the halfling ranger has become something of a hero to me. Especially his attachment to Mr. Scruffy. When he dies, as foredoomed earlier, I will be unhappy.

Maybe he can be resurrected like Roy was, but the high DM might want him gone forever.

Even though he provides an amazing amount of comedic relief.

Nah… Berlew is not an idiot. Very far from it. This is the most entertaining webcomic I have ever seen.

What if he goes up a level?

Interesting that V can dispel Girard’s magic…

Given Girard’s level of paranoia, I wouldn’t put it past him to use weak spells as part of his decoy.

Maybe Belkar will die and Yukyuk actually will become the sixth member of the Order of the Stick. That would surprise people.

Freshmouth… really?

Well shut my mouth!

heh heh heh

One of the Oracle’s prophecies concerning him was that he would draw his last breath-- ever-- before the end of the year. Another was that he’s not long for this world. Rich really has tried to make this as unambiguous as possible: Belkar is going to be really dead, really not coming back, just plain gone.

But wouldn’t it be funny of Belkar were Reincarnated as a female?
