How did MitD know that was only half of a ritual? Is this some sort of confirmation that he’s a god?
Some surprisingly on-target insight from our favorite mysterious creature. “I don’t think Xykon has any love to earn.” It looks like O-Chul’s influence has already opened his eyes fairly wide.
So, will Tsukiko keep her promise, and will her spell end up helping the good guys or the bad guys? Also, of course, what spell does Xykon have her working on?
The Redcloak Keep Out sign on Tsukiko’s door is a nice detail.
Who knows, with the Monster involved? He/she/it is the strip’s biggest wild card.
How does the strip title apply here?
Last panel, referring both to the head and the wight (who used to be one of Haley’s rebel paladins).
Is that Redcloak? I thought it was a hobgoblin, telling the lowly canon fodder to keep out. Seems risky to say something like that to Redcloak…
ETA: Oh, and another nice detail is the little Xykon doll on her pillow.
I just assumed he had her researching the ritual to warp a Gate so she can take over for Redcloak, either out of necessity or out of typical Xykon-style treachery. But now I’m questioning the assumption.
Yes, but we have seen the doll before.
Actually, now you mention it, you’re right. The face on the keep out sign is orange, but Redcloak is green-skinned. It’s a generic hobgoblin, not Redcloak.
I suspect it’s merely confirmation that the MitD is some kind of natural spellcaster. It’s definitely another hint being dropped as to what the MitD is, though.
Don’t have time to check now, but although that wight used to be a rebel, I don’t think he used to be a paladin. I think Thanh was their only paladin.
The monster’s plenty smart. He picked up Go quickly enough, after all. He’s just naive, lonely, and out of his element.
MITD: “Aww, man! That game is hard!”
O-Chul: “True, but you are learning it quickly. Very quickly.”
I think it’s pretty clear in the strip that Isamu (that was that guy’s name) was something with Hide and Move Silently as class skills, presumably rogue.

The last panel is priceless.
Whilst I think on, should we reconvene in a Book 6 thread?
Whenever Redcloak looks into the mirror, he sees his brother’s face. That’s… incredibly sad.
Where did all the green skinned goblins come from? I thought they all died in Dorokun’s(sp) dungeon.
And he’s still trying to convince himself that it’s all going to work out for the best in the end. It’s a point – he’s been avoiding facing what happened with his brother all this time (well, at least I’m assuming so), but now he gets a direct reminder of his brother every time he catches a look at his reflection. Xykon’s decision to force Redcloak to carry around that injury may not be the smartest move he’s ever made, once the story’s all told.
Soooooo, what’s the big announcement? I’m guessing the Phylactery has been found and it’s time to mobilize, but maybe not?
And it’s nice to see a good pull finally get the recognition it deserves.
Only if you want to wait a year and a half before we talk about it. The thread is “Book 5 Discussion” because we’re currently in the fifth OotS book (okay, seventh if we count books 0 and -1), not because this is the fifth thread. The last one went for forty-two pages and six months so I think we’re safe sticking with this one.
n/m I thought we had moved on a book since this thread started. Must have lost the plot somewhere!
