Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

The books are totally worth the coin - especially the prequel books.

Doesn’t matter if they are worth it if you don’t have the coin to begin with and apparently neither does the SF library. I would love to be able to read the prequels. :frowning:

Yeah, there is that. I’m missing No Cure For the Paladin Blues and Don’t Split the Party from my collection and I just can’t find the ready cash right now to add them.

Quite the pickle - food, or books of strips I’ve already read (mostly).

Yep, same here… don’t have the scratch right now, but when I do I’ll be buying them.

I love Malack telling Durkula to use his inside voice.

New comic is up. The last line:

Hurting people is the only thing I’m good at.

might be one of the best bits of writing I’ve seen out of the comic.

I never thought I’d see the day when Belkar would be the glue that holds the team together. Astonishing.

The boy’s gone Neutral, I tell you. Neutral!

It seems so. He’s still a badass, but clearly not as much a “heartless little bastard” as he described himself, not anymore.

Which means, of course, that his death is truly imminent.

[Neutral]

If I don’t survive, tell my wife “Hello.”

[/Neutral]

Sad, but likely.

Well, yes, in his current condition a sudden attack from a damp sponge would probably finish Belkar.

Roy’s being an uncharacteristic prick, telling Elan he doesn’t count as a spellcaster and all. I think the pressure finally got to him.

Did anyone else notice Rich using far more… colorful language in this strip than the previous ones?

Repressed anger over the thumb incident.

He’s done that before, though, during moments of intense drama like this. Like Xykon saying “If I ever see you with more eyes than assholes, I’m going to shove one in the other” in this strip near the end of the last book.

You know what is going to happen in the next few strips, don’t you?

Cliffhanger. Belkar will die, Durkon will be wherever with Malack, V will still be AWOL, and the remaining members of the Order will be beset with enemies on all sides. Things will look hopeless.

Hiatus.

If this turns out to be true, I am so going to hunt you down, poke you with sharp sticks, scoop out your eyeballs with ice cream scoops, boil your entrails, feed the entrails soup to the research amoebas, and mount your eyeless head on a stake as a warning to others.

Either that, or grumble a bit, probably publicly.

We’ll see!

Glad to see that you’re not taking it personally! :stuck_out_tongue:

For the first time since the Oracle’s prophecy, I am actually a little disappointed that Belkar will snuff it at some point in the near-future.

Yeah, he’s grown to be the most interesting character in the OOTS.

I could say that for Durkon, too; his last moments were when he shined most as a character, at least in a long time.
