Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

I like Reality Check Belkar. Any chance Elan will remember he can cast at least some level of healing spell and de-dizzy our favorite sexy shoeless god of war?

Puhlease. It’s not like either one of them isn’t going to be in on The Final Confrontation, in some way or another. Bet on it. I can see Belkar figuring out some way of fucking with the Fiends right when they think they’ve got V in place, taking advantage of the Soul Splice payment. If for no other reason than it would really piss off V.

Also, he’s technically a cleric. Maybe if V comes back in time Belkar can give hmr a reality check pep-talk, V will cast a spell of Epic Believing-In-Stuff on the party, and they can use the last of the diamond dust on resurrecting Durkon.

I think there’s an element of foreshadowing here.

Roy feels guilty about leading Durkon to his death but that was an unexpected event. I think part of the reason Roy is reacting so strongly is because he subconsciously feels guilty about somebody else: Belkar.

In this strip the angel mentions that Roy is responsible for Belkar as his commander. And in the next strip she talks about how Roy uses unlawful means to achieve lawful goals.

And in these strips, Roy talks about how the kobold is being used in a cause it didn’t agree to - with a clear parallel to Belkar.

There’s also the parallel of Shojo and how he was working on a good cause but justified lying to his followers to do it.

Roy knows Belkar is going to die. But he hasn’t passed this on to Belkar. He’s basically just getting all the use he can out of Belkar before he dies. Being as Belkar is following Roy, Roy is essentially knowingly leading Belkar to his death. And at some level, Roy has to know that is wrong.

A cleric, huh? Hmmm … well, I guess it’s true that “Banjo” once referred to him as “my prophet.” I wonder if that automatically grants him clericular powers…

I wonder if at some point we are granted a deus ex puppet. At least something more than a static shock upside Roy’s head.

You know, last we heard, that entire orc tribe still worshiped Giggles the Clown…

Durkon as we knew him is dead.

Yep, he’s now aware that this is his skill…and that maybe, just maybe, it’s not the best skill to have. I think he’s wrong, though…he’s learned to care for Mr. Scruffy.

Betcha he gets better.

Silenus, I hope you are right but I would have to bet against it this time.

Not before he has chance to bring “death and destruction” to the dwarven homelands.

He can fix hit point loss, but there’s nothing he can do about the CON drain.

I got a shiny nickel that says he doesn’t.

Yeah, but he might just bring it with him, in the form of Xykon and Redcloak fighting them for control of Kraagor’s Gate. Maybe the Order will kill him and haul his body back to his homeland for burial while they’re heading for the Ultimate Showdown.

It had honestly never occurred to me that the location of Kraagor’s Gate is, in all likelihood, relatively near the dwarven homelands. Even though both locations have been canonically established as bitterly cold.

And 882 is up!

Interesting bit of foreshadowing here…

Tarquin is genre savvy, for sure, and now we know for certain about who Nale killed from Malack’s “family.”

Is that a coiled whip on Tarquin’s hip?

Yup
