Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

Haley does have prior experience leaving the frame.

I always get a feeling of trepidation when I go to post in this thread after it’s been stagnant for a few days. I’m afraid people will hate me for raising their hopes for a new update.

This is not about a new update (surprise, surprise). It’s about the fact that the Giant in the Playground site is down, and has been since yesterday evening, at least. Is there any place where information about this state of affairs can be obtained?

You people waiting for Kickstarter goodies: do you have an email address you can use to inquire about this?

Rich is pretty active on Twitter. That’s probably the best place to go for updates outside of the site itself.

Is it just me or is GITP down? ETA: nm, I see Rich tweeted about it.

Thanks very much.

Twitter, huh? Maybe I’ll look into that.

I’m not the boss of you, but bookmark this link.

Or just learn the short version: http://isup.me/

From yesterday’s Kickstarter update: P.S. Apparently, someone has launched a DDoS attack against GiantITP.com for who-knows-what reason. I had to put these images on another server just to send this. I have no idea when it will be back, but I’ll try to update via my Twitter when I can. But it does mean that the email address listed above may be offline for a while. Twitter. No news yet. Server is still down, IT folks are working on it. I can confirm that there has been yelling.

Just in:

I wonder who did it and why?

Questionable Content was targeted last month with a DDoS and was down for several days from it. Maybe someone just has it in for webcomics sites?

Probably just a matter of them being good targets. A big commercial site like Google or Amazon is going to have staff protecting it from vandals. A webcomic is usually a comparatively small-time operation. But at the same time, a popular webcomic will have a lot of people visiting it every day. No point in hacking a site that only gets a hundred hits a day.

Also Amazon is nigh-invincible against this kind of attack. It’s been tried, but they have so much overcapacity to deal with the Christmas rush that no DDoS attack has managed to have a noticeable effect.

I wonder if these are proof-of-ability attacks? That is, they hit one of these smaller sites to confirm that their bot army is working before hitting a larger site?

Temporary website is up. With new comic.

Anyone want to try guessing what the strip’s title is?

About damn time he showed up.

Don’t know about the title, but here is a link!

Love the temporary website in crayon. “News”, “Comics”, “Old stuff no one reads”, and “Forums (j/k)”! Pretty hilarious.
About the actual comic… Oh shit. Things are NOT looking up.

Dun Dun DUN!

And that last panel is what Roy having heart failure looks like.
