It’s a compliment that couldn’t have been better designed to piss Tarquin off.
According to the d20srd, Tarquin was struck by the orange beam, which should inflict 40 points of acid damage (Laurin got 20 pts fire and Miron got 80 pts lightning). Prismatic Spray :: d20srd.org
ETA: it just occurred to me that you probably knew that already. I was wondering about Tarquin’s lack of reaction as well. Perhaps we just didn’t notice due to the subtle nature of acid damage (compared to fire and lightning). Or perhaps Tarquin is packing protection against acid. He does seem to be generally well prepared.
Damning with praise then, however faint?
So could V revert the Baleful Polymorph, then the Allosaur eats Tarquin? Gulp!
The dino was plane shifted away, anyone’s guess where. Tarq could not have been hit by four rays as the result that allows multi-hits doesn’t allow for a second multi-hit result (and even if it did, the odds would be long).
I have to admit, I get a little giddy whenever Elan has a chance to be useful. He’s always been my favorite character.
Are you sure it wasn’t Miron that got plane-shifted? After all, the dinosaur’s just thrown the lot of them and could be just off-panel to the right.
Anyway, it looks like Tarquin’s lost his helm and cape to the acid.
Belay that, it’s Miron that’s been struck by the yellow ray, not Roy.
Nah, Tarquin still has his cape in the last panel. I think the helmet just fell off for dramatic reasons, and wasn’t simply melted by the acid.
I could see Miron and Laurin being in bad shape - they don’t have a ton of hit points.
Laurin only took 10 or 20 points of damage, so she’s fine. Miron took 40 or 80 before resistances, but the spells we’ve seen him cast so far (Greater Dispel Magic and Baleful Polymorph) are on both the Wizard/Sorcerer list and the Druid list, so he might be tougher than he looks.
What about that shielding spell he had up earlier?
We don’t know it’s a spell. It might be a magic item.
I will boldly predict that Tarquin’s next shot will be targeting Elan, not Roy or Belkar. My record for predicting plot points in this web comic has been poor, though.
Nah, Tarquin’s even more pissed at Roy now, especially after Elan’s “What now, Roy?” Also, Roy is likely down to his last couple of hit points, what with the fighting the army, getting knocked off an allosaurus and then gored by a triceratops. Have to figure Tarquin as going for the coup de grace.
Probably not helpful in this situation. Whatever spell it is (I’m thinking a simple shield spell) it likely only gives a bonus to AC, and prismatic spray (like most spells) largely ignores AC.
Which is hilarious because it will make Tarquin himself as much of an obstacle as Roy.
I think that was in response to the implication that Miron might be a druid–the shielding spell provides some evidence against that possibility.
Over on the OOTS forums, the most popular explanation for Tarquin being unarmed seems to be that he has evasion or some similar ability.
That’s certainly what it looked like he was doing when he avoided the prismatic spray. But why would that leave him unarmed?
Oops, I guess I did type “unarmed”, there. Insert an H wherever you think most appropriate.
