Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

Tarquin: “I can always sire another son, and raise him up right this time.”

Yeah, Tarquin wants to see his son be the main hero but I can’t see his personality allowing himself to be extorted into doing otherwise.

He’s getting on in years, and if Elan isn’t the hero who takes him out someone else could come along and do it before a new child grows up.

See, back in the day, you could get around that with liberal applications of Haste spells

I just had an image of Roy’s Bag of Tricks, but with dinosaurs instead of little furry creatures.

Damnit, false update hope!

Nobody should post in this thread until there is a new strip.

Crap.

Or V could hit it with another Polymorph spell (Baleful or otherwise) since you can’t have more than one shapechange spell going on at the same time, the new one overrides the old.
Or just powerlevel the allosaur until it’s a level 5 Druid and can shapechange itself into a wolf then back into an allosaur, but that might take a tad longer

Just make it the nemesis of a different level 1 human and then power level them

Yeah! I hate when people do that!

Does a temporary polymorph overwrite a permanent polymorph?

Temporarily.

However, what it does not do is restore the original form of the transformed creature; it makes the creature an average specimen of the species (physically). So, for example, using Baleful Polymorph to turn Haley into a sheep, then Polymorphing her into a human would result in a Haley with average Dex - 10 or 11 - rather than the 20+ she has in her normal form. And her magic items would be gone too.

That Allosaur is likely to be advanced - more HD, better stats. All those would be gone.

Man, I hear that! Seriously, what is up with some people?

Nope, Baleful Polymorph already takes care of that. Quoth the SRD :

Of course, the way magic items work in D&D, Sheep Haley could re-equip most of them (or at least, someone could re-equip her with them) and they’d stretch to fit her ovine form :). No armour, weapons, rings and probably boots/gloves (though as a DM I’d rule those as a grey area) but belts, amulets, brooches, bracers, headbands, capes… are all fine.
Wanna see a sheep in a cape now, BTW.

As for the Polymorph buff, it’s supposed to work like Alter Self, which says :

And since any of Haley’s items worn by Sheep Haley can most definitely be worn by Average Human Haley, she’s fine on that front.

ETA : oh, and as an aside, I am SO GLAD they entirely changed the way shape changing works in Pathfinder

Woo! It updated!

Elan’s being useful!

From that last panel, though, I’ve got a feeling Tarquin dies (along with Belkar and (maybe) Roy) before the end of this book. :frowning:

It would be ironic indeed is Belkar died right now and his final words were a sincere compliment.

Sincere compliment? Try damning with faint praise.

Might as well put in the link.

So what happened?

Dino- teleported away
Miron- heavy Elec damage
Laurin- minor fire damage
Tarquin? He seems to have been hit by 4 rays, however none seem to have damaged him?

Didn’t seem that faint. How often does Belkar compliment anyone, ever? That he did it this time makes it pretty positive.
