Finish him!
The store is down for some reason. As the graphic reminds us, it could be anything.
New One.
Also an announcement. Hat tip to Rich. http://www.giantitp.com/
It’s up now.
So…what did Haley do? Threaten? Gamble with? Gambol with?
It probably went something like this.
I figured it was more like this.
Haley must have a bazillion points in “Dealing with car salesmen.”
Does Haley still have her giant loot stash that was supposed to go towards her father’s release? Could she have parted with a significant portion of it to save the mission and/or Bandana’s captainship? That wouldn’t have to be to the exclusion of haggling, of course.
Haley had already offered to chip in a chunk of loot when discussing ship’s repairs in a previous strip. I think this was straight-up rogue haggle-skill.
OK, any bets on what’s going to go wrong? With an affordable price and “ready first thing tomorrow”, they should be out of Tinkertown in another strip or two. But there’s no way we’d have spent a whole page on setting the scene if that was all the longer we were going to spend there. So clearly, either something is going to go wrong enough to delay their departure, or something so big is going to happen overnight that it’s going to take a bunch of strips to deal with it.
The latter, I’d guess. Rich spent 2+ years on a single day in the desert, so a lot can happen in a single evening in Tinker Town. And he just spent an entire strip on an elaborate panorama of the place, so I’d think we’ll see a bit more of it before they leave.
I guessed haggling. We knew that the gnomes charged high prices. The idea that jury rigging would have to be dismantled carefully to avoid explosions sounded… convenient. Also, the gnomes were going to lose the whole contract anyway. A rouge should be able to spot a ripoff artist via occupational similarities, which is a helpful starting point.
Of course a bazillion points in bluff helps too.
Indeed, Haley makes quite the diplomancer, despite also being quite the death machine when she wants to me. I wonder how min-maxed her character is (probably the only one of the bunch that actually pays attention to that stuff).
Four passes to brunch?
Well, I suppose Durkon doesn’t need one. That means someone in the Order will be out of luck.
Edit - Actually, I think V would prefer the discount coupon to pancakes.
Freudian much? ![]()
I can neither confirm nor deny that I totally have a thing for athletic, intelligent redheads.
Brunch? It’s a meal that nobody is sure about. Is it breakfast or lunch?
So I’m going on record and predicting that brunch is Vaarsuvius’ favorite meal.
Rogues are one of the few classes (outside of NPCs) for whom Appraise is a class skill. Incidentally, smart Rogues have a gazillion skill points per level, so once you’ve covered the essentials (acrobatics, perception, disable device, bluff, hide, move silently) you’re still sitting on more leftover skill points than a Cleric will see in their entire lifetime :).
Some Rogues plow them into Knowledge skills (backstabbing with the correct dagger, for the use of), others go for the athletics (climb, swim, escape artist, ride, fly…), but the really **wealthy **rogues go for Appraise + Craft (EVERYGODDAMNTHING) so they can know the price of every last thingamabob ever dreamed up, created, found, materialized or otherwise generated down to the ha’copper piece.
Then they roll Bluff to add a couple zeroes to that number, or substract from depending on context :D.
Is that a quote? It’s ringing a bell, but I can’t quite place it.
