Order of the Stick General Discussion Thread (Open Spoilers and Speculation)

Every spellcaster seems to have their own color for magical effects (or even, in Tsukiko’s case, two colors, depending on whether it’s arcane or divine). I don’t think we’ve seen pink from anyone but V. It may be true that most magic in the series is pink, but that’s just because most magic in the series is from V.

# 639 is up

Wow . . . that’s nasty.

Well… At least the rabbit’s safe!

But really, damn, that’s dark…

Top stuff. I particularly love the dumpy dragon in armour, standing on its hind legs.

Erfworld is ace today, too. A bumper morning in the feed reader.

To be honest, I thought that was a half dragon. A very draconic-looking half-dragon.

There was another a bit later (the dragon-headed centaur).

And a dragon in wizard robes in a magic circle. I think those three were some variety of half dragons.

I’m guessing this is where Vaarsuvius learns the soon-to-be-classic lesson: “Don’t indiscriminately kill off all living relatives of a dragon, in a campaign world where dragons and humanoids are capable of interbreeding.”

With the lessons about deals with devils shortly afterwards. Hmmm borrowing power by soul linking to an experienced evil magic user. V has gone Raistlin on us.

Don’t sorcerors of all races in D&D have their magical abilities as a result of draconic blood somewhere in their ancestral line? I wonder how many elven or human sorcerors V just murdered?

V-standantilus!

I’m just fascinated by the parallels between V’s character arc and Belkar’s. Both of them underwent major chnages, both for the worng reasons, with radically different results - V becoming a monster for altruistic reasons, while Belkar becoming a hero for selfish ones (and both being manipulated by outsiders).

I foresee a confrontation between the two, with the party - particularly Haley, V’s closest friend - taking Belkar’s side.

That was amazing! Dark, yes, but so … twistedly logical.

My favourite was the XXes in the otherwise black panel. There is no hiding from a pissed-off overpowered Elf, apparently.

How many XPs does one get from killing off an extended dragon family?

Yeah, I’m going to have think that’s going to have just a slight ripple effect.

Damnit…if only I hadn’t had to drop my daughter off at day care, I’d have beaten you to that joke.

In V’s case, probably none – it’s not his spellcasting that did the job.

It’ll be minimal. If I was the GM I’d give a story award but XP is awarded based on what the player overcomes. Vaarsuvius beat one dragon and then cast a spell, s/he wouldn’t collect on the XP for killing each dragon.

Besides V’s effective level is so high that the dragons aren’t a threat.

Adding to this, did V make black dragons extinct? Any guesses if there another family line of them? And I’m positive that there’s a grandmother who we’ve seen a couple of times in the strip that even an epic level spell wouldn’t touch. I suspect something very ugly will be waiting for V when they head toward Gerrard’s gate…

Descendants of fiends or celestials (probably fey, too) can also become sorcerers, but draconic blood is usually considered the default.

So…what are the odds that V’s mate has draconic lineage? And did we establish that the children are actually theirs biologically and not adopted? Because it’s entirely possible that V is about to lose much, much more than he bargained for.

It was mentioned that the children ARE adopted . . . uh oh.

I was wondering about that - the spell is “called” Familicide, but who knows if that’s accurate in the way we or V might expect. V’s buddy might have misrepresented it just for the chance to commit genocide/xenocide/whatever is appropriate. Edit: Alternately, V might know but not really care right now.

Now hold on… the whole adoption thing is just so we don’t assume that V and his/her spouse are of opposite sexes. I wouldn’t read anything more into it.
